One of Georgia’s top running backs remains committed to Ole Miss but will visit North Carolina this weekend.
Mike Hilton, a 5-foot-9, 180-pounder from Sandy Creek High School, committed last summer to Ole Miss, which recently changed coaches. North Carolina contacted him this week about visiting.
“I took an official visit in October to Southern Miss, and now those coaches are at North Carolina,” Hilton told the AJC. “They called me and asked to visit. As of right now, North Carolina has not offered. They told me they had to go off the old coaching staff and honor the previous commitments. They are going to see what those recruits are going to do and see if any slots open up.”
What does Hilton think about North Carolina? “I hear a lot of good things about them. It’s a great academic school, first and foremost. They’re bringing in winning coaches and are sending a ton of players to the NFL.”
Hilton said it “opened his eyes” when North Carolina said they were recruiting him to play RB, as opposed to an “athlete” by Ole Miss. “I want to be all over the field helping out my team, but I do feel that running back is my most natural position,” he said.
Last week, Hilton finally met with Ole Miss’ new coach, Hugh Freeze. “We talked face-to-face for the first time during my in-home visit,” Hilton said. “He was excited that I stuck with them through the whole coaching change.”
Is Hilton’s commitment still solid with Ole Miss? “Yes, I’m committed there. I taking my official visit to Ole Miss on Jan. 20. Right now, everything is still the same. I’m signing there.”
