Antonio Crawford: Georgia Tech DB recruit will visit Miami

Is Georgia Tech in danger of losing one of its top recruits less than a week away from signing day?

DB Antonio Crawford, who has been committed to Georgia Tech since last summer, will take an official visit to Miami this weekend, according to his Facebook page. Crawford wrote that he had been offered a football scholarship by Miami and he “was going to be in MIAMI this weekend to visit The U.”

The 5-foot-11, 184-pounder is from Tampa football powerhouse of Plant High School, which produced UGA talents Aaron Murray and Orson Charles.

Georgia Tech did an intensive evaluation of Crawford at camp last summer, deciding to offer a few days later – with Crawford committing on the spot. At the time, Crawford picked the Yellow Jackets over Iowa State and Florida International.

It was good scouting by Georgia Tech because it took other schools until Crawford’s senior season to notice him,  eventually leading to the reported recruiting trip to Miami on the final weekend before signing day.

Ironically, on the same day that the news broke about Crawford, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson visited with the No. 1 recruit for this year’s class – 4-star DE Francis Kallon of Central Gwinnett. “It went well,” Central Gwinnett coach Todd Wofford said. Kallon has spurned offers from Auburn and Tennessee, along with heavy interest from Alabama, Notre Dame and UGA.

In the past, Paul Johnson spoke out about “what commitment means.” Click here to read more.

Might as well go and see what they are willing to pay and visit with the stable of strippers that the U keeps on hand for the recruits

Antonio, I am sure it is tempting, but Miami hasn’t been relevant in years, and NCAA sactions are coming down soon. Help us build a top-notch defense at Tech, a stable program having gone to 15 bowl games in row.

Agree with Biff. Somehow Miami is able to have industrial cheating without any NCAA sanctions. Vs. Tech where the Yellow Jackets can’t breathe hard without losing the ACC championship.

With NCAA Sanctions looming, I’d want nothing to do with my kid playing at Miami. That program is in a tail spin downward and will take a decade to fix.

@GT All Day, what are you talking about? Georgia Tech is a BUNCH of cheaters and has already been FOUND GUILTY of NCAA violations. Our name and reputation at Miami will be cleared in the end. Miami has better academics, beaches, and real girls on campus (not blow up dolls). And we whooped that tail in football vs Georgia Tech this year. A BLOWOUT. CHEATERS NEVER WIN!

Recruiting at GTECH, have a kid that wants to play there and can’t get his test scores high enough to be admitted and a kid reserving a spot until something better(?) comes along. If CPJ can continue to win 8-10 games with this being the norm we need to back him 100%. Need to stick with your “commitment” Antonio.

Well, as long as young Antonio realizes he can get in line behind the already awesome talent at Miami at running back and then of course 4 star Greg Bryant who is a strong sign for Miami’s 2013 class.

5 star Randy Johnson
4 star Eduardo Clements
4 star Storm Johnson

Good luck getting playing time in their scheme…

I say cut him loose now. He obviously has character and commitment issues that may only get worse with time. That said, Miami is perfect for him. We have plenty of up and coming DB’s with talent.

Were those up-can-coming DBs in BDS@HGF this past November when GT lost to Muttville for the 3rd straight yr.?

Murray wasn’t really sharp that day and he still had WRs & TEs running wide open all day, had UGA not called of the dogs they could have score 50-60 points that day.

Our Secondary is one of the weaker units on GT’s FB Team, but most teams run the ball so easily, that they have no reason to challenge the DBs.

Utah’s BACK-UP QB was horrible, but when he needed to get yds. in the passing game he found GT’s DBs to be no problem at all.

Our DBs are thought of much too highly by our Fanbase, were GT to play a season in the Big-12 you.d see how weak our DBs are, but we are lucky to play in the ACC that has some of the worst QB-play among all the BCS AQ conferences.

As much as I hate losing the talent, I don’t want a kid that doesn’t want GT. He doesn’t know what it is to be a man yet. I wish him the best of luck, but I don’t think he’ll be seeing the field much in Miami. If Miami doesn’t give an offer, I hope he enjoys FIU.

“CHEATERS NEVER WIN”
Miami is an example of this, despite their cheating, always having a great recruiting class, and preseason expectations of this being the year to turn it a round, It never seams to work out for them. Resent years make Chan Gailey look like an overachiever.

Let them enjoy it a little. I still feel good about our class an looks like CPJ is finishing the drill, leaving nothing to chance.

I think Tech’s secondary played okay considering they were all first year starters and very young. Five of the eight on two-deep were underclassmen and we only lose one starter. They were in the middle of the ACC in pass defense and I think that they would have done better if we could have gotten more pressure on the QB.

A commitment is a commitment and these kids (and their parents) are old enough to understand that. He has taken one of our spots for months and just now decides to take an “official” visit. I am sure Coach Johnson explained his position to him when he commited to GT. I think it’s time to remind him of that policy, in case he is just that arrogant, or dense. If he still takes the visit, revoke the offer, no questions. A kid’s commitment to the school is just as important as the school’s commitment to the kid.

I have great respect for those student athlete’s that take their commitment seriously, none for those that do not.

It’s no secret that Paul Johnson will rescind an offer in situations like this. It’s quite possible that the kid knows that- maybe he’s trying to get out of the commitment to GT for some reason.

Moobs may have to abandon his double standard re visits to other schools by commits. They talk these high school junior kids into “on the spot” commits when they have them all geeked up at some camp or other Tech event, and then expect them not to look at any other options. How do the kids know they really want to come to Tech if they haven’t seen what else is out there? Wouldn’t you WANT them to choose your school above the others after comparing? THAT is a REAL commitment. Maybe CPJ is afraid to have the kids do a true comparison.

George Stein

He hasn’t gone anywhere yet, Gorilla. But if he does, I’m sure it will be retracted.

Try considering the average star rank of our recruits, gtkenz, and you’ll find that we are 31st nationally. This is a better measure of a class because it eliminates the bias in favor of bigger classes.

Tech Insider

Hahaha!!! -

You have no clue what you’re talking about. If Crawford visits Miami this weekend, he will no longer have an offer from GT. The policy is in place for all commits. The kid definitely has a decision to make. Miami has 31 commits (including 7 DB’s), so there is still some doubt that he will receive an offer from Miami. A decision Antonio will need to make between now and Friday morning.

Let’s clear up some facts on CPJ’s policy shall we?

1. CPJ does not encourage kids to make a commitment until they are 100% sure GT is the right place for them.
2. CPJ encourages kids to visit other schools before making a commitment.

I’m pretty sure that’s a policy most coaches believe in. The school is making a commitment to take the kid (if they can cut it academically), so the kid should honor his commitment made to the school.

With that said, I’m in the boat of letting kids take other visits. I also believe if a kid makes a visit post commitment, that a staff of any school can tell a kid “OK you can visit other schools, but you may no longer have a spot here if we receive another commitment.” That policy would really make a kid think about the decision he’s about to make.
