Will nation’s top RB Keith Marshall commit to UGA on Dec. 6?

Keith Marshall prediction?

After all of UGA’s troubles at running back this season, it has become a top priority in recruiting.

There may be some good news on the way for the Bulldogs. Keith Marshall, who is ranked as the No. 1 RB in the country by Scout.com, announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he will be making his college decision on Dec. 6.

UGA is rumored to have a slight edge over Clemson for the 5-star running back from Raleigh, N.C. Marshall also has Notre Dame, Florida and South Carolina listed as his finalists, and will make his final official visit with the Gamecocks this weekend.

“Keith has handled his recruiting as well as any high-profile recruit I’ve ever covered; he’s played everything real quiet,” said Rusty Mansell, National Recruiting Analyst for 247sports.com.

“From everyone I’ve talked to around Keith’s situation, it sounds like Georgia is in pretty good shape. But he’s got another visit to take and it’s not over.”

UGA will likely sign two running backs this year, with Marshall as the top target. The Bulldogs are recruiting the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Marshall with the same type of priority and urgency status they gave to Isaiah Crowell last year.

“Just like with Isaiah Crowell, Georgia got in early with Keith Marshall and let him know he was a priority for this recruiting class,” Mansell said. “With Isaiah Crowell, it was very clear how important he was to Georgia. There was not another committable offer out there to a running back, except for Isaiah Crowell. It was either hit or miss. Georgia has made Keith Marshall a clear target this year, and they’ve been on him just has hard as they were with Isaiah Crowell.”

What other RB would UGA like to sign this February? Another North Carolina product, Todd Gurley (6-1, 195) of Tarboro, N.C. It was a good sign for UGA when Gurley returned to Athens last weekend for an unofficial to watch the Kentucky game. Gurley and Marshall both took official visits to UGA for the South Carolina game. Gurley will announce his college decision on Jan. 3.

“Georgia and North Carolina are on top for him and have been for awhile, with Clemson  and NC State trailing those two,” Mansell said. “Whatever happens at North Carolina, with whomever they hire as coach, that’s probably going to make or break his college decision.”

Amazing video of a high school senior from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was successful on 54 of 54 attempts this season….100%. Now he needs a college team.

Watch for yourself…it is unreal!

Crowell banged up running in the SEC. Only 1freshman made it thru unscaved ( #34); even Latty was banged frosh year. Now fans yearning for an even smaller back. SEC requires a mature bodied back to take the league’s pounding.

@Marshall / Jones / Davis

“if you are reading this, Keith, I hope you will consider signing for a team where you won’t be expected to perform miracles from day one, but will be given the opportunity to do so by your sophomore season. Come play for the University of Florida.

Go Gators!”

He won’t be expected to perform miracles from day one? That’s what Florida will need to have any shot of winning the division over the next few years. A miracle. Keith Marshall won’t go to Florida because he, like everyone else, knows, that Charlie Weiss has proven nothing since not having superman .. errr … Tom Brady throwing the ball. Driskel is no Tom Brady.

We’ll need both of these young men, plus another RB from South Ga. I’m afraid we’ve seen the last of Frostproof, and I would bet even money IC1 won’t be eligible for the bowl game. In any event, 2012 will be an upgrade.

I can’t believe there are only two… now three, people who understands what it takes to play RB at the D1 level. We are talking about an 18 year old freshman!!! How many true freshman RB have started from day one this season compared to how many signed LOI’s in 2011? What about Ken “Boo” Malcome, a redshirt freshman? Is he injured? How many carries, yards, and touches does he have in his entire career? BTW, Garrison Hearst, #2 alltime at RB, went 162 for 717 and 5 TD’s his freshman year. His back ups were Larry Ware and Mack Strong.(fb). So stop this trash talking nonsense. Oh my gosh, isn’t that the same thing you guys accuse Crowell of?….lol

Yeah, and your source is much better than everyone else’s. I mean surely, with Rusty Mansell’s Twitter prowess, there’s no way he catches on to that tweet before you you crusty rumor spreader. Nice try though. It’s BS, but nice try.

