Will UGA have the “Dream Team II” recruiting class this February?
We asked Mark Richt, the Georgia coach who oversaw the original “Dream Team” concept to recruit and sign some of the state’s top prospects from last year.
What about this year? Is it “Dream Team II”?
Richt paused for a couple of seconds and then said, “I think we’ll call this year’s group ‘the University of Georgia’s Dream Team.’ I thought we did well recruiting the state of Georgia last year. We want to do well with recruiting in our home state every year. We feel we’ll end up with another good group in February … they will be ‘they University of Georgia’s Dream Team.’”
UGA’s recruiting class for this year has nowhere near the star power from last year’s group, which was headlined by homegrown 5-star talents such as RB Isaiah Crowell of Columbus and DE Ray Drew of Thomasville, along with a dozen 4-stars (according to Rivals).
This year’s group? Nowhere near the star power, but there’s still time – with national signing day around two months away. UGA has 15 early commitments and will likely sign as many as 25 overall.
Who is the Hollywood leading man for this year’s class? The guy was the most star power is from Florida – 5-star offensive lineman John Theus of Jacksonville. UGA isn’t doing as well within the state for elite recruits and has only two 4-star commitments, AJC Super 11 DT Jonathan Taylor from Jenkins County and DE-LB Leonard Floyd from Dodge County.
The Bulldogs are hoping to add some big names down the stretch, including Keith Marshall of Raleigh, N.C., who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 RB. UGA is believed to be the frontrunner for Marshall, who also included Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, North Carolina and South Carolina in his finalists. Another North Carolina RB, Todd Gurley, made an unofficial visit to Georgia for Saturday’s win over Kentucky.
Some of UGA’s other top targets are OL Avery Young of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., along with many homegrown talents: AJC Super 11 DE Jordan Jenkins of Harris County (undecided), AJC Super 11 S-LB Josh Clemons of Lowndes, DE-LB Kenderius Whitehead of ML King (undecided), AJC Super 11 LB Dillon Lee of Buford (committed to Alabama) and AJC Super 11 LB Markuss Eligwe of Stone Mountain (committed to FSU).

@TeenageBravesFan, we DID win last year with our “Dream Team.” We beat the heck out of everybody in the Southeast for all the best recruits. Then with our “Dream Team” recruits, we WON the SEC East. UGA is not the Eagles. Quit being a hater. We are winners at UGA!!!!

Ronald Powell was the #1 recruit in the nation 2 years ago in California and was considered all world by all the recruitnics. Two years later and he is a below average defensive end/OLB for the Gators and hardly makes any plays in games. Recruiting rankings and the sensationalized recruiting process by reporters are for those who dream…..give me players, no matter the star ranking, that will make plays on Saturdays. How many plays did the great 5-star, Crowell, make this year? He can barely stay on the field.

Good post TampaGator; I do feel like sometimes recruiting is way overhyped, but in the end you still have to recruit the top players. Of course a lot of the success of these players depend on the coaching they get in college and the players surrounding them.

Crowell being injured does not in any way diminish the talent and skill he possesses. If you are not aware of how many great plays he as made this year you must not have been watching.
I do hope that the durability issues he has had is further encouragement to Keith Marshall and Gurley to come on down to Athens. . .you can never have too many talented RBs, as we have seen this year. And let us not forget that Crowell is a true freshman.
Malcolm Mitchell was injured and missed a few games, perhaps YOU think he is not up to par for that reason. Was Ogletree sub-standard when he was injured and missed several games? I DON’T THINK SO!
I think you are being short-sighted at best and more likely just a dim-witted goober gator.

I love isaiah but if Isaiah is going to be injury prone keith marshall will be a huge lift. Isaiah and keith marshall will be a great duo!!! Im not sure if we will get jordan jenkins even after a great visit but i think we will get the start power down the stretch and get another top 8 class!!! GO DAWGS

Crowell has All-World potential and talent but apparently the same heart as Gator DE Ronald Powell. I go to all UGA home games and it makes me sick when I see a running back with his ability continually take himself out of the game when he gets popped. Similar to last year’s semi final game against Calhoun. Brandon Harton has little talent but a heart the size of UGA, plus he apparently leaves the Bong alone.

USCe has some very good players so why didn’t they win them all?
A little realism never hurts. UGA had some luck with the FL and Aub year being down, but so did USCe with FL. and Aub.
Enjoy your win this year. It may just be a few before you win another.

