Jonesboro two-way star Cameron Sutton is being recruited to play DB by Georgia Tech (AJC)

Georgia Tech will entertain some of Atlanta’s top football prospects for its spring game on Friday night.

Some of the recruiting targets expected to be in attendance:

  • RB Travis Custis, Lovejoy: He was Georgia Tech’s first commitment for 2013.
  • OL Shamire Devine, Tri-Cities: Many are predicting it will come down to Georgia Tech and UGA for the 6-foot-7, 331-pounder.
  • DT Jay Woods, Jackson: He has been one of the hottest prospects in the state during the spring period.
  • QB Juwaan Williams, Tucker: The state championship QB has Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt as his co-leaders, and he visited Florida State last weekend.
  • DE Naim Mustafaa, Alpharetta: The Georgia Tech legacy has the Yellow Jackets, Auburn and Tennessee as his top three.
  • WR-DB Brandon Faycson, Northgate: He also has Georgia Tech among his leaders.
  • DE Davin Bellamy, Chamblee: He originally was scheduled to be out of town but will make it on Friday. Georgia Tech was the first offer for the basketball-turned-football star.
  • RB Kamani Thomas, East Paulding: Thomas has a Vanderbilt offer and is being evaluated by Georgia Tech. He will be there with his teammates, LB-S Lorenzo Suttles.

Some other Georgia Tech targets wanted to attend but can’t make it due to various reasons: Carver-Atlanta OL Delando Crooks has a camp on early Saturday and Westminster kicker Harrison Butker has a Friday soccer game.

Tri-Cities offensive lineman Jeremi Hall, who nearly committed to Georgia Tech on his last visit, will be attending the prom on Friday. He has Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt as his leaders and is still holding out hope for an UGA offer.

“The thing I like about Georgia Tech is that they are the school showing me the most love right now,” said Hall, who will likely commit by the end of the spring.

Jonesboro WR-DB Cameron Sutton thinks he has a make-up baseball game on Friday. He has around 10 offers, including Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Missouri and South Carolina.

“Georgia Tech is right down the street from me, and I would be able to have a lot of friends come and go to games,” Sutton said. “Georgia Tech is a great place and located in a great city. The football program is well-coached and they’re always working hard to win.”

Sutton, who has a 3.7 GPA and wants to study Pharmacy, said only Kentucky is recruiting him as a WR and he prefers to play DB in college.

Georgia Tech is project to sign around 15 players for its 2013 recruiting class.

If Hall does get a UGA offer and commits to them expect GT fans to say that they never wanted him in the first place.

Either that or they’ll pretend that they don’t know who he is once signing day comes and goes and it’s clear that they missed one of their targets.

Many of the GT Bloggers are meeting for the game tomorrow. An old AJC writer Matt Winkeljohn is doing a write up about the Tech bloggers that have fun and enjoy the banter on Ken’s GT blog. We Like each other and actually have a few DOG fans that visit and enjoy a glass of JACK and/or Sweet Tea with US GIT fans.

GT gets “wait-listed” by most Recruits while they wait for the “Dream School” to offer them a scholly.

This phenomenon needs to change, for some reason GT has a very poor perception among FB Recruits that are 18 years old and are looking for a College to play for.

For some reason GT doesn’t seem to be very many Recruit’s “first choice” or the school they grew up “in love with”.

At a school that was already hard to recruit to, we have staff (not just the HC), that are mediocre Recruiters at best and in all likelihood poor Recruiters.

One reason it is so hard to Recruit to GT are comments like these by this character:

Smug, elitist, a-hole commentary like that does nothing to help GT’s perception among the working classes of Ga. that tend to produce potential CFB players.

Maybe if GT were only recruiting for Tennis & Golf those types of comments would help, but since we do field FB & B-Ball teams those types of comments do nothing to help GT in the revenue-producing sports.

For a person “smart enough to know”, you sure are dumb!

I missed the reason for the Friday night game so will someone update me as to why? Ga Tech having a tuff time recruiting for sure. Paul does a great job with the talent he can get to Tech but the HS kids just don’t wish to be apart of the Bone. Those in big seats at the AD complex have a tuff decision to make in the near future. Accept what you have (8-4,7-5) or risk going backward in order to move forward. Give Mike Leach a year to prove he can get it done at Wash St and if so then get out the wallet and hire him.

__________

Not at all!

I’m merely saying that the working class folks of Ga. or any other state are tired of GT-type folks telling them how “inferior” they are because they didn’t go GT and take that “Calculus” to verify how smart they are, and then have GT turn around and “play nice” and expect them to want their sons to play for GT and represent GT.

