Will UGA try to go after Georgia's No. 1 RB? Mike Davis did a back flip after scoring on this play (AJC)

Will UGA try to recruit the RB who some say is No. 1 in Georgia?

Stephenson High School’s Mike Davis abruptly de-committed to the Florida Gators on Sunday night – nearly a year after committing to the SEC school.

“Things happened; there was a misunderstanding with the Florida coaches,” Davis told the AJC. “I can’t comment on what went wrong. It just wasn’t meant to be. Some things happened, and I don’t want to comment on what happened.”

Should UGA try to recruit Mikey?

The 5-foot-9, 200-pound Davis seemed stoic when talking about the shocking development. “I’m not feeling any emotions about it. It’s over with [Florida].”

Davis, also said this on Twitter, which may or may not have to do with Florida:

“It’s funny when you look a coach in the eye [and] see right through the B.S. [they] be [feeding] you.”

What’s next for Davis? He said he is in the process of setting up official visits to Florida State, South Carolina, Alabama and Miami. He made a recruiting trip to Tennessee this weekend.

“It will all work itself out by signing day,” Davis said.

What about UGA? The Bulldogs are looking to sign at least two running backs, with the North Carolina duo of Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley as the top two targets. However, given UGA’s alarming problems at RB, it’s very possible that they will try to sign more than two.

Marshall, ranked as the No. 1 RB in the nation by Scout.com, will announce on Tuesday. UGA coach Mark Richt and assistant Bryan McClendon made an in-home visit to Marshall on Sunday night.

“Georgia has never let me know how they feel about me, so I don’t know how I would feel about Georgia,” Davis said. “It’s a good school. If they called, I would listen to what they had to say.”

Also don’t count out Georgia Tech, which showed heavy interest in Davis last spring.

Davis, the younger brother of former Clemson RB James Davis, rushed for 1,923 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior at Stephenson.

  • JT Blasingame, the speedy DB from Mays High School, committed to Rice on Sunday. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder picked Rice over Air Force and Western Michigan, and also had serious interest from Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Wake Forest. “I visited Rice this weekend, and I got a good feeling about the school and the Houston area,” Blasingame said. He has a 3.3 GPA and plans to major in Engineering or Mathematics. He finished his senior year with 88 tackles, 2 interceptions and 13 pass breakups.
  • It will be a busy week for Banneker DB Chaz Elder. He has in-home visits with coaches from UGA, South Carolina and Arkansas on back-to-back-to-back days. Elder will have a delayed arrival for his official visit this weekend to UGA because he is taking the ACT on Saturday morning. South Carolina is considered the school to beat for Elder.
  • UGA’s streak of 10 straight years of finishing in the Top 10 of the Rivals.com is in jeopardy. They are No. 22 with this year’s class. Will they make up enough ground to crack the Top 1o? Go here to vote
  • Basketball: Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski quietly slipped into Atlanta on Friday night to make yet another personal appearance to scout Miller Grove High School power forward Tony Parker, who is Georgia’s top uncommitted prospect. The 6-9, 280-pound Parker is rumored to have Duke and Ohio State as his frontrunners, while also considering UCLA and Memphis.

Davis made a trip to Knoxville this weekend. Said he really enjoyed it. So, will it be between UT, FSU, and SC?

Go to SCAR. Beat the entire SEC East and take turns running w/ Marcus Lattimore. Oh, and have the 4th best D in the nation to allow you to get 10 wins. Next year’s WRs are top flight so join one of the top 4 teams in the SEC…top 10 team in the country.

And ignore the jealous UGA fans that will spout lies after this post. They are just pissed cause SCAR has beaten UGA 2 games in a row…

Forgive me for not being excited about the states #1 RB leaving FLA to UGA, but I’ve see all the little backs I care to see for a while. We need sturdy, bigger backs as opposed to the smallish ones

Jeffrey and Gilmore will probably leave for the NFL, and Ingram graduates, as does tide roll pin up Watkins, so I don’t think that SC is bringing back as much as you think next years…

Georgia hasn’t been doing so great in selectng running backs. They need to be very careful to avoid getting another egotistical thug.

    Mike,
You saw the RB situation last night at the Dome. You can come and get immediate playing time. If you can at least break a little bit of an arm tackle, which you can, according to that highlight above, then we can us you in Athens. Come play for the Home State Dawgs. UT is in disarray, S. Carolina is a flash in the pan, they will be back down where the belong before long, and Alabama will be back on probation soon.
    Come to UGA!

It wouldn’t hurt for CMR to offer Mr. Davis, but it sounds like the Dawgs are in better shape with Marshall and Gurley.

5′9″ running backs are ok as long as they weigh 215lbs+. Send all of the little fast running backs to the ACC, Big 12 and Pac 12 or whatever it is now. For Christmas I want THREE running backs like LSU’s. LSU’s freshman back that ran over Boykin twice is listed at 5′11″ and 240lbs. Let me have THREE if them Santa. Let little Keith Marshall go and run fast some where else.

We need to sign Marshall, Gurley and Davis. That would give us the 4 horsemen we need and give us quality depth at RB just like LSU. Thing is, I don’t want Crowell apart of that horsemen stable. I want it to be Malcome, Marshall, Gurley, and Davis. Come on Richt!

Do we need another 5′9 RB? We need one that can pound the ball up the middle. This is the SEC. Enough of these finesse backs.

Not to mention we’ll have Samuel back next season at 100%. He’s 6′2, 240. He’s our physical back. I think he should be the go to guy next season. The starter. Sprinkle in Marshall, Gurley, etc. This Davis guy seems to have good lateral movement and great ability to break tackles.

Barry Sanders wasn’t tall. Richardson is only 5′11. So you don’t have to be that tall. I just want them big. Like 225-230.

Okay, then I’ll say enough of these 5′9 195 lb RB’s. We need some beef. Look at LSU. All of them were studs that can pound you. Samuel is our biggest back but he runs too upright.

Where is TampaGator? UF had 2 guys transfer last week. Now their top target at RB is de-committing. Apparently everything is not rosy at UF like he would have you believe. I think they all see the writing on the wall with Muschamp. He is a career assistant not a head coach.

Mike Davis will be over 210 by the time he gets on Campus. He will be just what the Dawgs need. 5′9 and Powerfull. Judging from this year, UGA aint looking to pound the ball or else Malcome would have gotten more carries instead of putting in the 160 and 170 lb backs.”SMDH”

@ p. Bull terrier- I think mike Thornton was the last one. There was a blog earlier this year that suggested that Stephenson’s doesn’t really let UGA recruit its players. Its been a while now, but Stephenson had a really high ranked DB who had an offer from UGA THEN THEY pulled it back. He went on to play at Arkansas.
