Florida DB Lynn Griffin commits to Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson made a big impression on a Florida safety.

Lynn Griffin of Jacksonville committed to the Yellow Jackets on Thurday, one day after Johnson offered a scholarship.

“It’s a good combination of academics and athletics,” Griffin said. “I think a degree from Georgia Tech will carry a lot of weight. And the networking will be outstanding, as far as having connections after college, in case football at the next level does not work out.”

The 6-foot, 206-pounder was committed to Southern Miss until the coaching change.Griffin picked Georgia Tech over offers from Wake Forest, Southern Miss and Troy.

Griffin felt confident about a scholarship offer since his performance at Georgia Tech’s camp last summer.

“It was the other I was waiting on,” Griffin said. “I pretty knew they were going to offer. When I left camp last summer, they told me an offer would be coming once they looked at my transcript after first semester. They wanted to check on that, rather to make an offer and then have to pull it back.”

Griffin said he has a 3.4 GPA and will major in Business at Georgia Tech. He is one of three prospects that will make official visits this weekend, along with kicker/punter Ryan Rodwell of DeLand, Fla., and lineman Adam Gotsis of Australia. (Yes, Australia … go here to read more)

Why did Griffin commit so quickly? Or why didn’t he wait until he visited Georgia Tech this weekend? “I’ve already been there five times for games, tours or camps,” Griffin said. “I’ve got family in Atlanta. I’d seen enough to know it’s the right place for me.”

Griffin is commitment No. 16 for Georgia Tech’s recruiting class. The Yellow Jackets are expected to sign 17-18 total.

UPDATE: Paul Johnson was not at Grffin’s house on Thursday night, as we were told by Griffin and originally reported. A couple of Georgia Tech assistants made the in-home visit. ANOTHER UPDATE: Griffin told the AJC that Johnson was on speaker phone while the assistant coaches were at his house.

Does Rodwell have an offer as well? I would think Tech would want to save a space for Tomlinson, unless CPJ has some inside info that Tech isn’t on his radar anymore.

slydog, you seem to sneer at Wake? Why? Great School, nothing wrong in my opinion. Southern Miss. is not bad either. Education is a good thing. Besides, what would Headley say about your denigration of Troy?

Well if Adam is 6′5 and @ 295lbs he can player OL or DL. He’ll need to be coached up but I like it. I like Aussies. They’re good people. I bet he’s tough as nails.

I’m Dawg fan and kid looks like he plays physical. He also looks like he plays with little fire which can’t be rated. I also like seeing both in state schools do well and recruit good student athletes. Congrats

Feel free to go after the big boys every so often, you’re in a big boy school now CPJ, if I can even call Tech that now…

Is TECH the PREseason National Champ like the UGa Dwags? No! Is Tech working on having a good team? YES! Is Tech like BAMA lying to kids just for sports? No! Will he get a GREAT EDUCATION(if he chooses to take it)? YES!

Welcome to “The FLATS” Mr. Griffin!!!!! We will cheer you and get mad at you for your mistakes on & off the field, but We will not turn our backs on you if you life your life right. Work hard and be Blessed.

UGA won the services of Greg Pyke over the likes of South Alabama, Louisville, Wake, Duke, Rutgers, & Tulane.

They acquired Quayvon Hicks over an all-star cast of Duke, Vandy, & Tennessee, & Louisville.

WR Blake Scott was procured in spite of stiff competition from Kentucky, Wake, Arksansas…STATE, UCF, MTSU, and, ironically, Southern Miss.

Shall I continue?

Georgia Tech should really take a look into leaving the ACC and maybe just drop football all together. CPJ and DRAD is running the ramblin wreck in the ditch. Im going to feel sorry for whatever coach they hire after next season ! it is going to take atleast 3 years to get out of this garbage that CPJ has done. I have a bad taste in my mouth when i think about the future at Georgia Tech. FIRE THIS GD CLOWN!

Griffin welcome to the flats and ignore the haters. To those that don’t know Griffin played three positions in high school during most games so I would not expect him to be rated to high. He impressed a lot of people at camp, but Shumate was the main target for safety. For those worried about Tomlinson he was told GT would hold a spot for him right up to signing day. Maybe CPJ does not need a scouting service to tell him if a kid can play or not.

IHATEUGA 1990, CPJ Recruits, Rick James, Yellow Britches and Ramblin Man—its good to see some realistic individuals on this site—–PJ does recruit like hes still at Ga Southern. As for George Stein–Okie Dawg is blowing smoke up you. You are probably the fellow that sits on the front row waving your GT pennant and bragging on Bill Lewis and Bill Fulcher–wake up, they are gone and its a new age, we need a coach that has an attractive offense to attract the big name kids.
