Juwaan Williams: State championship QB offered by Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech QB target Juwaan Williams led Tucker to the 2011 Class AAAA state championship (AJC)

Georgia Tech QB target Juwaan Williams led Tucker to the 2011 Class AAAA state championship (AJC)

Quarterback Juwaan Williams, who led Tucker to the state championship this past season, was offered by Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior has around 10 early offers, including South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Kentucky, East Carolina and Central Florida. Georgia Tech is the only school recruiting Williams at QB, which he really likes.

“It was a great offer,” Williams told the AJC. “The system they run at Georgia Tech fits me to a ‘T.’ It’s just a little more reading that I have to do at the line of scrimmage. If I went to Georgia Tech to play quarterback, I’d have a chance to be the king of Atlanta. Georgia Tech is in the heart of Atlanta, and they have great fans that support the team.”

The other schools are recruiting Williams to play wide receiver or defensive back. Williams never played QB until he was needed at the position by Tucker this past season as a junior. He passed for 558 yards and 7 touchdowns, while rushing for 612 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was praised by his coaches for his game management.

Williams, who has a 3.5 GPA and wants to major in pre-med or sports medicine, had a face-to-face meeting with Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson on Wednesday.

“Coach Johnson sat down with me and my parents in his office, and explained to us how highly he thought of me as a student and an athlete,” Williams said. “He said they really liked me and they wanted me. We had a great conversation about Georgia Tech, and he shared a little bit about himself and his family.”

What did Johnson share? “I thought it was interesting how he talked about his daughter going through the recruiting process. She’s an opera singer, and he didn’t know that colleges recruit opera singers like football players. It was funny picturing Coach Johnson in the office with the dean of admissions, getting told this and that about a college, like a football player does on a recruiting trip.”

Williams plans to commit before the start of his senior year. His top three is Georgia Tech, Georgia and Vanderbilt. Williams is being scouted by the Bulldogs but said he hasn’t had any recent contact. “I like Georgia but it’s not like I’m not waiting every day to see if they’ve offered yet.”

Yellow Jacket Pride – that’s all you got? Look at the facts – Tech is a bottom dweller and will NEVER win big with CPJ. You guys hsould have kept Gailey – at least you were more competitive and exciting to watch than looking at that high school offense you guys run. Oh by the way – your defense is PATHETIC also. Tech is a third rate school in the state of Georgia behind UGA and Ga Southern. PITIFUL!!!!!

That’s a lot of pride to have in a team that had never lost to GT until getting run over by the option twice in two years once it showed up.

hey semin0le dbag,

at least we don’t recruit 4/5 star players and let their talent go to waste. we get the best out of the talent we have. when the was the last time FSU held any significance in college football? – other than being known for being overrated in the preseason rankings only to end up nowhere close.

Ok folks I have always liked Fla St. and have never really known their fans to be uneducated, which it would be to degrade a team that you can’t beat.

This sounds like a Ga fan and his “high school offense” argument.

I think we may have an imposter, it’s cool though at least he picked a good ACC school to say he he supports.

@Seminole Pride, if we suck, especially with our ~50 recruiting classes, where does that put FSU with their top 25 recruiting classes for the past 10 years? I know, it puts you at 0-2 against CPJ. Good luck next time, maybe at some point you’ll even live up to the hype.

At least one journalist does not buy into the old Chan Gailey recruiting myth…

This excerpt from an SI.com article grading new coaches’ 2012 recruiting mojo….

“UCLA’s Jim Mora: A. Despite NFL lifers’ historical proclivity for flailing in recruiting circles (see: Gailey, Chan), Mora has thrived since taking the reins Dec. 13. “

“And they have great support from their fans” LMAO Now that’s funny. Only college or pro team I’ve ever known that actually had to reduce the size of their stadium because of too many empty seats. Oh and watch out, you might get robbed or shanked walking to class.

Skydawg…

Great support from fans means more than shaving your head and painting it school colors. Great fan support also means refraining from urinating and defecating in the campus buildings and leaving behind 70 tons of trash on campus…

FL Jacket – every big school has similar issues. Fan support is SUPPORTING THE TEAM,…meaning GOING TO THE GAMES,…not having EMPTY SEATS!

FL Jacket

February 9th, 2012

Spanky…every school MOST CERTAINLY DOES NOT have similar issues. Only schools with uneducated, ignorant, and inebriated fanbases who don’t understand that the University allows the football team to exist…not the other way around.

While I acknowledge the stadium isn’t filled to capacity every Saturday, doing that at a smaller school with a more out-of-state student and alumni population doesn’t make comparing it to Athens a correct comparison. However, that being said, there were several fans dressed up as empty seats against Coastal Carolina and New Mexico State.

UGA President Michael Adams said he was “appalled” and is asking for help from fans before the next home game to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

@Skydawg : when you use quotation marks, you have to be EXACT. The kid didn’t say “and they have great support from their fans”. Those are YOUR words. Williams said “…and they have great fans that support the team”. Two different sentences with two different meanings.

Btw, why are you even here?
