QB Kyle Sloter switched his commitment from Tulane to Southern Miss on Monday night.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound quarterback from Mt. Pisigah Christian committed to Tulane last October before the college went through a coaching change. Sloter said that Tulane’s new staff would honor his commitment to the previous coaches but that he could look at options, too.
Sloter liked what he saw at Southern Miss on an official visit this past weekend.
“I’ve thought about it a lot, and I’ve decided that Southern Miss is the right place for me,” Sloter said.
“The coaches were with me every second on my visit and really made me feel wanted there. With the situation at QB, the job is up in the air. I may have the chance to go in there and compete for it. If not, then I’ll learn a lot of football while trying. And I’ll be playing for a good team that goes to a lot of bowl games.”
Sloter, who also had flirtations with Mississippi State, was recruited to Southern Miss by offensive coordinator Ricky Bustle, who offered him a scholarship last fall when he was QB coach at Tulane.
