Deion Sanders Jr. headed to Atlanta to play football

Deion Sanders Jr., the son of the NFL Hall of Famer, will be playing football in the Atlanta area next year.

The 5-foot-8, 175-pounder will enroll in a prep school, The Atlanta Sports Academy, which is located 45 miles north of Atlanta in Dawsonville. The two Deions will visit the campus on Wednesday or Thursday.

The younger Sanders, like his famous pops, plays cornerback and wide receiver. Deion Jr. is a senior at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, and said he bypassed the opportunity to sign football scholarships with Houston or North Texas last month.

Instead, the son of “Prime Time” will attend prep school with hopes of improving his college options. What options could those be?

Before Deion Jr. could reply, his father told the AJC on Monday night, “Let me intervene and answer that question: He’s not going to limit himself to what schools he’s going to generate excitement and attention for. The best possibility will be location, as well as some place where his talents will be utilized to play immediately. So we’re not going to say we want to be looked at by this school or that one because then you anger other schools. So we’re not going to get into that.”

Are there any “dream” schools that Deion Jr. wished to get evaluated by? Maybe an SEC or ACC school? Or his father’s alma mater of Florida State?

His father interjected, “We’re not going to say any schools … You’ve got to understand: I know the coaches at all those schools. We’re not doing it that way. He’s going to earn this and he’s going to do it with his talent, and not by my merit. I happen to know [college] coaches. So, we’re not doing it like that. He wants to earn it his way, and he wants all the schools to be attracted to talents, as well as his academic [achievements].”

Who is the greatest DB to play football?

Here’s some more background on Deion Jr.: He played at three different high schools, settling at Marcus as a junior and starting at quarterback. He led an option attack that averaged more than 300 yards per game, according to ihigh.com. As a senior, Sanders switched to DB, WR, and Wildcat QB.

“I think he’s very raw as a cornerback, and that’s why he’s going to [prep school] to refine and perfect his game,” his father said. “He played cornerback last year and right now I think he’s a better wide receiver than anything. It’s just natural when he has the ball in his hands. He’s capable of making plays. But he really needs to refine his skills at cornerback because I think football longevity resides there more than anywhere.”

Deion Jr., who also starred in the TV reality show “Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love,” said he doesn’t feel as much pressure as people would think being Deion Jr.

“People have high expectations because of my name, but I guarantee that my expectations are higher than their expectations,” Junior said. “I don’t blame them for having those expectations. I feed off it. I love it. It’s motivation for me.”

Why the prep school in Atlanta? The wealthy Sanders could’ve sent his son anywhere. “I’ve done my homework and many of the prep schools are military based, real strict and disciplined,” the elder Sanders said. “He has no problem with that. He’s really a good kid, a mindful kid, a very respectful kid, and a great student. He passed all of his tests and entrance exams. He really wanted somewhere that was comfortable in a city that his mother could frequent and was an easy transition for a flight. I had a comfort level where I could easily get there in a couple of hours on a flight. It’s a place where we felt was a safe environment for him.”

How often will “Neon Deion” – who works as an NFL analyst during football season – get to see his son play?

“I got a lot going on, my man,” he said with a laugh. “I will be there when I can. Thank God everything is filmed and everything is taped. I don’t have to be next to him every day for him to know that I love him. He knows that.”

Here’s Junior’s highlight tape. Take a look at let us know what you think …

“I kill me”

Sigh, if only we were so lucky…

The real question is, how does an NFL HOFer and his model wife produce a son that’s only 5′8″?

Follow the link to the article. This is not a typical high school; some kids are only there 1 semester. The goal is to raise their grades and SAT scores to make them more attractive for scholarships.

Will he be as abnoxious as his father? Is he as good of a rapper and dancer as Deion was in Must be the Money?

@ teach SS Your link to another article only shed more light on the ASA as a business out to make a buck at the expense of unprepared kids. The article purports the school as a junior college. They say you are a prep academy on their website, then this article says they are a Junior College. I can tell you they are not a Jr. College. They are not a part of the University System of Georgia nor the Technical College System of Georgia. Prove to me that the ASA is COC or COE accredited and I might look at the ASA in a different light. Show me their success ratio of how many kids that come into the program are actually then able to get into a Division I, II, III or NAIA program.

Not impressed. Only INT’s he had were poorly thrown, and he fumbled at the goal line once. Doesn’t have the speed to boot.
Overrated just like dear old dad….maybe he have a better end zone dance than that mouth of the south did.

