One of Georgia State’s top commitments, quarterback Trent Thompson, confirmed to the AJC that he will be signing with the Panthers next week.
The star quarterback from McEachern High School took an official visit to Tennessee Tech a couple of weeks ago and had also sparked the curiosity of several other schools.
“There were rumors out there, and some of the rumors had some truth in them,” Thompson said. “But I’m going to Georgia State in the fall. I’m ready to go compete for the quarterback job and help this program win. I’ve quit looking at other schools because Georgia State is where I want to be and where God wants me to be.”

We can only hope. He has a great opportunity because the position will be wide open over the next couple years.

Oh thank God. We all know the screw tightening that Tenn Tech can do. This program really is moving in the right direction. Tenn Tech wanted this guy, walked him to the line, but in the end, he chooses Georgia State with a slight edge over Tenn Tech. This feels good, guys. Bask in it. We should be awared an official ‘win’ for this. We beat Tenn Tech for our ultimate prized recruit.

Winning
Battling Tenn Tech for your QB of the future is a sign that this program is ready for bigger, better things.

Glad to hear it. He’ll do fine at either school. Would have liked to have seen him in the OVC but I understand. Good luck, hit the books and make plays.

Tenn tech is a great school that won the ovc this year and played in the playoffs. Interested to see how Thompson performs.

Dear Trent: As a man who has a personal relationship with coach Curry, I can tell you I am thrilled you have chosen to come to GSU.
I can also tell you unequivocally that god doesn’t give a fart where you go to school or whether you ever take another snap.
I am the only man who ever walked the earth about whom god cares.
Don’t believe the lies.
It’s all about Me.

I’m sure he’ll be glad to add to the history of quarterbacks at Georgia State: guys who have been arrested, suspended and kicked off the team. Seriously, go look it up.

Yo Hey? What happened to that Starr Jones guy that was supposed to be the next great QB? I noticed he was just gone from one season to the next.
Any way, good luck Panthers.

Congrats, Trent! Tough decision for a young man to make…but it’ll just be one of the many you’ll make in life. I remember you having to make another tough one back before your freshman year, and it turned out remarkably well…thanks for the great memories you and all of those in this talented MHS class of 2012 have given us in all sports through the years. In 4 months, you’ll all walk to the podium in the middle of Cantrell Stadium, shake Ms. Montgomery’s hand as she hands you your diploma, and become known as an OMacG. It’s an ELITE fraternity, bro!

This morning around 8:30 Tennessee Tech offered Thompson an opportunity to play in Cookville. Not sure how this will turn out, both Quality schools with Quality coaches. I wish the best for ya kid!

Not sure what he meant by GOD…. Maybe that meant good old dad. Hopefully he has more conviction towards his religion than his commitments here on earth. Good luck @ TTU.
