QB-DB Chris Moody picks Vanderbilt over South Carolina

There were two surprises about Chris Moody’s commitment to Vanderbilt on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder from Henry County High School pledged to Vanderbilt after taking an official visit to the SEC school this weekend, according to ESPN.

The first surprise was that Vanderbilt beat out South Carolina, which was considered the longtime frontrunner for Moody. He also took official visits to Central Florida and South Florida.

The second surprise was that Vanderbilt may let Moody play QB. That was his high school position but many schools – including Vanderbilt, at first – recruited Moody as an “athlete” to play WR or DB.

“I think Vanderbilt is an outstanding academic institution and that coach James Franklin does a real good job up there,” Henry County coach Mike Rozier said. “So I believe Chris will proper in both area, academically and athletically, by playing in the SEC under James Franklin.

“Chris is a phenomenal athlete. At first, Vanderbilt was recruiting Chris as a DB or safety.  But when they saw more of his highlight tape, they were like ‘Wow. Holy Cow. We might give him a shot over there on offense.’ Chris is so versatile. He’s a guy who can play QB, slot WR, DB and safety.”

Elliott to be at Dillon Friday
By Phil Kornblut

USC offensive line coach Shawn Elliott has already landed a commitment from one of Dillon’s big two offensive linemen for 2013 in DJ Park. Now, he’s focusing on Bryce King and will be at the school Friday. King picked up offers this week from Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He also has offers from Clemson, LSU, North Carolina and NC State. King said Thursday night Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell has taken over recruiting his area for former assistant Kevin Steele, and he talked on the phone with Caldwell Thursday night. Tennessee was by the school earlier in the week. King said he will attend Clemson’s junior day January 28th, one at Tennessee in February and the junior day at USC. He has no favorite, and he said Park’s commitment to USC does not affect him though they have talked about playing together. King said he would make his decision about midway thru his senior season

Congrats to this kid – hope he has a very successful career.

I do not think we offered him yet, but we were certainly on that path.

Big Dawg – pretty bold talk from a fan of a school that has lost the last 2 games played against South Carolina – with Garcia as the QB.

This is the dogs time of year, ask any pup fan, they are likely national champions every February. Don’t ask them when was the last time they beat a good team, 2006?, 2005?
Not exactly a genuis fan base if you know what I mean, lol.

NO, the Mike Rozier at Henry County High School is NOT the Mike Rozier of Nebraska lore. Different race for one thing. By the way, Rozier was fired at Henry and they’re still interviewing to fill his vacancy. Rozier should land somewhere soon, too good a coach not to!

Franklin telling the kid what he wants to hear. He will sign with Vandy, then be gone after one year.

Great decision. Although the Chickens try to say otherwise, USC has no tradition, AND a terrible academic history with their football players. Vandy has a program on the rise and one of the best educations in America. That degree is worth a lot

Great decision. Although the Dawgs try to say otherwise, UGA is on the downswing, AND a terrible history of underachievement with their football players. Vandy has a program on the rise and one of the best educations in America. That degree is worth a lot
