Josh Harvey-Clemons still has two official visits left, but his grandfather is predicting “a photo finish” between UGA and Florida.
Harvey-Clemons is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound linebacker from Lowndes High School who may be the state’s top uncommitted prospect. He made an unofficial visit to UGA over the weekend.
“It’s going to be a photo finish between Florida and Georgia, as I told Coach Bobo before we left,” said Harvey-Clemons’ grandfather, Woodrow Clemons, told the AJC.
“The visit to Georgia went well, really well. They wanted a commitment for us before we left. And we stood firm. We’re not going to commit until Feb. 1.”
That’s because JHC has two official visits remaining: to Florida State on Jan. 20 and Louisville on Jan. 27. This weekend’s trip to UGA was his first since traveling to Florida last month.
Harvey-Clemons has said repeatedly that UGA and Florida are his co-leaders.
“I’d probably rate the Georgia visit as an 8,” his grandfather said. “They showed us a good time and did an excellent job of presenting what they had to offer.”
What about the Florida visit? “I would give them about an 8, too. Academically, they both have similar programs. There’s nothing distinctly different about Florida and Georgia at this point. I think Josh’s decision will boil down to the sincerity of the coaches and the opportunity he will have to play once his gets there.”
Since the death of Josh’s parents, his grandfather has raised him as his own. Here were some other comments from his grandfather on the UGA visit:
Note: Harvey-Clemons and Henry County DT Dalvin Tomlinson are considered to be the state’s top uncommitted prospects. Georgia Tech is rumored to have inside position on Tomlinson, who is scheduled to make a rare midweek visit to UGA on Monday.
