Commit! Georgia LB pledges to Steve Spurrier, Gamecocks

South Carolina LB commit Kight Dallas at Thursday's practice with the Gamecocks

South Carolina LB commit Kight Dallas at Thursday's practice with the Gamecocks

One of Atlanta’s top linebackers committed to Steve Spurrier on Thursday while visiting  South Carolina.

Kight Dallas, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Arabia Mountain High School, said he picked South Carolina over football scholarship offers from Auburn, North Carolina, Wake Forest and N.C. State.

Dallas gave Spurrier the news in person at Thursday’s spring practice.

“Coach Spurrier was talking to some other coaches; I came up to him and said ‘Hey Coach, how are you doing? I just committed,’” Dallas told the AJC. “He said ‘Great. I’m glad to have here and I want to get you out here for the spring game on April 14.’”

Dallas has been a hot name in recruiting circles since winning MVP honors at linebacker at last month’s VTO Sports camp in Atlanta. He took an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech last Monday and expressed interest in UGA but had not heard much from the Bulldogs.

“At South Carolina, it feels like home,” Dallas said. “They really want me and I love the SEC, so I just committed.”

Why now? “I guess I visited a lot of schools. I just felt like South Carolina was the best fit. I’m just ready to start playing football, focus on my [high school] team, and get the recruiting out of the way.”

Dallas said he has a 2.8 GPA and wants to major in Communications or Psychology.

In judging Spurrier’s stated reaction, I’ll bet $100 that spurrier had no idea whether they had even offered this kid or not.

Good choice young man. You’re headed to an SEC championship very soon.

Gamecocks seem to be able to pick whoever they want from the state of Georgia.
More Georgia players on the roster than any other state.

Yeah, BPMM, when you want guys who don’t have offers from UGA, there are plenty of options in this state.

Hold on!!!!

@BPMM – Yall def can NOT get any player yall want from Ga. Yall get players that are ranked way out of the top 10 in the state (besides Elder). You might want to go back and look at what yalls Ga players were ranked in the state of Ga before you talk on the subject. Pretty sure UGA has the #1 player in S.C committed to the Dawgs too, so it looks like we can get yalls top players with ease……

We like our players from Ga. No names like Sterling Sharpe, George Rogers, Kalimba Edwards, and last years AAAAA defensive player of the year. After getting the #1 player in SC four years in a row, you can have the WR. See you in Columbia.

GA needs linebackers bad, not sure GA should have offered this young man yet but to never have made contact after such an impressive showing speaks volumes about Butts Mehre Govt Welfare Housing Exec’s.

BPMM, you have bragging rights on the field right now after the fluke you pulled out last year, no one, and I mean no one outside of South Crackolina things the gamecocks are going to win the SEC, or even the SECE. But as for as getting who you want in Ga, I never even heard of this guy, apparenlty no one else in the SEC has either, but congrats on the pickup. We are going to hang 50 on you this fall.

As if a offer from UGA was supposed to mean something…The dream team, ring team, missing man team, beat your girlfriend team, and I’m out of here team. Best of luck young man. At some point the other teams will using “Steve will not be your coach your entire career if you select the USCe”. The again those same teams are saying “no way will richie boy be running the dog pound your entire career”.

Congrats Kight Dallas, wish it could have been Tech but SC should treat you well. Spurrier a good coach to play for, up there with Coach Johnson as one of the best coaches in the country. Both have won National championships.

Reassuring Dog fan A Father

April 5th, 2012
4:44 pm

Congrats to this young man for getting an SEC scholarship. Not to be critical of a great fan like A Father but he might want to read a little closer- the article said he had not “heard much” from Georgia. Obviously they are aware of him, but have other priorities at that position. Let me allay your fears, A Father, Grantham and company are going to restock the linebacker corps with some of the nation’s best talent.

Also A Father, spend a little time on LHB to educate yourself on Georgia recruiting and it might ease your anxieties about our upcoming class. You and other fans will be pleasantly surprised at who is on UGA’s list. A Father will doubtless be thrilled at the monster class the Dogs are putting together, not just for 2013, but for 2014 also.

A Father has to be pleased at the pickup of one of the nation’s top 2014 safeties. Expect a commit from one of 2014’s top wide receivers shortly, and for Brendan Langley and JJ Green to come aboard soon. Being a strong UGA fan, A Father must be experiencing a recruiting high from the class Richt and company are putting together.

Let me be the first to assure you, A Father, Dog fans are in for a thrilling ride while competing for SEC titles and maybe more. Glad to have you aboard the UGA train!

Congrats! Looks like a good pick up. I know someone posted that UGA needs LB’s. I have to dissagree with that one. We are need of O-Linemen more so. WR’s as well AND a couple of big uglies for Nose guard. Then again that’s just my opinion.
Still say that the SC vs UGA game this fall will be the best game for the SEC East.

bhamdawg needs reading comprehension and help: Kight Dallas is a 2013 class, not 2014 like the short young man from yesterday. Also, I never said GA should have offered, just make contact and invited to Athens. Alabama has alot of football players visitor that never give an official offer, ie: nick glass.

@A Father… georgia has plenty of visitors also without offers and will never get an offer. You are an idiot. If this kid was good enough i promise you he would have an offer from uga especially being in the 2013 class. UGA still likes their chances with foster.

OOPS! mistake about A Father?

April 5th, 2012

Maybe I assumed too much about A Father being a Dog fan. (4:44 post) Would A Father please clarify? Let me modify my statement about LeatherHelmetBlog:
1. If A Father IS a Dog fan, check out the LHB for some UGA recruiting news
2. If A Father is NOT a Dog fan, I would recommend you stay away from LHB, as it will only depress you when you see the talent Richt and Grantham are assembling

I am not a recruiting “insider” but some who follow it more closely than I are saying the Dogs are close to picking up the first “Big Ugly” for 2013, and the rumored commit is from a small, private school in deep south Georgia.

Of course, tide roll logically cannot be too upset since Bama’s best OL came from a private Christian school