The OFFENSIVE LINE Richt brought in last year is no “Dream Team”. It was ranked 9th in the Conference. This year’s is even worse. Why does Richt insist on annointing a dream team? What’s it’s based on? Each unit (QB, RB, WR, TE, DL, LB, DB, and OFFENSIVE LINE needs to be evaluated separately and on its own merits before any recruiting class is anointed a DREAM TEAM. We’ll see about “dream team” when you start trying to replace Bean Anderson and Cordy Glenn next year. If I were Crowell, I’d leave now. The kid’s future is going to be at risk trying to run behind “THE PRIVATE SCHOOL POSSE” Nothing ever changes at Georgia does it. Your success this year was based on the athletes playing on your offensive line, and you refuse to acknowledge it. you don’t want it this way. You fools would rather lose with Greg Pyke than win with BRANDON GREENE! Your descension back into mediocrity will be based on the talent you replace Anderson and Glenn with. Richt and Bobo need to sign a legitimate SEC caliber JUCO Right Tackle NOW! Dream team. What a croc.

Saban putting together his own Georgia “Dream Team”. Dakota Ball, Kenyan Drake, Brandon Greene, Adam Griffith, Dillion Lee, Justin Taylor and Geno Smith. All had UGA offers and 3 are considered by the AJC to be in the Super 11. Saban will finish off with Jordan Jenkins and has locked up the top two for 2013.
Something crazy to ponder. If UGA wins the SEC championship game and we have an SEC rematch for the National Title… UGA would not get a BCS bid. Only two bids per conference.

Let’s give Crowell a break. If any of you have ever had a rib or ankle injury you know it debilitates you dramatically and you’re not facing SEC defenses in whatever it is you do. Bottom line is that he is tremendously talented but seems to be growing into what it takes to be an SEC running back. That’s not a bad thing for a kid who just a year ago was doing the same in high school. Let’s see what transpires. P.S. UGA definately needs the Marshall kid or someone else to come in as Option 1-B if/when Crowell gets injured. Sounds like a great opportunity for Marshall.

Let’s start with the basics. People like TideRoll are losers (no offense but based on your comments some things are obvious). With that said, Nick Satan has proven himself to be a tremendous recruiter. Look at the two kids he really wanted this past year that signed with UGA. Crowell and Malcolm Mitchell. Both have contributed greatly as freshmen. The fact that Saban wanted them reinforces my contention that Saban might be the best talent evaluator in college football. I also agree that college football is won or lost on the offensive and defensive lines. UGA can sign all of the 5-Star running backs or receivers they want but without stout offensive and defensive lines it won’t mean jack. Look at this year. Georgia is winning because their defense has 2 350 pound nose guards who eat up at least 2 offensive linemen every play which allows their athletes at linebacker to make plays. Saban knows this but I’m not sure Richt and Bozo do. The whole key is the big ugly’s up front.

UGA in this next class needs:
2 QUALITY backs with some decent size.
We need about 5 or 7 HUGE linemen that can play as Frosh and a few to inventory ad Red Shirts and groom for the future
We need one really talented wide out and 3 decent quality to star quality LBs and two or three quality 6′1 corners and maybe 2 safeties in the 6′2″ 208 range.
A few D Ends would be wonderful and a few journeymen type of linemen that can also provide depth.
We need a punter and FG kicker and I do think we have them locked up.

Young seems to be he top OL recruit still on the board…And everyone keeps forgetting about Xavier Ward, who was hurt his senior year and redshirted this season…He will be back next year, as will Sterling Bailey as a DE/LB. I don’t usually bother responding to TR, but the fact of the matter is that we recruited Greene, Alexander, and Harris, but none were interested….Their position coach was changed at UGA between their junior and senior years, and we lost a lot of ground there…The CMR hot seat talk probably didn’t help either, and by the time they turned things around all three had committed elsewhere..such is life. And BTW, the race-baiting conspiracy theories are really becoming quite tiresome. Sure he needs to toughen up, but that will come in time. Do not comment on UGA players when you have all those 5 star and 4 star recruits over the last few years and have done nothing. Keith Marshall – RB – ranked #1, smart, humble, exactly what we need
Jordan Jenkins – DE – good character, great pass rusher
Josh Clemmons – Ath – let him play LB or WR based on skills and body development
Chaz Elder – S
Dvario Montgomery – WR – big target
Avery Young or other OT
Joseph Schelfo – C – Could be our next Ben Jones

Look at all the 5-star recruit’s that Texas, Southern Cal and Florida have signed the last 5 years and they are losing games left and right because they don’t have a great Quarterback. I am convinced that the Quarterback has got to be a great leader and be sound in every part of his game.
If Murray play’s GT or the SEC championship game like he did against Auburn I think we win both. If he play’s like he did in the South Carolina or Kentucky game then it will be a close game against GT but I think we can pull it out but will lose big to the West Champion.
Georgia will recruit based on need but the most important player on our team will always be the Quarterback.
Auburn would have lost 4 or 5 games last year without Newton.

