Reggie Wilkerson: Florida DB is commit No. 15 for UGA

UGA picked up commitment No.15 at Saturday’s G-Day.

DB Reggie Wilkerson, a 6-foot, 175-pounder from Citron, Fla., committed to UGA over South Florida and Clemson.

“I picked Georgia because it feels like family,” Wilkerson told the AJC. “I have great chemistry with the coaches and I’ve bonded well with the players.

“It feels like home to me. I feel this is a place where I can come in and compete for the starting job on first day.”

UGA is off to a blistering start for its 2013 recruiting class with 15 commitments, including five players who may get a look at cornerback — Shaq Wiggins, Steven Nelson, JJ Green and Tramel Terry.

Earlier on Saturday, UGA got a commitment from Sandy Creek WR Demarre Kitt, who is a high school sophomore.

UGA commits for 2013

  1. RB Derrick Henry, 6-3, 241, Yulee, Fla.
  2. QB Brice Ramsey, 6-3, 190, Camden County HS
  3. S Tray Matthews, 6-2, 205, Newnan HS
  4. DB Shaq Wiggins, 5-10, 160, Sandy Creek HS

  6. DT Chris Mayes, 6-4, 295, Mississippi Gulf Coast JC (Spalding HS)

Congratulations to Reggie. Great accomplishment. UGA obviously has a new philosophy this year which is to be more aggressive in offering.

It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldawg.

Wilkerson is a 4-star recruit. UGA’s 2013 class is now ranked #2 in the nation by 24/7 Sports.

@Ryan…..

Maybe this depth chart, etc at Florida will tell you why (lots of very talented corners and no seniors on the roster):

Starters:
CB – Marcus Robertson, Soph
CB – Loucheiz Purifoy – Soph
Nickel – Jaylen Watkins – Jr.
Nickel – Cody Riggs – Jr.

Back ups:
CB – Jeremy Brown, Jr. (Out all last year with an injury. Former starter)
CB – Willie Bailey, Fr. (on campus and very impressive in the spring)
CB – Brian Poole, Fr. (5 star recruit arrives this summer)

Commits:
Tre Bell – 4 star

Recruits targeted by Florida
CB – Vernon Hargraves – five star (Florida, Bama, or USC)
CB – McKinzie Alexander – four star (Florida or Bama)

Plus…..this kid plays 30 mintues south of the Florida campus and Florida did not offer. Too small (5′11 and 168 lbs). Too slow (4.50). Florida is focusing on recruiting bigger and faster CBs.

But….the kid is good and could develop into a decent CB in the SEC….but probably will be a backup or nickel type player for Georgia.

Way too early to be talking class rankings. A lot of teams do not have many, few, or no recruits committed yet. That ranking board has no relevance at the moment.

Yes, it’s very early-but the ranking board indicates who’s off to a good start. Dawgs (and Gators) are off to a great start. That’s relevant by any measure.

Reggie ball don’t worry. You were UNDEFEATED against AUBURN when Auburn was a top 10 team. There are NO UGA QBs that can say that if they were born after the Korean War.

Reggie you didn’t need to count to 4. The MORON SEC grad(Auburn) Offensive Coordinator couldn’t count to 4 and make the right play call. He lasted at Miami U for 1 year cause he still couldn’t count.

What is Coach Will Friend doing during this whole process? Only (3) LOI’s last year and only (1) commit on the OL for 2013, c’mon man, what the heck are you doing? If you can’t recruit in GA and the SEC, go back to UAB!! UGA does not need a non-producer @ any position!!! “Win, Baby, Win”!! No more excuses for lack of depth @ any position!!

Why can’t you people just be happy with your own recruits and let Paul Johnson and his staff worry about their own? At the end of the day, GA Tech will fill their scholarship slots with players they have targeted, GA Tech’s coaching staff will be happy, and many UGA fans will continue with your insults.

At the end of the day, these kids have full scholarships at a top university to play division one football and my guess none of you have never played competitive sports and think competition is seeing who can make uglier insults to teenagers.

I congratulate all of the young men, and their families, who have committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs, and hope they have healthy careers and get great educations while on campus.

Sorry dude, just having fun. I like Tech as long as they aren’t playing the Doggies and was in my own way showing concern. I can understand Tech fans being sensitive to outsiders opinions. I will refrain from the condesension and most all negative remarks as best I can. Good Luck this year…

Solid pickup with Wilkerson…my family has been knowing his people since the late ‘70 and this kid is a great player and even better student. Has 3.75 GPA and only need to take 4 classes in the fall to EE. With offers from ND, Stanford and Vandy to go with UGA, USG and Clemson.
TampaGator don’t bash the kid because he waited and hoped for a UF offer. He’s the cousin of FR Latroy Pittman. He’s camp at UF but never ran the 40 so that’s the only reason he didn’t get a UF offer. Had 2000+ on offense last year(RB,WR and QB) w/4 picks. He’s lean and has very good cover skills. Don’t be fooled by ranking he a Top 3 CB in Fl and he’s bigger than VHIII and Mac Alexander both closer to 5′9 than 5′10..NO way this kid should have gotten away. SHAME on Muschamp.

Scouting Report:
I can see Wilkerson debuting as a low four-star for us soon. There were some bigger name CB prospects at the NLA 7v7, but I’m not sure anyone looked better in coverage. Has the length and flexibility coveted at that position. Good ball skills, too; he excelled as a receiver for his team, and his offensive background is evident. Only knock might be top-end speed, but that’s being picky. Really high on him.
My take was that Wilkerson has more than enough speed to be a really good BCS corner. Plays faster than he’s probably timed. But he’s not going to turn and go stride for stride with a legit 4.4 slot WR for 50 yards” -247

UGA taking what they can get. The good news for you guys is no way will Alvin Kamarra(sp) select Bama after today’s A-Day in T-Town. TJ Yeldon is a beast and was the MVP of the game playing against the best team in college footbal. Litte Richie and booboo will have the depth chart ready by sunset showing that no players will get early playing time at Alabama a with with the depth this team has wall to wall and he will be correct. Bama could finish 4th next year (in the NFL that is). Dayum it’s great to be the King…again.

Wet Willie, one more thing. Unless your stadium holds 200,000 (and it doesn’t), the turn out looked sparse this year. Entire upper deck empty, etc. Guess most Bammer fam\ns know this will be a reloading year. Or maybe there was a tractor pull somewhere? :)

Bama had about 75k for their spring game and I think UGA had around 45k in attendance. There shouldn’t be too much stock put into this other than that Bama fans feel more obligated to support their spring game than other schools do. The UGA game was nothing spectacular as expected but they landed two commitments which is what these games are meant to do. Go Dawgs!

Georgia’s commitment total for Saturday’s G-Day festivities reached two with the addition of 2013 athlete/cornerback Reggie Wilkerson of Citra, Fla.

Wilkerson confirmed his commitment to UGA coaches in a text message to Dawgs247.

247Sports rates the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Wilkerson as a four-star and the nation’s No. 236 overall prospect, No. 20 cornerback and No. 30 recruit in Florida for 2013. He chose UGA over a list that included Clemson, South Carolina and Texas A&M, though Florida, Florida State and Miami have yet to offer.

Wilkerson becomes Georgia’s 15th commitment for 2013 and the sixth in the past eight days.

Beating out South Florda and Clemson for a recruit isn’t impressive. I guess CMR needed some backups or fill a roster spot. Not all of the players can be 5 star.
