Dalvin Tomlinson has the paperwork from Georgia Tech, Alabama and UGA, says his coach. Where will he sign? (AJC)
Georgia Tech, Alabama, and UGA must all feel like they have a shot on Dalvin Tomlinson, the AJC Super 11 defensive end from Henry County High School.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pounder has gotten a letter-of-intent in the mail from each of his three finalists, his coach told the AJC. On Wednesday morning, Tomlinson will sign a football scholarship with Georgia Tech, Alabama or UGA.
“There’s nothing new … well, I mean, Dalvin hasn’t told anybody anything,” Henry County coach Mike Rozier told the AJC. “He knows where he’s going but he’s not telling anybody. That guy is tight-lipped and poker-faced. His own family members, his aunt and uncle, they don’t know.”
Georgia Tech and Alabama have been rumored to Tomlinson’s frontrunners since last summer. The Yellow Jackets dispatched coaches to see Tomlinson the past two weeks, according to Rozier. Georgia Tech supporters point out that Tomlinson attended nearly every Yellow Jackets’ home game this past season and that he may want to stay relatively close to home after last summer’s unexpected death of his mother due to a longtime illness.
What about Alabama? If you read the Alabama message boards, you’d think that Tomlinson has “secretly committed” to the Crimson Tide. There’s also a popular conspiracy theory that that’s why Tomlinson finally was smiling last week – that he got the green light that a scholarship spot had opened up for him. Who knows? I do know I talked to a few Alabama commits about Tomlinson and they said “definitely Alabama” for whatever that is worth.
Then there’s that darkhorse, UGA. Tomlinson didn’t make his official visit with the Bulldogs last week because of “family reasons” and wrestling. His coach said Tomlinson has been to UGA a dozen times since he was a sophomore for one reason or another. It appears to be a super-duper longshot, validated only by the never-ending rumors about UGA “mystery” recruits – kids publicly committed to other schools that will flip to the Bulldogs on signing day. Then again, UGA obviously feels they’ve got a some kind of chance because they sent Tomlinson an LOI.
What’s your prediction? Please post below.
RELATED: As expected, Henry County QB-DB Chris Moody switched his commitment from Vanderbilt to South Carolina on Monday. Moody pledged to Vanderbilt a couple of weekends ago, but was talked into taking a last-minute official visit to South Carolina. Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward might’ve recruited the state of Georgia better than any other college coach this year. At least 11 Georgia players will sign with South Carolina. “Chris will play DB but they also like him as a Wildcat QB,” Rozier said.

As smart as Tomlinson is he may want to go to GA or Alabama because he could probably finish his degree requirements in one year and have a doctorate before his four years are up. Just sayin’.
WRONG..at the rate Bama players are making the Honor Roll Tomlinson could finish a doctorate there easier.

Wow…I know there are some Alabama fans that have some class. But some of these guys posting on behalf of Alabama must be related to the same baba fan who killed the trees at Auburn. For one, I would rather have Richt as a coach who has integrity with recruits than with Saban who cheats and lies to recruits. Sorry you 2 or 3 clueless bama fans on here…we do not have Saban envy like you do. Secondly, the only way Bryant, USC, and Oklahoma won the number of Championships they did is because the NCAA did not place a scholarship limit on schools back then. Since that time, how many national championships have USC, Bama, and Oklahoma won? Right, you only win when you have an advantage over teams in the level and number of athletes you recruit. Put your teams on an equal footing with the other NCAA football schools, and lets see where you stand. As an SEC fan, I think Alabama is a disgrace to the SEC and NCAA because you act like you win games playing according to everyone else’s rules but Saban bends the rules or lies to win games. And you think that is fine. What I call that is: classless. so go ahead…joke about all the other schools who play Bama and criticize Saban for the way he recruits and lies…you are still Classless.

First, readers need to recognize that ESPN has a VESTED INTEREST in all things SEC.
Thats the only way ESPN will ever be able to afford to pay the Billion contract it signed with
the SEC.
Second, see this AJC article: http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2008/12/28/acadmain_1228_3DOT.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab
Here’s the important part:
“Georgia Tech’s football players had the nation’s best average SAT score, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0 in the core curriculum. But Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower on average than their classmates.”
“At the University of Georgia, the average football SAT was 949, which is 239 points behind the average for an undergraduate student at Georgia — and 79 points behind Tech’s football average. The Bulldogs’ average high school GPA was 2.77, or 45th out of 53 teams for which football GPAs were available. Their SAT average ranked them 22nd.”
What this article makes clear it that The Hill at GT is very selective on who it allows the GTAA to offer scholarships to. More selective than what the GTAA might prefer. It also proves that the average GT undergrad is VERY academically accomplished.
The fact that UGA ranks 45th out 53 only serves to CONFIRM how illiterate UGA recruits are, and that UGA will and does offer scholarships to any of this state’s illiterate high school “graduates”
that the admin at GT will not allow.
Need an example: try Lonnie Outlaw. Outlaw was recruited by UGA, and is required to attend Georgia Military for 2 FULL YEARS…before…UGA can even accept him. Outlaw must be seriously illiterate if he needs 2 full years at remedial-stupid school just to be eligible at UGA.
Third, lets face facts: The Athletic Association at UGA is a plantation system.
There’s no other way to describe an organization that takes illiterates kids, puts them in remedial education for the purpose of getting them qualified to play football so that can generate revenue for the Athletic Association. Do i jest? UGA’s very own infamous Dr. Leroy Ervin said EXACTLY those words in US Federal Court.
Fourth, this state is turning out legions of barely literate high school graduates. GT will always have a tough time recruiting, if this state’s high schoolers are graduating…dumber and dumber each year.
Fifth, Over-signing. The SEC has perfected it.
Sixth: $$$$$. Bama, Auburn, and SEC schools pay BIG $$$$ to recruits.
Just ask Herschel, or Cam.
Way too many examples to list, but you get the idea.

