Nick Schuessler: QB commits to Mississippi State

QB Nick Schuessler is the 6th Georgia senior to commit to a D1 school (AJC)

QB Nick Schuessler, who led Grayson High School to the state championship in Georgia’s largest classification, told the AJC that he committed to Mississippi State on Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder has been compared to former UGA QB David Greene by Grayson coach Mickey Conn, who was an assistant at South Gwinnett when Greene played there.

“It has been my dream to play in the SEC since I was little,” Schuessler told the AJC. “God opened a door for me, so I am taking it and running with it. I’m just chasing a dream.”

Schuessler visited Mississippi State this past weekend and spent a lot of time with offensive coordinator Les Koenning. Schuessler picked Mississippi State over Colorado State, and also had serious interest from Arkansas.

“Mississippi State is just where my heart was telling me to go,” Schuessler said. “I love Coach Koenning and I really felt like I mixed well with the players.”

As a senior at Grayson High School, Schuessler completed 121 of 181 passes for 1,753 yards and 19 touchdown while leading his team to the Class AAAAA state championship.

I love his statement, “It has been my dream to play in the SEC since I was little,” Schuessler told the AJC. “God opened a door for me, so I am taking it and running with it. I’m just chasing a dream.”

I hope he does well… except when they play UGA.

Best of luck, but I do have a question. Doesn’t MSU have their QB run a lot? Is he a dual threat QB or primarily a pro-style QB?

Unless Miss St. makes it to the SEC championship game, (and I don’t see that happening), he will probably not play against UGA. Maybe they will rotate back on UGA’s schedule by his senior year.

All I can do is laugh at Ms. Bullys comment of welcome to the real Bulldog Family! Last time I checked your bulldogs have NEVER played for a SEC Championship and have only beaten the REAl Bulldogs of UGA once in 40 years! But would like to congratulate this young man for never giving up on his dream to play in the SEC. Go Dawgs from Athens.

Completing 66% of passes in high school is great. Especially when you think about throwing it to Soph, Jr. and Sr. highschool WR. I wish him luck at Miss State. I look forward to getting to watch him play in the future.

Didn’t I just read a day or so ago that both Schuessler and the center from Grayson, Fred Zerblis, commited to Colorado State?

They were both happy to be going out there together. What happened?

I’m sorry ‘The Truth’ but MSU is a Tier 1 University. It may not be Harvard but it’s a fine place to get an Education. Engineering, Architecture, Vet Med, and the whole Agricultural Majors are excellent and competitive to anywhere in the Southeast. And we have pretty girls, oh the girls fo the SEC. Oh yeah and the Football is second to none!
Plus who calls themselves ‘The Truth’ on a message board. I’m just going to guess you log a high number of hours on World of Warcraft of Second Life. Keep hating Troll.

It is so nice to see people sincerely congratulating a great player for getting a scholarship to a great school. As a Bama grad, it is frustrating because if he had committed there, then this blog would already be full of people trashing the state of Alabama, the college, and the coach. Whether or not UGA even wanted the player…

He really doesn’t get to pick, it’s up to the school. 3rd time is a charm.

Congrats Nick. Funny how these wormy a-wipes try to bring people to their level. By attending college (wherever) for one year, you will be more educated than most that have posted here. Signing with an SEC school is a big deal. SIgning with McDonalds as a fry cook (as most posting here) is not.