Boykin is 5′10″ 180 lbs and runs a 4.45 40. The closest Dawg to him in size was Wansley and Tim Jennings. Both are around 5′9″ and both were all SEC. No need to bad mouth Champ Bailey who is a College All-American (twice) and NFL All – Pro six times. Deion is an NFL Hall of Fame DB and Champ will be too. Deion was very slender (maybe 165) when he got to the Pros. He could cover anyone but was often out weighed by 20- 30 lbs. or more. Maybe that is why he didn’t like to get in front and tackle.

Deion cant accept the fact that his kid cant play with the big boys. Which 2 star prospect turns down a scholly to Houston?? Last i checked, they just played in a BCS bowl game. Because Under Armour is his sponsor i guess he was able to get his son to play in the Under Armour All-America game. It was joke, he was like the only 2 star on an entire roster of 4 and 5 stars..lol

You say that Jr doesn’t have the size or talent to play big time Division I ball? Then he will be a good fit at GT.

Who does the Atlanta Sports Academy play? Never really heard of them in terms of football.
Also, Deion Jr does remind you of a smaller Prime from a build standpoint. And he moves like him a bit. But, he definitely does not have his dad’s top-end speed, nor his flash. But, he would be a ‘decent’ prospect.

They Atlanta Sports Academy is a prep school. They play NAIA JV teams, junior colleges, as well as other prep schools like Milford Academy , Army prep ,jireh prep. People need to stop hating they really help my son he had no offers coming out of high school and The Atlanta Sports Academy help him get a full ride to D1 program. Deion Jr is going to help out this young program and make it real big. They play really good ball they went up to Milford Academy who has the top prep Academy in American has put over a thousand of kids in to D1programs and they only beat the atlanta sports academy by seven points. Deion Jr and The Atlanta Sports Academy are going to make alot of noise the year .So just like TO said get your popcorn ready!!!!! GO watch them play they will play there games at north springs high school in sandy springs. And King dawg stop being a hater!!!!!!

Hahahahahahaha……..Houndstooth = Class

1)Bear Bryant was the “klassiest” drunk adulterer ever
2)Other notobale “klassy” bamers…….Snake Stabler & Joe Theisman are also notorious for their tact in all social situations
3) Mike Price was rolling “klassy” with Destiny
4) Logan Young was bank rolling extra “klassy” helping the Tide to a near death penalty.
5)The Krystal Flasher sunshined his “klass”
6) Harvey Updyke had chemical “klass”
7)”I’m not going to be the coach of the Miami Dolphins” was “klassy”
8)”I’m not going to be the coach at Alabama” was also “klassy”

It’s hard really, to put your finger on the origin of all this “klass”. Is it the singlewides? Is it the dog tracks? Is it the catfish houses? Is it the robust industry? Is it the yaller wood? Is it the buggy trails masquerading as state highways? Is it outstanding civic leadership like George Wallace? Is it Forrest Gump? Is it Montgomery? Is it the progressives that live in Selma? Is it the National Guard in Phenix City? Is it the outstanding public schools? Is it Birmingham’s international recognition?

Who knows? But one’s thing for sure, when I think of Alabama, I think of class………

d-jr.-please do a great job and show that your own merits will be enough to carry you to whatever you decide to do. i hope you might consider the university of michigan for a college choice, as brady hoke would be a great coach and man to learn from. even though i don’t know him personally, i can see the passion coach hoke has for his players, and i think he’s the old school type like bo schembechler, woody hayes and those type of legendary figures. i enjoy college and pro football, wish we’d have had h.s program when i was in school, so while i may not know the hard work it takes to make it, i appreciate watching the amazing talent in college and the pros, i always enjoyed watching your dad and even though i’m a 50 year steelers fan, i love watching all greats in the game! don’t let those who say your too small, and ect., prove them wrong! it would be really something to someday see your bust go into the hall of fame in canton next to your dad’s!

Keith B…thanks for the info. With that in mind…

The Atlanta Sports Academy?! I’m sure it’s a great place to further one’s education; after all, of all the places a rich kid could go…? But, I wonder why not Highland, where M Stafford went. They’ve produced a lot of college athletes and they have great academics.

Anyway, instead of N Texas it looks like N Ala or Ga Southern or Valdosta St or even a directional LA school. I wonder if Deon didn’t want to bring up FSU because he doesn’t think they will offer.

On the other hand, I know nothing about the kid nor The Atlanta Sports Academy. I just know that Deon is rich and his kid could go just about anywhere for prep school. I applaud Deon for trying to help his kid excel.
