Commitments are coming in groups and bunches these days for UGA.
JJ Green, a WR-DB-RB from Camden County High School, committed to UGA on Monday.
The 5-foot-9, 178-pounder also had offers from Georgia Tech, Stanford, Duke and Mississippi State. Green was UGA’s second commitment on Monday, following in the footsteps of LB Reggie Carter, who also pledged to the Bulldogs earlier in the day.
On last Friday, three prospects committed to UGA.
For the year, UGA now has 14 commitments for its 2013 recruiting class and could sign around 30 next February. The SEC has a “soft cap” limit of 25 signees per year but early enrollees do not count against the limit.
More on JJ Green: He’s the teammate of another UGA commit, Camden County QB Brice Ramsey, which played in the favor of the Bulldogs. The two are best of friends.
“I’m happy for JJ and certainly not surprised by his decision with Georgia,” Camden County coach Jeff Herron told the AJC. “I think part of it is Brice going there, because they’ve been close for a lot of years. You know, you like to think a kid doesn’t make a decision on where his buddy is going but I think JJ felt comfortable with Georgia because of Brice.
“And JJ liked Georgia because of the other reasons. They’re doing a great job with recruiting him and he was impressed with everything he saw at Georgia.”
Green is being recruited by the Bulldogs as an “athlete” and could play offense or defense in college – or both. His high school coach compares his athleticism and talent to former AJC player of the year Greg Reid, who now stars at Florida State. Green’s uncle is former Florida Gators star wide receiver Jacquez Green.
“JJ is a phenomenal player,” Herron said. “JJ is one of those kids, ever since we’ve been watching him in rec league or middle school … you go to the game and he’s the kid that stands out. He’s always the dominant player.
“He’s very athletic. He plays equally well on offense and defense, as well as being a huge factor in the kicking game. He’s a good kid. He has been raised right. He’s not going to cause problems and do things he’s not supposed to be doing. He’s a very high quality ‘character kid’ and a high quality player as well.”
Green has a 3.0 GPA and has already met NCAA academic requirements. Check out his video at the bottom.
