Marqui Hawkins: WR adds offer from Florida

[Note: Story updated at 5:08 p.m. Sunday]

One of the state’s top wide receivers was offered by Florida on Saturday morning.

Will Muschamp is No. 1 to offer WR Marqui Hawkins (AP)

Will Muschamp offers Carver-Columbus WR-DB Marqui Hawkins (AP)

Florida coach Will Muschamp offered Marqui Hawkins, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior from Carver-Columbus High School who projects to play wide receiver or defensive back in college.

“When I woke up this morning, I had a text message from my high school coach to call Coach Muschamp,” Hawkins told the AJC. “I called and Coach Muschamp said he woke up early this morning to look at my film. He liked the way I could judge the ball, said I had decent speed, and that I can move body well to adjust to the ball. He likes that I can play both sides of the ball, so he offered me a scholarship.”

Hawkins attends the alma mater of UGA RB Isaiah Crowell. The Bulldogs are interested in Hawkins, along Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State and and Auburn.

What would be his dream offer? “Alabama. I love Nick Saban, I love how the players treat the recruits when they visit for games, and I love how they always win national championships.”

Hawkins also has early offers from Tennessee, Mississippi State and UNC, according to his coach.

Georgia will lose another recruit to another out of state team.He obviously has no interest in
GT.Tech doesn’t seem to go after anyone at Carver for some reason.
Good move on GT suspending Rice. That will help everyone in the long run,and will help Rice if he’ll get his head on right.

I can now die a content man.

Seen the kid, wasn’t overwelmingly impressed with him as a reciever. I think that he would make a better safety. Of course I only saw the kid one time and it’s pretty hard to judge on that fact alone. He didn’t make me just stand up and say, Georgia need’s to get that kid. Carver was a run on first down, then run on second down, and if you absolutely had to, then run on third down. Well, we will pass every now and then just to keep the kids from falling a sleep. Oh well if all of these schools are looking, then there must be something to the kid.

Once he finally does get the Bama offer, he will have a grey shirt to look forward to…

I feel certain that Tdawg and the other leghumpers would be singing this kids praises if his dream school was jawja. But the kid obviously doesn’t want to go 3-12 vs the top 25 such as UGA since 2009. Early on this is looking like the best class yet for Saban and only the elite will get an offer.

hope this is not another example of UGA being late to get involved with a GA kid. This is happening far too much the last couple of years. Not saying that here YET because i know nothing about the kid. just sayin.

Dawgs will get their WR’s. Just OL is priority now. It’s not like their will be a shortage of receivers. We want kids who want to be Dawgs and have pride. Best of luck to him but we are a talent rich state and will be loaded next year. With CMR and CTG locked up shortly Slick Nick won’t be able to use the hot seat against Richt. Gonna be a good year for the Dawgs and another solid recruiting class. GATA

no big deal–if UgA wants him, he’ll be a dawg. florida’s offense will be bad for years with those mediocre QBs and a bad oline.

Hawkins had better get a spot because the spots will be filling up fast.

Alabama’s first Junior Day recruiting weekend in January yielded three commitments for the Crimson Tide’s 2013 recruiting class and gave Nick Saban a head start on the rest of the nation for landing yet another top-ranked recruiting class. The Tide hosts its second Junior Day event this weekend and once again a bevy of highly-touted junior recruits are expected to be in Tuscaloosa for their formal introductions to the Alabama football program.

According to BamaOnline’s Charles Power, the Crimson Tide’s list of expected visitors this weekend includes one of the nation’s top overall defensive tackles, 6-foot-4, 280-pound star Montravius Adams. The Vienna, Georgia native is rated one of the top ten overall prospects in the nation for the Class of 2013 by 247Sports and holds over a dozen early offers.

Several other elite players from the state of Georgia, which has been a recruiting gold mine for Alabama under Nick Saban, will be on campus this weekend along with Adams. Rossville safety Vonn Bell is rated the nation’s No. 2 safety and figures to be the center of another intense recruiting battle between Alabama and Georgia while Marietta running back Tyren Jones has early offers from both the Bulldogs and Clemson and could pick up an offer this weekend during his visit to Tuscaloosa.

It is quite hillarious that the Parents and the kids love Nick Saban. But, yet the UGA fans hate him. I guess it has something to do with winning. Crowell’s Mom wanted him to go to BAMA also.

A real story would be the recruiting of Carver High School. It’s sad that the ajc doesn’t do some real journalism work and investigate schools like this that illegally recruit. And yes, because FTE numbers are at stake, it is illegal.

SABAN does not have that problem with Carver Columbus. I am sure Menzie has been in contact with Hawkins.

DeQuan Menzie – Defensive Back was a 2 year starter and did not cause any problems, and he is from Carver Columbus.

Wants to play for the Saban the Whinner. Can we please have another chance at LSU?
Thats all coming to an end if the playoff system comes about in 2014.
Couldn’t even win the SEC. Should have played UTAH or Michigan or Va. Tech.
Oh wait. We all know how that Bama vs Utah played out. About like the Bama vs UL Monroe.
Bama quit scheduling UL Monroe. Why?? Anyone??

^^^Yeah because there is no way that Alabama could beat LaMonroe anymore….You are an idiot and your comments are enough to back that statement up, Sautee Dawg. Talk about football if your program ever becomes relevant again. Until then maybe you should talk about your school’s gymnastic’s program.

NCAA is totally unfair to Nick Saban and and the University of Alabama. Do not understand why they pick on one coach and one school. Unfair!!!

NCAA adopts 4 year scholarship proposal, after last year reducing signing number to 25.Next year they are bringing the total down to 80 total with all signees in a 4 year period counting the entire 4 years against 80 total, excepting NCAA approved diciplinary dismissal, and medicals. Plus tghey just reduced Strength and Conditioning staffs to5 total. What is Nick supposed to do with those 5 extras? Totally unfair to Nick and UAB.

Just do not understand since all schools have been playing by same set of rules they would do this???

Look idiot or blackoutanyone, turd roller or what ever you call yourself. I said that I saw the kid play. I also said that he didn’t make me go wow, Georgia needs to go after this kid hard. I can’t help it if you get a hard on for every player that Nick Saban goes after. In case your simple mind couldn’t couldn’t comprehend what I was saying I will dumb it down for you. I DID NOT SEE THAT GREAT OF A RECIEVER. PROBABLY WOULD MAKE A MUCH BETTER SAFTEY. Not once did I say that he would not be welcomed at Georgia. ROLLLLLLLLL TURDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

JUST A REMINDER…….

UGA lost 4 games last year, 7 games the year before and 5 games the year before that.

Once Saban got Bama rolling – we have won 2 National Titles to add to the elite history that is Alabam football. Saban is steam rolling – UGA is trying to get to get by South Carolina.

And you wonder why so may kids from the Peach State think the ultimate team to play for is BAMA.

UGA is a good program – but not great and is not mentioned when conversations are about the Elite.

Alabama and Saban pretty much own the southeast. This kid hangs up the phone from a Fla offer and he says Ala is his dream school. The SEC is starting to resemble the old Big 8 conference when it was Nebraska and Okla battling it out and the rest were homecoming fodder. Ala and LSU have taken their places.

Alabama fans honest question:

Why do you gloat so much over the accomplishments of student athletes? Why continue to live through their on-filed success? You had nothing to do with any of their titles, so you really have nothing to brag about. Remember, you’re a fan, nothing more. Rooting for a team is a choice. Alabama has more titles, AWESOME! But we do have something in common, we both applied to UGA.
