WR Kyrin Priester commits to UGA over Vanderbilt and TCU

UGA picked up a football commitment from one  of their biggest positions of need on Friday.

Kyrin Priester, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver, picked UGA over scholarship offers from Vanderbilt and TCU. Priester is a Florida native who moved from the Orlando area to Brookwood High School last month.

He is commitment No. 10 for UGA’s 2013 recruiting class.

“I told Coach [Mark Richt] that I wanted to be a Bulldog; he was happy and he gave me a big hug,” Priester told the AJC.

Even though Priester is from Florida, he has always been a big fan of UGA because of AJ Green. He also said the Bulldogs appealed to him because of Christian beliefs of Richt.

“I committed to Georgia because I like Coach Richt being a great Christian because I’m a believer, too,” Priester said. “Also, it was because Georgia needs receivers, I’m a good fit for them and they like me.”

Last year as a junior, Priester missed the first five games with a fractured fibula but returned to catch 31 passes for 565 yards and five touchdowns. Last month, Priester moved with his mother to the Brookwood area. His new coach doesn’t know much about him, but likes what he sees so far.

“He reminds me of Andre Sims, our wide receiver who signed with Michigan State a couple of years ago,” Brookwood coach Mark Crews said. “He’s a wide receiver and a return guy … just very athletic. He makes people miss in the open field and that kind of thing.

“He is just a heck of an athlete. Andre is around maybe 5-10, while Kyrin is about 6-2. He’s a really good-looking kid as far as his physique. He has a 2.9 GPA. He seems to be the ‘whole package,’ as they say.”

Wide receiver is a position of need after UGA only it only signed one last February, M.L. King’s Blake Tibbs. CJ Curry switched his commitment from the Bulldogs to Oklahoma State, while UGA targets JaQuay Williams (Auburn) and Cordarrelle Patterson (Tennessee) signed with other schools.

UGA is off to a blistering start for its 2013 class. Priester is the second WR commitment after Tramel Terry, although Terry may end up playing defensive back.

UGA commits for 2013

  1. RB Derrick Henry, 6-3, 241, Yulee, Fla.
  2. QB Brice Ramsey, 6-3, 190, Camden County HS
  3. S Tray Matthews, 6-2, 205, Newnan HS
  4. DB Shaq Wiggins, 5-10, 160, Sandy Creek HS
  5. DB Steven Nelson, 6-0, 185, College of Sequoias JC (Northside-WR HS)
  6. DT Chris Mayes, 6-4, 295, Mississippi Gulf Coast JC (Spalding HS)
  7. DT DeAndre “Moose” Johnson, 6-3, 311, Northgate HS
  8. WR Tramel Terry, 6-0, 185, Goose Creek (S.C.)
  9. LB Johnny O’Neal, 6-1, 230, West Laurens HS
  10. WR Kyrin Priester, 6-2, 185, Brookwood HS
  11. OL Aulden Bynum, 6-5, 250, Valwood HS
  12. LB Ryne Rankin, 6-1, 231, Orlando, Fla.

First?

I’m down with talent, but you can’t follow up “2.9 GPA” with “whole package” >_>

Go Dawgs tho.

TCU and Vandy? Is this young man talented? No other major programs are after him. Glad he wants to be a Dawg, we need more who want to be. Hope he turns out to be good. Any ratings/rankings on him?

Another OVER RATED UGA recruiting class. As long as the Dawgs get the weakest strength of schedule they will be fine.

Looks like the headline writer started on his weekend a little early!

Bo Zo Bo; You would take a cheap and unlearned shot at UGA without regard to hurting a young man for getting a scholarship. Get a life.

Good size and almost 600 yds. in half a season. That’s pretty good.
He’s probably on the low end of our list but we got room for 2 or 3 more WRs.

Don’t laugh, y’all. It’s hard to beat out Vandy AND yourself to land a recruit.

We have switched from a rebuilding mode to a reloading mode. It appears to be another good recruiting year coming up in 2013.

Likely, he’d have more offers at this point if he hadn’t been injured for half of last season. You can expect them to start piling on now that he’s committed to Georgia.

According to Scout… he’s not even rated, for whatever reason. Could be his injury… can’t really conclude much from this article about Priester, except for the fact that he told CMR they hugged. How good is he?

His highlight film is worth watching. He certainly isn’t afraid to go over the middle and is pretty good at making the first guy miss. Seems like a high character kid too which is what Richt needs. Welcome aboard and Go Dawgs! Will be interesting to see if he can dominate at brookwood which plays some pretty good competition.

I thought everyone said that religion didn’t play a part in football or recruiting…Sure it does and Congrats on coach Richt using what is clearly his strength…

“I chose UGA over UGA because Coach Richt really wants to win the conference and bring home a BCS championship. I just felt when I was at UGA they were ready to go to the next level, and I just didn’t get that from coach Richt at UGA. Ig Coach Richt had the passion of coach Richt, I’d probably be going to UGA instead of UGA.”

Just watch, on signing day he’ll put on the UGA cap intead. You know how kids are.

This film and the other on LHB show this kid to be a smooth receiver who gets good separation. He is an under the radar guy bc of the recent move mainly. Also did not camp much. Looks like he will be great! Welcome to UGA!

Congratulations to Mr. Priester for securing a scholarship offer to play football in college. This kid is going to be alot higher ranked after playing at Brookwood for a year in my opinion. LB Ryne Rankin has officially committed to UGA. Also, word that an Olineman is committing soon.

Why don’t recruits just be honest and say that they picked UGA because there are lots of girls, alcohol, and weed, and they won’t have to worry about class that much?

@ Dawg Haus – will do! My brother-in-law has subscriptions to several recruiting services and he hears this stuff way before I do. I have heard that one of the guys who was a pretty big deal with one of the recruiting services is joining the staff @ UGA, but I haven’t seen his name on here. There were several schools using the hot seat talk about Richt against UGA in recruiting last year and that hurt the Dawgs in trying to fill up the class. The good news is that UGA has plenty of spots to offer for this year and the pool is alot deeper for 2013 and 2014.