Another thing. Marshall is being pitched as a compliment / change of pace RB to Crowell, not a replacement. He is an “all-purpose back”, not a between the hashes runner. Think “Warrick Dunn” lite. His addition to the offense will add another dimension that Richt hasn’t had since FSU. However, Dunn never had a Crowell-like talent at FSU. UGA still needs to add maybe 2 more “sturdy” RB’s in order to fully replenish the position. At a minimum, Marshall will provide the “slash and burn” that Carlton Thomas and Caleb King never provided.

first of all i would like to say to stop bashing isaiah crowell. He has great talent and has been huge for us this year. People are saying keith marshall will replace isaiah cuz he is a wimp? That is not the case. Isaiah was playin AA ball last year and he will adjust. Plus a ankle and rib injury is reallly hard to play with. I know if you have a rib injury it hurts just to breathe let alone take a hit from a 240 sec linebacker. Keith marshall will come to uga to make a two headed attack that will be scary for opponents. Todd gurley will follow marshall to uga. He will probs get redshirted unless he is an absolute stud which is possible. Uga fans dont give up on crowell! he will be toughened up and get in shape after a full offseason. Im excited to see the Isaiah crowell (balanced)/keithmarshall (speed) / todd gurley (balanced) / derrick henry (uga commit for 2013 power)combination

Marshall will get a chance to see these two teams live next Sept when he is on the Cock sideline breathing s sigh of relief that he signed with a team that has excellent coaches that coach players up to their next level of performance. No offense to Ga, he doesn’t want to have a college degree that provides nothing!

you talk strait up my man!! I agree with you about Crowell. He has no heart, no tuffness and is a show boat!!!! Can’t believe we made such a FUSS over him last year and he turns out as a premodona if there ever was one. We need a REAL TAILBACK that will carry the rock like a college player should. I wish you had him at BAMA.

I agree with you…BigDawg and dboy jones and others…Crowell will be bigger and stronger next year. He has done a great job this year. It seems to me that not only his attitude has changed but the entire team. I didn’t see them running their mouths the last few games as much as they did during the beginning of the season.

I also read that Marshall wanted to be able to share the load with someone like Crowell because he has aspirations to play in the NFL and knows in order to have a long career he needs to be able to share the load so he will last longer.

It would be nice if Marshall signed because Crowell cannot be depended on at this point, either because of durability issues or toughness issues.

With that said, Marshall appears to be a speed guy who can make a good cut. But he’s thin at 6′1″ and 195. Tall, thin runners make a big target, and 240 lb linebackers and 220 lb DBs in the SEC will run right through him if they can catch him, not to mention what a 280 lb DE would do to him.

The best running backs come in at under 6′ and over 200 lbs (Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, etc.). The only tall, lanky back I can remember being truly elite and having a long career without getting his skinny legs snapped was Eric Dickerson (6′3″). Marshall isn’t too tall at 6′1″ but he’d have to add at least 20 pounds and maintain his speed to be an SEC caliber back. If he can bulk up, keep his speed, and run through tackles, then he’d be a force.

I’m hoping he signs and can develop physically, because I’m starting to think Crowell won’t be on the field two years from now, and it won’t be because he left for the NFL.

IC HAS had an up and down year, but we would not be 9-2perfect without him. The old saying goes to whom much is given, much is required. It has probably taken him some adjusting to the college life and realistically he will face some more obstacles. But he is still 5thlearning in the SEC in ypg so I am grateful he came to UGA. My bigger concern is that IF Keith Marshall comes to UGA, we can runs plays for him similar to what Coach Kelly @ Oregon calls for D’Anthony Thomas. He is also an elusive shifty back who gets into space and takes advantage of his matchups. Considering that we are losing Boykin to graduation this year, he could be real special on kickoff and punt returns.
