Mark Richt and his entourage of UGA coaches visit Auburn and Alabama recruits

Which recruit does UGA have a better chance of flipping?

UGA threw everything they had at one of Auburn’s top recruits on Thursday.

The Bulldogs paraded a line of football coaches, led by Mark Richt, through Sandy Creek High School in order to woo and impress JaQuay Williams, the state’s top WR prospect. He has been committed to Auburn since last summer but is considering flipping to UGA by next week’s signing day.

UGA’s recruiting tactic turned heads everywhere at the school.

“Georgia had them all in today to give it one last shot,” Sandy Creek coach Chip Walker told the AJC. “They are making one last push for him.”

Richt brought along an entourage of assistants – offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, wide receivers coach Tony Ball and recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner.

“I think it went good,” Walker said. “JaQuay had time to talk to them for a little bit. I thought it was good day overall for both JaQuay and Georgia.”

What will JaQuay do? Will he stick with Auburn or switch to UGA? Offically, Williams remains committed to Auburn but there’s hope for UGA. “JaQuay doesn’t know exactly what he’s going to do yet. He’s trying to figure it all out, you know. It’s a lot on a young man. He’s just trying to take his time to make the best decision for him and his family.

“I’m thinking that this thing will play out until signing day. That’s my guess.”

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Williams has decided not to take an official visit to Florida this weekend. It will be an Auburn-Georgia battle that will be finalized when Williams is scheduled to sign at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at Sandy Creek High School.

Georgia got involved very late with Williams, offering a scholarship a few months ago and convincing him to visit the campus last weekend.

“I think Georgia has some really good things to sell to JaQuay,” Walker said. “There’s the fact that they have a returning quarterback in Aaron Murray, who is established and can get the ball to him. The offense that Georgia runs is wide receiver-friendly. I think they’ve got a crew of wide receivers. Those are some of the big things that have really helped out UGA with JaQuay.”

Note: Richt and his entourage also stopped by Cedar Grove High School on Thursday to visit with offensive lineman Brandon Greene, who is a longtime to Alabama. The Bulldogs are desperate for offensive lineman after Chester Brown de-committed because of an immigration policy earlier this week.

Ever heard of A. J. Green?

I think the fact that he decided not to go to Florida says it all.

Looks like he’s decided it will be a smarter move to play in a real offense where he will catch TD passes from Murray and LeMay vs blocking for RB’s in Chizik’s spread.

Good luck with the decision. Good to see another kid from Fayette County doing well. Georgia is a better fit & better positioned for success over the next four years. Cannon is dreaming. Ask A.J. Green what it meant to him. Auburn goes through coordinators like underwear. Good luck dude.

WDE, it would be hard for a good receiver to have a bright future at Auburn when they don’t have a QB who can even get him the ball, and even if they do bring in a real QB in this class, who’s going to coach him up?

Go to Georgia and become one of many receivers. Go to Auburn and become the man. New offense will be receiver friendly and have OC known for developing QB’s.

It would be a mistake for either of them to change their mind. This entourage from uga reminds me of the silliness Chiz undertook with limos a couple of years ago. That being said, uga is a sinking ship and amongst the largest underachievers in CFB history. A state this size with only one major program (GT doesn’t count!) should have more SEC titles than just a few. It is really quite sad. Richt may be a nice guy, but the rest of the SEC coaches love him too because he cannot put together an entire season. As long as he stays in town, the west will continue to dominate the conference.

tj, we have QB problems, but part of that was the play of the offensive line, which should be much better this year, and poor play of our receivers which JaQuay could solve.

I read that he is a one and out to the NFL player…..if so….it makes little sense to go to an Auburn team in serious transition and without an established QB. Georgia makes perfect sense for him to showcase his talents next year for the NFL…..I am sorry to say……AU Tiger fans.

You people talking about Auburn’s offense need to do your homework. Auburn has been the only coaching staff to stay in tact for 3 years. This year, we have two great new coordinators. The OC is the best QB coach in the business, and the spread is no longer the law of the land. We have several really good QB’s, who will be much better under his coaching. It’s about time these guys learn the meaning of the word commitment. Auburn will will another NC in the next few years. If he wants to be part of something very special, he should live up to his commitment.

Not going to Florida to visit……that certainly makes me feel better about Diggs and Aglohor coming to Gainesville to join Pittman (although USC is making a serious run at Aglohor and Meyer is putting the hard press on Diggs).

@ Randy Young, don’t buy into Chizik’s and Auburn’s overhyping of Loeffler’s resume.

This is from a Bleacher Report article.

Even though his bio reads as though he was instrumental in such development as Chad Henne, Tom Brady, Brian Griese, Jon Navarre, Drew Henson and Tim Tebow for the NFL, you can tell Temple was trying to give credible credence to the hire. Specifically, Loeffler was not the quarterbacks coach during the Brian Griese and Tom Brady Michigan era, he was a graduate student and assistant, respectively.

As the Temple Owls offensive coordinator in 2011, Loeffler guided the offense to a 9-4 season and 63rd ranking in total offense. The previous year the Owls were 89th and 8-4, being shunned from the postseason bowl picks.

Increasing the team’s scoring average, he decreased the passing numbers while riding several players, including utilizing three quarterbacks, during the season to rack up a seventh-ranked rushing attack. They dropped to the 116th passing squad, which was last in the division.

A parade of coaches? Really? That was a bad headline. “Georgia sends the entire coaching staff to in order to flip recruit” is simpler, less hyperbole, and still catches the eye. I can’t defend the undefensible in this case. Now for the really bad part? What if Jaquay turns out to be another Tavares King? Why doesn’t the entire coaching staff show up at Cedar Grove, or at some DB’s school? Just my thoughts. All of this smells of desperation masked as love.

Eleta…..

That OC that is the “best QB coach in the country” is the same guy who coached up one, John Brantley, at Florida as their QB coach. And he actually hindered Tebow’s passing skill development at Florida. Florida dumped him after last year and he went to Temple to exhibit those awesome QB and OC coaching skills. P.S…….Michigan also dumped him.

A.J. Green ought to be enough to convince this young man to go UGA. OBTW… he’s coming out of the same high school as Calvin Johnson (aka “Megatron”) who was “All-Everything” at Georgia Tech and the #2 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Kid needs to go somewhere where they throw the ball… that would be UGA over Auburn… ALL.. DAY… LONG. Somebody posted the stats above… UGA threw 37 TDs in 2011-12 while Auburn only threw 17.

Stafford was better than Bobo at calling plays and called his own plays during the game. Bad when your QB is smarter than your OC.

Imagine Bammer fans criticizing UGA over their recruiting efforts. There is certainly nothing improper about UGA efforts as discussed in this article. It’s a free country and these kids can choose whereever they want to spend the next 4-5 years. Besides Richt has whipped Saban on the football field more often than not. Coupled with a superior education at UGA and playing in front of family and friends at home should be enough to sway a couple of them. The state of Alabama has always been a little brother to Georgia. Even your origins are in Georgia.

Robert Nkemdiche will visit Bama Monday for junior day. Let’s review… the only game he took in this year was LSU at Alabama. Just cancelled a trip to his brother’s school (Ole Miss) to visit Bama again. Top two 2013 prospects (Robert K. and Rueben Foster) Bama locks.
