One of Atlanta’s top linebackers committed to Steve Spurrier on Thursday while visiting South Carolina.
Kight Dallas, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Arabia Mountain High School, said he picked South Carolina over football scholarship offers from Auburn, North Carolina, Wake Forest and N.C. State.
Dallas gave Spurrier the news in person at Thursday’s spring practice.
“Coach Spurrier was talking to some other coaches; I came up to him and said ‘Hey Coach, how are you doing? I just committed,’” Dallas told the AJC. “He said ‘Great. I’m glad to have here and I want to get you out here for the spring game on April 14.’”
Dallas has been a hot name in recruiting circles since winning MVP honors at linebacker at last month’s VTO Sports camp in Atlanta. He took an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech last Monday and expressed interest in UGA but had not heard much from the Bulldogs.
“At South Carolina, it feels like home,” Dallas said. “They really want me and I love the SEC, so I just committed.”
Why now? “I guess I visited a lot of schools. I just felt like South Carolina was the best fit. I’m just ready to start playing football, focus on my [high school] team, and get the recruiting out of the way.”
Dallas said he has a 2.8 GPA and wants to major in Communications or Psychology.