Dawgs have 64 scholarship players as of 1/01/12. With 17 committments/early enrolees. believe that totals 81, so do not see but 4 left unless the 2 HS already enrolled qualify as last year, so maybe 6 new names max tomorrow. Believe we get 5 and have another solid class as last year.

GT offers a superb college education and I am certain that Dalvin would play from day one for the Jackets. Also, look at all of the recent DL and DE players that have played at GT and are now having huge success in the NFL. Add the fact that Al Groh runs a 3-4 scheme and he is more than well respected by NFL coaches with regard to his ability to teach the 3-4. I do not have any inside info, but I will publically admit that I hope Dalvin decides to attend and play football at GT!!!

Now why in the world would some kid from Georgia consider going somewhere else other than UGA or Tech? I’m always mystified because if they stayed in-state. either Tech or UGA would have a national champion every couple of years. Makes no sense that South Carolina (of all places) would out recruit UGA in this state. Who talks to these kids? Makes you wonder what kind of ‘juice’ is being passed under the table doesn’t it?

Always good for big LOLs … the biggest being the people claiming they aren’t envious of the Crimson Tide program … then they spend hours a day … every day .. on a college football blog … trying to run down Bama in any conceivable way they can . When they run out of silliness on football they move on to any other third grade insult they can cut and paste from each other
By the way Mudgeon … back when kids were basically forced to stay for the most part in Georgia because of how recruiting worked .. the two schools you mentioned weren’t winning national championships “every couple of years” back then . What makes you think it would suddenly start to happen in 2012 … or beyond ? Let me guess …. more “magical thinking” .
Let’s let the kiddies get back to proving how disinterested they are in Alabama football . Surely they have a couple of puerile momma jokes left in them

There is a BIG difference between “envying” or admiring the results and envying the program. Sure we would all like to have the results that Bama has had, but I guarantee you no school in the country admires or envies the methods you use to get those results. It is TOTALLY UNETHICAL!!!!

Crimson Crush, there is nothing fabricated about a sleazeball coach who makes commitments to sign players and then pulls the offers when he decides later that he doesn’t need them after all, or that he has too many other commitments already and has to drop a few Or “promises” to hold a scholarship open next year for an injured kid, knowing full well he might decide next year that the injury was so bad that the kid just doesn’t have it anymore. Hopefully, somebody will (or has) knocked some sense into the kid’s head that if he doesn’t get the hell out of there, he may end up never playing football for anybody. What about any of that do you think is fabricated or in the least bit ethical? I guarantee you you wouldn’t work for a boss who operated like that.

Actually … I’ve worked under otugh bosses before . It didn’t kill me . And just a small ( but not insignifcant ) correction … unlike what Paul Johnson or Mark Richt did in the last week … Saban never pulled Taylors offer of a scholarship … EVER … not even in the fantasy manufactured pages of the AJC articles about the kid . So you are indeed stretching long and hard to fabricate . You are starting to look sort of green there Supa ..

No, he didn’t pull it; he just made a promise he knew he didn’t have to keep and probably wouldn’t. And Paul only pulled the scholarhip offer for a kid who couldn’t qualify academically. And then he turned around and helped the kid get in touch with coaches at other schools. I don’t recall Saban ever offering to help anybody like that

Everybody, including you, Crimson, should read the article about Denzel McCoy and Antonio Wilson. There is much wisdom to be gained from those two kids. THAT is what the college experience really SHOULD be about. They may have never played football, but they are probably better men for what they went through, and I bet that both are great successes in life.

Hrmmm … after looking .. I see what you mean by “wisodm” … according to the AJC article
“Wilson, a defensive end from Columbia High, committed to Vanderbilt in late January 2008, but switched to Tech at the last minute. The surprise prompted an irate call from a Vanderbilt assistant on signing day.
“He was like, ‘How could you do this to us?’” Wilson said.”
So … basically …. the kid was great to you … because he committed to Vandy one week and shafted them for Georgia Tech then next ? How about YOU go back and read “what it is all about ”
If you are trying to play up the whole “they got injured and couldn’t play worth a damn” bit as evidence of “what it is all about ” .. I offer you Tide player Zeke Knight . A kid who had trials every bit as hard as the two you mentioned … and STILL kept pushing through to keep trying to pursue his dreams . To the point that after Saban offered him a cushy out in the form of a medical redshirt where all he had to do was go to class …. he took the hard road and left Bama to do it . The kid appllied to sveral schools before he found one willing to take a chance with him . Even after he finally found a new college that would take him … he had to sign a release saying if he dropped dead on the field … it wasn’t their fault ( I am sure it must have been Saban’s fault all that happened . That is what OverWhining.com tells me anyway )
