Josh Harvey-Clemons: Changes mind, no schools “cut” (UPDATED)

[UPDATE: 8:05 p.m. After a two-hour wait, reporters learned that Josh will not cut any schools and have all four baseball caps in front of him at 9 a.m. Wednesday]

Josh Harvey-Clemons, who is ranked as the state’s No. 1 overall prospect by ESPN, will narrow down to two schools after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Valdosta radio station.

Who will make the cut? Who won’t? It’s down to UGA, Florida State, FSU and Miami for the 6-foot-5, 200-pound linebacker from Lowndes High School.

TheVikingVoice, the radio station that broadcasts the Lowndes football games, said on Twitter that Harvey-Clemons will narrow down to two schools at 6-8 p.m. Thursday. It will be part of a signing day show that will also include other Lowndes seniors at a Valdosta steakhouse.

What about Josh’s official announcement? That will come in front of ESPNU cameras at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

As you can imagine, we’re hearing every rumor in the book about Harvey-Clemons via emails, text messages and phone calls.

Earlier on Tuesday, we talked to a “source” – a Lowndes season-ticket holder for 40 years who had this to say about the Harvey-Clemons’ recruiting soap opera: “Josh’s grandfather does not want him to be red-shirted. Mark Richt would not promise that at UGA. FSU has showed him a depth chart with Telvin Smith, a Lowndes grad, starting at one OLB position this fall, and with Josh listed as second-string behind the other OLB … Mind games, but they may be working. A lot of people close to the family, including Jay Rome’s parents, have told him that red-shirting is a good thing. It can help with graduation and or a master’s degree. But the granddad has his mind made up about it and is quite influential.”

That source said Florida State and UGA would be the two finalists, while one of the top recruiting analysts in the business is projecting UGA and Florida. My guess? I’d say Florida State and UGA. But again, it’s just a guess.

You gotta love recruiting.

I think we can toss Miami out after he gave his visit down there a “6 or 7″ despite meeting Ray Lewis. I’d be shocked if FSU got in this late and knocked Florida out. A guy like him needs a redshirt season, he is too thin for 6 foot 5 right now and could easily put on another 30 pounds of muscle with Coach T working with him.

UGA most likely but FSU wants him….Florida isn’t as interested. I just don’t see him picking Florida over schools that want him more. UGA. If Florida gets him Ill be p*ssed because they’re gonna have a sick recruiting cycle.

6′ 5″ 200 LB. That is a pretty skinny kid. Receiver playing LB?

Grand daddy wants the pay checks. He might not live to see them if the guy redshirt’s.

I think you are spot-on Michael. It will be Georgia and Fla St. The kid is sure getting his money’s worth out of this but I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same at his age. No big surprise but I say he’s all Dawg in the end and it’s great that once again CMR is all class and won’t make a promise that he is unsure of.

His granddad reminds me of the granddad on The Boondocks if anyone else is cool enough to get the reference.

I guarantee CNS makes no promises of playing time, and hopefully CMR is the same. Kids that make a choice based off depth charts are making the worst possible decision…..

So many of these Ga kids are all about the drama and spotlight….. you can have them, IC lol.

Get over it.

All you guys who are “sickened” by a kid having fun with his recruiting process are
A) frustrated that he is not picking your school
B) fruatrated because you want to know NOW, and truth is you just have to wait,
C) Just plain jealous that you arent being courted by all these schools the way he is, making you a bitter individual.

I suggest if you fall in A, B, or C, to stop clicking on the recruiting beat on a southern newspaper’s website.

Carry on.

He red shirts wherever he goes. Question is who will lie about it to him? Obviously Jimbo did. Richt as usual told the truth. 6-5 200 lb linebackers will get you beat, and may get the player hurt. Do what you want JHC and Grandfather.

Bug Zapper

And on the topic of his grandaddy wanting him to play right away, I think that is a bit much no matter where he goes.

He would be best suited as a Dawg, learning from the outstanding defensive players that are already in place, and learning right along side Jordan Jenkins, who could potentially be an outstanding friend and influence to have while maturing as a college player.

But if he feels he needs to make immediate impact in order to commit, best of lcuk to him. It won’t be at UGA with the talent in place now.

It’s a VERY selfish way to view yourself and your potentials.

Riiiight. It makes so much more sense to go to a school where there are 6 guys ahead of you on the depth chart.