We have been thin at times on both sides of the line from time to time. It was a result of a rash of injuries, not becauce we did not sign enought players at those positions .All college teams experience the same problems, just name a position. Come on, give it a little more thought first before posting.

I think marshal and others will sign since we won the east. Marshall probably sees the fact that he could come in and play in the fall,, I’m sure he sees the depths issue and knows he could come in and make an impact day one. He knows he would play from day one and be in rotation if he is as good as advertised. Seems like a lock their for me. Also think of all the freshman we played this year as opposed to years past, others will follow for that reason alone. It’s about playing time to most of these people. The key to winning at any level is in the trenches, overall the last 11 years Coach Richt and his staff have done a poor to very good job recruiting on the offensive and defensive lines. The problem has been in consistantly recruiting and signing a steady number of high quality recruits each year. IMHO to be successful you have to sign a minimum of 5 to 6 OL and 4 DL per year. The attrition through injuries, graduation, and/or other factors is just too big not to. This is where we have been lacking is this consistency from year to year and is a very big part of why we had these 2 down years in 2009 and 2010 prior to this year and once again may cost us a chance to at least play for a MNC this year. It also cost us in 2007 and 2008 when we should have won a MNC in my humble opinion. Anyways these are my thoughts on this.

The rankings for the most part are a crap shoot. I rather have people who have the character and heart of many of the players that are playing for Georgia now.
I hope that Marshall and Gurley and others will come to Georgia, but only if they feel this is the right place for them.
My family is divided between Georgia, Alabama and Auburn and each year, I hear first hand a lot of the comments posted on theis blog, especially being a Georgia fan since Hershel and Dawgs!
. But I am still a “die-hard” Georgia fan and believe that the chemistry of the coaches and players currently at Georgia is working well and can if five things happen, be a contender in the southeast conference, once again for a long time.
They are:
1. The juniors all come back and give the underclassmen more time to improve.
2. The coaches will recruit players who want to play for Georgia, no matter the star ratings.(Just
look at what the freshmen and walk-on’s have done for Georgia this year, most of them have
had a tremendous impct on this season and the results!).
.
3. Hustson Mason will understand how valuable he is to Georgia and how much the fans
appreciate him, even though he is backing up Aaron Murray. Also the back-ups, LeMay,
Welch, Bingham, Tamburo play an important role and are very important IN their role(s)
on the team. (Key word- TEAM not INDIVIDUALISM).
4. Stay true to the players that makes the decision to come to Georgia, don’t over-promise, as
a couple of noted SEC schools do! Don’t embrass the player or his family by offering a him a
scholraship and taking it away, because you oversigned! This is not only shows a lack of
respect to the player and his parents, but defines the character of the coaches and school.
5 Play more of the second and third string guys in non -close games, so they can get the
the experience they need to perform when called upon.(This definetly needs to happen more
often). Make these players aware that they were given the opportunity to play for Georgia
because of Georgia needed them.

Every Alabama fan should be pulling for UGA to beat LSU. That is the only way they will play in a BCS game.If UGA wins in the dome they should play in a BCS game. How can you not have the SEC champion in a BCS game that is just stupid. Alabama had their shot and lost to LSU. Arkansas has their shot this week and UGA has it in three weeks. the winner goes to the BCS game. Alabama needs LSU to lose to ARK. and ARK would go to the dome and UGA beat ARK then it would be one big mess.

