DE Sheldon Rankins
Sheldon Rankins, one of the state’s top defensive ends, committed to Louisville during an in-home visit on Tuesday night.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder from Eastside-Covington High School committed to Louisville over Wake Forest, among his 26 scholarship offers.
“They brought coaches in and spent time with my family,” Rankins told the AJC. “I was already leaning towards Louisville. I had heard from other people that they might move me inside to defensive tackle, but they assured me that I’m their guy at defensive end. That’s all I needed to hear.
“I made it look like I was going to the bathroom, but I went and got this Louisville hat I had already bought. I came back out with the hat on and everybody went crazy after that.”
Last summer, Rankins was leaning toward committing to North Carolina before the Tar Heels were accused of NCAA violations. Rankins also had serious interest from Auburn until suffering a hairline fracture last season and missing his final two games.

3 star kid. #32 DE in the country, #42 player in the state. 255 (Rivals says 260) with a 4.6 40. Gotta wonder why GT didn’t offer him as an OLB/DE type. It ain’t grades, otherwise Vandy and nearly every ACC school – including Duke – wouldn’t have offered. He is a higher rated recruit than the DE that GT has committed from Maryland, and is also 10 lbs. bigger. I have no idea what GT is doing, but I can no longer support this staff recruiting lesser athletes from out of state than kids who have the grades and want to come to GT. This kid should be going to GT, not Louisville. Sorry. CPJ has got to go.

Gerald = The first intelligent Tech fan I’ve come across on here!! CPJ has been horrible at recruiting since his arrival. Running that program into the ground.