GT (mainly its Alums) needs to do a better job or REPRESENTING the state of Ga. and not poking fun at Ga. Residents & taxpayers.

I never hinted that Working class folks couldn’t produce intelligent SAs, I did say that FB recruits are more likely to come from working class backgrounds.

Fl Jacket,
Ya’ll have been good before, and will again. In fact, you HAVE had good recruits in the past. The cripple option will not allow y’all to get a top-notch Q.B. (you can get a great athlete, but not a great Q.B.) and you have proven you can bring in a good receiver. Truly, a lot of the top tier folks don’t feel like the t.o. is their “ticket”. If Leach or someone of his caliber came in, all the B.S. excuses about everything fom academics to whatever would stop, because suddenly y’all would be winning big!

Vad Lee…good athlete and good passer, 4-star QB. Of course, Justin Thomas, also a 4-star athlete who’s got a pretty decent arm.

As for WR…none of the guys in the NFL recruited AFTER Calvin Johnson were ranked high.

Mike Leach is straight up nuts…not just a little…he’s “lock up a famous man’s kid in an equipment locker” nuts. He’s NOTHING like CPJ, who might be outspoken but at least he’s honest and forthright. He might say something awkward…but it’s certainly not “fat little girlfriends” awkward.

“Mike Leach is the exact same as Paul Johnson, Wet Willie. They just run different systems. I like Leach, but the next time his QB throws the ball down the field will be the first.”

Its a more effective offense against elite defenses than the triple option. Its not like Texas Tech was in the WAC or something. They were putting up big numbers in the Big 12 which has no shortage of talent. Paul Johnson has yet to prove that the triple option can be effective against a great defense. If you are outmanned up front the triple option is a laughing stock. Mike Leach neutralizes it with innovative quick strike passing schemes. As a Georgia fan I can tell you that Mike Leach would scare me a lot more as your coach than Manboobs (Your defense would still be a joke though). Fortunately, the GTAA isn’t really interested in taking it to the next level in football. The fans don’t demand it. Its all about holding on the myth that Tech is some Harvard of the south or a service academy or something. Its as if all those job offers for Tech graduates (of which there are many I must admit) will stop coming if you start getting too good at football. Its laughable.

Watch the coaching search at Arkansas come and go without a single solitary mention of Paul Johnson. That should tell you something about your coach Tech fans.

Thanks.

Q Neally
A Williams
L Young
S Days
J Hunt-Days

Leach ain’t that crazy……the James boy was an entitled little brat according to everyone that knows him. If you read any articlles, he also was a smart*ss, or a dumb*ss, as it were. Anyway, the point is that while I respect all competing programs, the t.o. will hold ya’ll back a little…..lets just see. And we also have our problems, mainly the o-line. Until we take that shortcoming seriously, we will beat the bad teams and lose to the good ones. Our line was definitely exposed last year when we played the good teams. We’re mid-tier ’till we handle that weakness. Y’all with the “cripple” option and us with not a top-notch SEC line; we’ll be meeting here at the end of the season (again) wondering what happened………….unless our up-front men DRASTICALLY and miraculously improve!

UGA has others ahead of Hall. Devine is clearly the better player and has been blowing up all the events he has worked out at.

Vonashek and Kublanow are rated ahead of Hall.

Remains to be seen if UGA will offer Hall with the hopes of luring Devine, who by all indications, prefers Tech.

Untrue, dawgfan. Not that you’ve ever been particularly constrained by facts, but here are the scores of Texas Tech’s games against Oklahoma and Texas, the two teams in the Big XII that were consistently elite during his time there:

2000: L to UT 20-17; L to OU 58-3
2001: L to UT 42-7; L to OU 30-13
2002: W vs UT 42-38; L to OU 60-15
2003: L 43-40; L to OU 56-25
2004: L to UT 51-21; L to OU 28-13
2005: L to UT 52-17; W vs OU 23-21
2006: L 35-31 to UT; L 34-24 to OU
2007: L 59-43 to UT; W vs OU 34-27
2008: W vs UT 39-33; L to OU 65-21
2009: L 34-24 to UT; W 41-13 to OU

Again, we’re in a place where the narrative is more important than the facts. Shocker!

DawginLex…I hope that’s the case as well. Personally I think Delando Crooks is a better, more athletic fit for GT’s O-Line because he can probably play at his same speed once he bulks up to 6′4″ 280-290. Devine and Hall would be terrific, as both have spent lots of time at GT.
