UGA picked up a football commitment from one of their biggest positions of need on Friday.
Kyrin Priester, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver, picked UGA over scholarship offers from Vanderbilt and TCU. Priester is a Florida native who moved from the Orlando area to Brookwood High School last month.
He is commitment No. 10 for UGA’s 2013 recruiting class.
“I told Coach [Mark Richt] that I wanted to be a Bulldog; he was happy and he gave me a big hug,” Priester told the AJC.
Even though Priester is from Florida, he has always been a big fan of UGA because of AJ Green. He also said the Bulldogs appealed to him because of Christian beliefs of Richt.
“I committed to Georgia because I like Coach Richt being a great Christian because I’m a believer, too,” Priester said. “Also, it was because Georgia needs receivers, I’m a good fit for them and they like me.”
Last year as a junior, Priester missed the first five games with a fractured fibula but returned to catch 31 passes for 565 yards and five touchdowns. Last month, Priester moved with his mother to the Brookwood area. His new coach doesn’t know much about him, but likes what he sees so far.
“He reminds me of Andre Sims, our wide receiver who signed with Michigan State a couple of years ago,” Brookwood coach Mark Crews said. “He’s a wide receiver and a return guy … just very athletic. He makes people miss in the open field and that kind of thing.
“He is just a heck of an athlete. Andre is around maybe 5-10, while Kyrin is about 6-2. He’s a really good-looking kid as far as his physique. He has a 2.9 GPA. He seems to be the ‘whole package,’ as they say.”
Wide receiver is a position of need after UGA only it only signed one last February, M.L. King’s Blake Tibbs. CJ Curry switched his commitment from the Bulldogs to Oklahoma State, while UGA targets JaQuay Williams (Auburn) and Cordarrelle Patterson (Tennessee) signed with other schools.
UGA is off to a blistering start for its 2013 class. Priester is the second WR commitment after Tramel Terry, although Terry may end up playing defensive back.

@ Dawg Haus – will do! My brother-in-law has subscriptions to several recruiting services and he hears this stuff way before I do. I have heard that one of the guys who was a pretty big deal with one of the recruiting services is joining the staff @ UGA, but I haven’t seen his name on here. There were several schools using the hot seat talk about Richt against UGA in recruiting last year and that hurt the Dawgs in trying to fill up the class. The good news is that UGA has plenty of spots to offer for this year and the pool is alot deeper for 2013 and 2014.

I think it’s funny when someone makes a comment on here even though they have nothing productive to add to the conversation. Kyrin Priester is a young man, thus the use of Mr. If he were a girl I would call him Miss. Mr. can also be short for master which is an appropriate title for a young man.

The part about not going to class is a blatant lie. There are girls and weed and alcohol at every college in the world ,well not many girls at ga text but I digress, so why would that be a factor?
Most importantly anyone that said something that petty and stupid would have to be a hate filled pathetic little nothing and Georgia doesn’t want anyone that useless. Let’s be honest no one wants to have anything to do with a loser that would say something that patently stupid.

Rankin sounds like a great addition to the class:
“I was going to do it yesterday,” Rankin said, “but I didn’t have time to sit down to talk with my family because my dad had to coach his football team. I had to attend a National Honors Society event. It was past Midnight when we finally talked, so I felt like today was best.”
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Rankin has been a remarkably productive high school player at East River (Fla.) High School. He reportedly led the state of Florida in tackles as a junior, totaling 189.
He held offers from a number of schools to this point, but he received received an offer from UGA this past week and decided to commit.
“When I went up there, the atmosphere was great,” Rankin said. “The people there were great. The facilities were great. The academics were great. It just felt like the best fit for me. It is only seven hours and 50 minutes from where I am at right now, so that was good too.”
Rankin becomes Georgia’s 11th commit in the 2013 class and the second linebacker.
A star student, he plans to enroll early and participate in spring practice next year as a true freshman.
“They need linebackers,” Rankin said, “and that played a big role now especially with me being an early enrollee. I will be there next spring and get going at it.”

If it hasn’t been mentioned already, UGA also got commits from Ryne Rankin and Aldun Bynum today. Three good gets today. This class is filling up fast! Those recruits just sitting on offers but go ahead and pull the trigger or risk losing their spot. Cough, Cough, Seymour, Langley, Kublanow, Cardielo, Carter, and a few more.

redandblack: please stop with such silly claims about stars and athletes, not working nor will it work nor does anyone really care. Fact is we all hope this young man from Orlando comes in and plays with love and respect for the georgia football team, something that has been missing for many years now.

