UGA LB target Josh Harvey-Clemons clarifies comments about Florida

Josh Harvey-Clemons prediction?

Josh Harvey-Clemons, the AJC Super 11 linebacker from Lowndes High School, freely admits that he said Florida was his leader this week. But there was a reason for it.

“I was asked if I had to pick one school as my leader, which one would it be … I said Florida because that’s the only official visit I’ve taken so far; I’ll take the rest of them after Saturday’s game,” Harvey-Clemons told the AJC.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder is one of six Georgia seniors playing in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl at 1 p.m. Saturday (televised by NBC).

Before Harvey-Clemons leaves the Texas after the all-star game, he said is supposed to meet at his hotel with UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who recruits South Georgia for the Bulldogs.

Harvey-Clemons, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 outside linebacker by ESPN, has official visits scheduled with UGA on Jan. 13, Florida State on Jan. 20 and LSU sometime after that.

Does he have a real leader? “Florida and Georgia are probably at the top for me right now,” Harvey-Clemons said. “Florida is close to home, and I feel like I have a chance to play early there. Same goes for Georgia. I have some players from my area up there, and I can get some early playing time, too.”

Perhaps the ultimate compliment to Harvey-Clemons’ athleticism is that he was offered scholarships at both outside linebacker and wide receiver. That’s an unusual combination of projected positions, as opposed to LB/TE or WR/DB. Alabama and South Florida offered at WR, while the rest prefer him on defense.

“Florida and Georgia are recruiting me as an outside linebacker but both told me that when I get there, they would give me a chance to play wide receiver to see what I could do.”

What position does Harvey-Clemons prefer to play in college? “I really don’t know yet because we ran the Wing-T offense at Lowndes. I had to make a living on defense. Most schools have recruited me at outside linebacker. But I don’t know … I don’t have a preference of position yet.”

Some people have questioned if Harvey-Clemons is serious about Louisville. UL, at least in football, traditionally does not have a lot of luck recruiting against SEC schools.

“Louisville is right up there with the rest of them,” Harvey-Clemons said. “No, they’re not in the SEC but it’s no big deal. I feel like I have a chance to play early at Louisville. I like coach [Charlie Strong] a lot. I feel like they are building a strong program. My roommate at the all-star game has committed to Louisville and has talked to me a lot about coming there.”

Harvey-Clemons has plenty of time to think about his college decision. He decided against committing on national TV on Saturday because he wasn’t ready. “I’m going to wait until I take all my visits. When I finish doing that, I think I’m going to have it pretty much figured out that’s where I want to go.”

Are you serious? The SEC East was trash this year, and Georgia didn’t exactly draw the toughest teams from the West. Add together the records of teams who Georgia beat this year and it’s something like 50-65. Then add together the conference records of the SEC teams who they beat and it’s even worse, something like 14-40. Tough sched, DAWG. Stop using your conference as a crutch, especially when its current reputation as the toughest conference in America is built on the accomplishments of other teams.

UGA sucks, struggled to heat a bad UF team and beat up on a weak SEC east and got abused by LSU!!! UGA record is due to playing bad teams

He will be a good player no matter where he lands. I think he will go to the team that can use him immediately, as he doesn’t appear to want to stay on the sidelines, if he feels he can start and help a team.
I think UGA could utilize him pretty much from the moment he gets on the team.

Bad Dawg, I know Bama never runs out of room but they have 24 at least verbal commits now. I know they can count backwards and gray shirt and give Bear’s descendants scholarships that don’t count.

i guess all UGA fans have to hang their hat on is the SEC since they can’t do anything on their own!!! Hell their biggest rivals the Gators don’t even consider them their biggest rival!!! UGA beats the Gators once maybe twice a decade!!! Gators sucked this year and UGA still struggled to beat them!!!

How is Alabama still getting commitments? The cap on the amount of scholarship athletes a school can sign in a year is 25. They already have 26.

It’s Alabama; what else are they going to do? They spend more money on football than any other school. That extra commitment is just that, a verbal commitment. No one has signed yet. If they et extra signees, chances are Alabama will discuss with the recruits who will gray shirt and who will not.

True enough. But what about your Semis? They had a whopping 95 yards of offense against UF. 95 yards!?!?!? Would not have scored a single point if it wasn’t for 3 picks by Brantley. Your offense made UGA’s look like the Packers.

Go Gators!

Old Boy – re: Alabama recruits… Saban is a huge proponent of oversigning. He will probably have 30 signed recruits at signing day. Then he will determine which ones he will keep. I’m not a fan of oversigning, but Alabama, with their success, has the ability to pick the cream of the crop of athletes.

They & LSU will continue to rule the SEC & country because of the caliber of players is SO much better than anyone else. LSU proved it during the SEC Champ game. UGA’s starting 22 is no match for the depth of UA’s & LSU’s starting 44. They simply wear opponents down in the 3rd & 4th qtr.

Bad Dawg: Remaining spots, best anyone can tell are Jenkins, Eddie Goldman and Jameis Winston. Lots of chatter that JM will flip from FSU at the end, but we’ll see. Landon Collins was a very big one. The stuff he’s getting from in-state now is indefensible.

@Foot up- Ithink the pounded-pups think the ship leaves out of athens trailer park loaded with talent.

Most of these commits will go elsewhere.

I also think Florida and CWM will rebound back to #1 in sec east.

Much like I think the party’s over verses GT. Mark my word, CPJ is a brilliant offensive mind.

Cadawg… Saban is just ridiculous when it comes to recruiting. To flip 5* Yeldon from the barn was one thing but getting 5* Collins right out from under LSU is just a whole new level.

Baddawg…. I agree with Browndog. Have heard from sources Bama has lead for some time for Jenkins. UF and UGA dispatching coaches for one last ditch effort speaks volumes as well. I think they know he is all Bama. That being said, he is a smart young man with a great support system at home. I could see them making a “business” decision and going somewhere the depth chart is more inviting. Bama has a monster class at LB for ‘12 and has NFL lock Rueben Foster commited for ‘13. My prediction today is Bama. If I hear differnt I will pass it on.
