Dalvin Tomlinson: Alabama football signee to undergo surgery after “significant” knee injury

Alabama-bound DT Dalvin Tomlinson will undergo knee surgery (AJC)

Alabama football signee Dalvin Tomlinson will undergo surgery after suffering a “significant” knee injury, according to the Henry Daily Herald.

Tomlinson, an AJC Super 11 defensive tackle from Henry County High School, waited until signing day to reveal his college decision, putting on an Alabama baseball cap over runners-up Georgia Tech and UGA.

Tomlinson injured his knee while playing soccer for his high school. He told the Daily Herald’s Brian Paglia that he expects to be fully recovered by the start of his college football season.

“I’ll be over it by the time the season comes around,” Tomlinson told the newspaper. “It was pretty shocking.”

It’s heartbreaking news for Tomlinson, who has had a rough year. His mother died unexpectedly last summer after a longtime illness.

  • UPDATE AT 9:45 p.m. MONDAY: A source from Alabama’s football department confirmed to the AJC that they were aware of the injury and said “that it doesn’t change anything in terms of him coming.”

HOW SOON UNTIL FOOTBALL SEASON?

Poor kid…soccer is a tough sport. The fact that he can play it at 6′2″ 270 is pretty amazing…and means he’ll have great feet and agility when he recovers.

Pretty low. He signed his LOI so that wouldn’t be an option anyway.

@FL Jacket, let me say this first: I have no reason to believe that Alabama will ask Dalvin Tomlinson to delay his enrollment or take a grayshirt. However, to the best of my understanding, the LOI does not guarantee it. I have asked Alabama for clarification on this issue.

How does Saban own the state when he gets 2nd pick from UGA…Crowell, Mitchell, Jenkins, Ramsey etc. etc.

Tough luck for the young man. Was probbaly looking at a redshirt at Bammer or Dawgs either one anyway. Could have gotten in playying time at Tech.

I feel so bad for this young man. Now he has to worry about getting his schollie pulled by Coach Saban. If he would’ve signed with Georgia, Dalvin would know that Coach Richt would take care of him no matter what. Coach Richt is a great Christian man. This is why you send your kids to Georgia instead of Alabama.

Fl fan,
Georgia fan isn’t too far off with his statement… Read up on how saban frees up schollys… just because he is signed doesnt mean that he will be wearing Crimson next year. Its sad but true.

Is it too late for us to trade Dalvin for Philon? The Philon kid has already has surgery and will be able to return a lot sooner. I don’t mean to sound harsh by writing all of this but you’ve got to make tough decisions while running the #1 program in college football. Hope you get better soon, Dalvan.

The LOI does not guarantee a scholarship. Elliot Porter found that out at LSU the hard way.

I hate to hear this about, from all I know about him, a fine young person who has had a very tough year. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. BTW some of you on here need to grow up and behave like the adults you purportedly are. Just because a young man made a decision about HIS future that doesn’t fit with your desires is NO reason to bad mouth him.

You can’t talk your way into a NC! You embarrass a lot of good UGA fans that don’t toe your get Nick Saban line. Rueben and Robert aren’t coming to your missing man team,or ring team nor your damn dream team.

The kid is still going to Bama in the fall. Saban would seriously be hurting his rep if he delays this kid’s enrollment. He has received a lot of negative press about it lately. I question how you can have a “significant” knee injury and yet be ready for football before the season begins. Then the injury is serious, but isn’t as “significant” as has been reported. Maybe in Henry County, it is. And to be clear, an LOI is non-binding, as far as the school is concerned, just like acceptance of admission, is non-binding, even though you received the letter stating so. This is why some athletes don’t even bother signing them, but instead sign “financial aid obligation” paperwork with some schools. This gives the player and his/her family some wiggle room.

You could understand some if this if it were coming from a top level program but a bunch that hasn’t one anything in 30+ years it’s amazing. You talk a great game but play at another. I am sure Nick is on the phone to this beatwriter to clarify Bama’s position.

His knee may be healed, but he will not be in playing shape by the start of the season. At best, he will play the last half of the season or redshirt.

You can get hurt doing most anything but playing soccer wasn’t a great plan. I had thought this kid might get some minutes due to he’s sharp and a great athlete as well. He’s not needed so he has no pressure to comeback before he’s ready. The defensive line is 3 deep at Bama already and that is why little mommy’s boy Jenkins selected the easy minutes at UGA and nothing more.

Yea, Saban would be dumb to pull his scholly after all the negative press. Schollys are on a year to year basis. Doesn’t mean he won’t pull it for the next year if it looks like he can’t go.