Then the granddad demands Grantham for playing time. So on and so on.
Those with demands usually do not work out. I played college basketball 40 years ago and found out about talent around you. When he gets on the college football scene and sees all that talent around him and goes thru that first scrimmage, he might understand the deal.

As far as all these high school stars having press conferences to announce their decision, let them have their moment. I mean they are constantly harassed from recruiting writers wanting to know where they will be headed, coaches calling and emailing them, and fans like us hanging on to every word they say and dissecting what they mean.

Let them get their 30 minutes to wear that hat at the HS cafeteria. After tomorrow’s signing day, then it’s time to get to work.

Go Dawgs!

It will take years for Clemons to put on enough weight to be effective in Georgia’s 3-4 defense. FSU isn’t afraid to play light-weight LBs in it’s scheme.

-Clemons will be 2nd team immediately (see Telvin Smith)
-only 1 hour away from Tallahassee
-will play behind a great DL: Fowler>Casher>Edwards>Jernigan>Goldman

Big day for UGA tomorrow.

Brandon Greene flipping to UGA from Bama. Davlin Tomlinson is going to UGA as well.

When this happens get ready to feel the heat from Bama fans on this blog and others on the AJC site. I have noticed some of their fanbase has become very spoiled and very arrogant and nasty in the past few weeks. If our fanbase becomes that of Bama I would rather not win a MNC Game.

I really don’t see him starting at any major program, until he hits the weighs a little and puts on a few pounds. 200 pounds over a 6′5″ frame is more of what you would see in a basketball player. If he wants to start, I doubt he will pick UGA, because right now, we have starters at LB, that are very good. J. Romes parent were telling him right. Redshirt the first year, get a good start in your academics, and put on the weight you need to compete at your position in the SEC. If his grand dad thinks he is ready to start come this fall, I hope the kid works his butt off in the weight room, and puts on the weight needed to compete at the DIV. I level. If FSU has told him he will start for them this fall, they aren’t being honest with him, I believe. CMR is being honest with him, so if he goes else where, UGA will at best, be losing future depth at LB.

What’s Grandad gonna do if a school promises to not redshirt, but then reneges on that promise. Thing is, if he is the best, and he is ready, he’ll get playing time wherever he goes. But, it ’s very dangerous for any coach to make guarantees. You’ve heard competition makes you better, well a guarantee could do the opposite, and could disrupt your entire team’s attitude.

So he’s gonna crack the 2 deep at FSU where they’re supposed to have one of the best, deepest D’s in years? I’m not taking anything away from his abilities but he’ll be used just enough to burn a RS year (thus fulfilling any promises made) and that will not be a good investment of time.
On the other hand, once again, Richt and staff are honest to a fault and this BS never seems to catch up with the other teams that will tell a kid (and apparently family members) what they want to hear to get them on campus then do exactly what they want once they’re “trapped”. NOBODY ever seems to take a history lesson in this game…that has become VERY clear.

Now for this player, FSU has built quite the tunnel of late to Valdosta. I’m thinking FSU. I do think GA scores Avery Young tomorrow. Good luck Dawgs. As it looks right now, your gonna need it!

So what if he redshirts. The best talents the last few years have redshirted. Moreno redshirted. Jarvis Jones redshirted. Jay Rome redshirted. Ray Drew should have been redshirted and as far as I know he wasn’t….may be wrong but I do know he played a few snaps. Only talents who started were on Offense Crowell, Green, Charles. Ogletree started but was in a different position to begin with than he is now.

Red shirt, or prove you can start in the rotation. I garuntee with or depth and strentghs at LB you will start next year because some of these guys will jump ship having two good seasons.

UGA Insider…I was very impressed with your predictions last year. If memory serves, I’d like to say you only missed big on one recruit on whether or not he was or was not coming to UGA. I don’t recall the player, but do recall you responding to it.

As we know, anything you are wrong about tomorrow will be thrown at you by the trolls in full force. At what confidence level (percentage) do you believe UGA will get a commitment from:

Dawson
JHC.
Avery
Greene
Tomlinson

From everything I have read, I would list Dawson as 75% (going to UGA over Vandy), JHC as 30% (going to AU), Avery 80% (going to UGA), Greene 10% (going to Bama), and Tomlinson as 30% (going to Tech).

I have nothing to go on but what I read. Your thoughts?

“It’s down to UGA, Florida State, FSU and Miami…”

Well, it’s a cinch that one of the Florida States will be eliminated. Grandpa sounds like he already sees dollar signs three years from now.

If he comes in prepared and in shape he’ll play, if nothing else then on special teams.