Glad to see Richt and Co. getting a head start with this class. Despite what those outside of Dawg country want to claim, getting the class of 2013 rolling allows our coaches to spend more time evaluating, offering, and recruiting the class of 2014 before our competition does. Nick Saban has done a great job of this at Bama and has obviously paid dividends for them. About time UGA got on the ball with this trend as well. Keep it up coaches!

Seems like every day there is a new story of a UGA commit that is such an outstanding player, and at least one story a week about a Tech recruit that picked someone else (usually UGA). I all seriousness, I can’t see how Tech ever comes close to UGA when they play each other, but it usually is a close game. Dawgs get double the talent that Tech gets, for a long list of reasons. In fact, UGA gets probably the best recruiting of any NCAA team. They are certainly doing a great job in that dept.

You iidiots who are putting the Dawgs down for beating-out Vandy, Ole Miss, TCU etc., are the same bozos who would be criticizing CMR next year for offering these guys too late. Don’t forget that the “bigger guns” in the SEC probably are close to offering these guys and we just beat them to the punch…..for a change. Go Dawgs!!!

And being a 6′5″ 250+lb lineman doesn’t mean he will be too small for the SEC. My gosh we have some true knuckleheads blogging on this site. The kid is 16 maybe 17 years old…….and will easily gain 40-50 lbs and possibly 1-2 inches in the next 2-3 years. It is the athletic ability, intelligence and physical frame that come into play. He is not going to start for UGa for several years so quit being so pessimistic!!!!

As a Tech man, I’m sure this kid is talented and I totally disagree with the comments that he was “only” offered by Vandy and TCU. TCU has a far better football program than UGA.
My key point is that the same nonsense is just a wrong when Tech recruits a kid who is “only” wanted by Vandy or TCU or Troy or Central FL etc.
Some UGA fans seem to believe that unless they beat out Saban for a recruit then the recruit must be second rate. Phooey !

I could careless about comments from any Bama, Gator, Tech or johnny come lately Gamecocks. BTW talk about not doing anything in years SC shouldn’t talk, yet I regress. If I wanted stupid comments I would join them on their school blogs.
Now that, that is over with, all I want to talk about is the fine UGA commits we got and the ones we may get. I just want the updates on visits and possible commits. If you or your team doesn’t like our commits, stop worrying your a$$ over them. If a prospect doesn’t come to UGA, fine and good luck to them any time they play except one. UGA plays in the toughest, most competitive conference in the USA! The best football is played in the SEC bar none, including the NFL!
So does anyone have an real info on UGA recruiting this weekend? Nevermind Bama, Gator, Tech or Cock bloggers, I want real info about UGA.

Most teams in SEC have very good talent, pretty close when it comes to first team on both sides ot her ball. The three keys to any team winning SEC: No certain order as each team year to year is different as to sequence but the three remain the same
1. Depth
2. Coaching the players up
3. Quarterback Quality and Play
Georgia is fair in the depth department,
Coaching players up has always been a problem, especially for equal or better opponents
Quarterback play for three past years is ” TERRIBLE “, NO WHERE CLOSE TO COMPETITIVE

Sapelodog,
You are exactly what is wrong with Georgia football. You look down your nose at a recruit that chose UGA over Vandy and TCU.then scorned Boise State. Let me educate you son. Boise State embarassed UGA in the Georgia Dome last year. It wasn’t even close. They schooled UGA. TCU, meanwhile, has DRAMATICALLY done better than UGA over the past many years and you want to castigate both of these programs. You are a troll and is what is wrong with Georgia football. You lose by multiple touchdowns to a school and refuse to respect them is atrocious. A school ranks dramatically higher than you for the past several years and you refuse to respect them is embarrassing. Shame on you. You make all of us Georgia fans look like morons because you are one. Please quit posting your ridiculous drivel. Begone.

[...] Receiver Kyrin Priester of Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood High School pulled the trigger for Georgia on Friday to begin the recruiting festivities. Priester is 6’2 and 185 pounds. He is a good student and also holds offers from TCU and Vanderbilt. Receiver is a major position of need for the Bulldogs, and Priester is a good addition. It is still quite early in the recruiting process, and Prister is yet to be rated by the major services. Here’s what Priester had to say about his commitment: [...]