I THINK RICHT WILL BE FIRED HE DOESN’T WIN AN SEC TITLE FOR UGA. HE HAS NOT EVEN PLAYED FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE 11 YEARS HE HAS BEEN THERE. ALL OF THE TEAMS ON THIS SO CALLED EIGHT GAME TEAR——–ARE UNRANKED.
UGA WON THE EAST BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE TO PLAY BAMA, LSU OR ARKANSAS THANK GOD. LSU, BAMA, AND ARKANSAS WOULD “DESTROY” THIS VERY AVERAGE UGA TEAM. HECK…..LOOK HOW VANDY AND KENTUCKY COMPETED AGAINST UGA????
UGA IS NOT DOING WELL AT ALL IN RECRUITING BECAUSE THESE KIDS WANT TO PLAY FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM LIKE AN LSU OR ALABAMA, AND A CHAMPIONSHIP COACH LIKE NICK SABAN OR LES MILES. THEY DON’T HAVE BOBO’S——-THEY HAVE CHAMPIONSHIP STAFFS! THEY ARE NOT ABOUT COMPETING FOR TITLES AND YOU NEVER HEAR THE TERM “DREAM TEAM” FROM THEM BECAUSE THE RANKINGS IN RECRUITING AT LSU OR BAMA TRANSLATE TO THE ACTUAL RANKINGS OF THE TEAM AT SOME POINT.
WHY IS IT THAT THESE GREAT RECRUITING CLASSES AT GEORGIA NEVER EQUATE TO THE RANKINGS IN THE POLLS? IS UGA DREAMING TOO MUCH WHLE THE OTHERS DO IT ON THE FIELD WITHOUT “DREAM TEAM HYPE?” WELL….CONSIDER THE FACTS….
FACT: RICHT IS WAY BEHIND THE SEC IN RECRUITING THIS YEAR. http://www.scout.com
FACT: RICHT HAS LOST 15 GAMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS.
FACT: UGA IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP COACH LIKE SABAN.
FACT: UGA’S OWN KIRBY SMART “REJECTED” RICHT AND UGA TO STAY WITH SABAN/BAMA
FCAT: JOHN CHAVIS AT LSU ALSO “REJECTED” THE DC JOB AT UGA TO STAY WITH LSU!
FACT: COASTAL-OLE MISS-MSU-TENN-VANDY-KENTUCKY-AUBURN-FLA-ARE ALL UNRANKED
FACT: UGA’S GREAT RECRUITNG CLASSES NEVER HAVE DONE THE SAME IN THE POLLS
FACT DO THINK THE LAST FACT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH COACHING? HELLO!
FACT: UGA FANS DEMAND A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PRODUCT. UGA PAYS RICHT FOR IT
FACT: UNDER DONNAN’S PLAYERS RICHT DID BETTER THAN WITH HIS OWN RECRUITS
FACT: AFTER THE DONNAN PLAYERS LEFT & VAN GORDER DIGRESSION HAS SET IN.
FACT: IT IS TIME FOR RICHT TO DELIVER A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP OR HE MUST GO!

Take a look at the past 5-6 National Champions and then look at their recruiting rankings the 4-5 years prior to their winning the National Championship [as those classes would comprise their team during their National Championship run]. Top 5 classes don’t guarantee a championship……….but NOT consistently having top 5 classes guarantees that you won’t be winning a National Championship.
People love to give examples of a several 5 star recruits that don’t end up as superstars. Nobody ever said that recruiting was 100% accurate and that EVERY 5 star will be a superstar and play in the NFL. However, I have done the analysis and if you are a 5 star recruit…….your odds are greater that you will play in the NFL than a 4 star…..4 star >3 star…..and so forth.
The reason that the NFL has a lot of guys that were 3 star players is because of all the recruits each year….ONLY around 20-35 are labeled 5 star….Thus, there are a lot more 2 & 3 star players each year and thus the “pure” numbers of 3 star players in the NFL is greater than the number of 5 stars. However, as aforementioned….% wise, 5 stars are more likely to play in the NFL.
See Alabama, Florida, and LSU recruiting class ranks over the past 6 years……There is a reason they win championships…..ELITE recruits.

I’m a Bama fan. Our kicker, of LSU Game Fame, has been much worse than expected, and was the number three kicker in the US when we took him. So It is not necessary to recruit the absolute best players, but it is necessary to teach them the game and play their position at their absolute best. Especially in the SEC. The League of Champions.

Tampa Gator, Crowell is only one of the leading freshman backs in the NATION and had he not had his injuries and suspension, he WOULD be the LEADING freshman rusher in the NATION. True freshman at that.
That being said, I agree with you on the rankings. They are often wrong. They dont take into account heart and determination and upside. The intangibles are often the most important thing. Look at Harrow from Carver. No big school offered him and he has played at UGA as a true freshman! He not only played but has made a few BIG plays! His future looks very bright on the field and he gets a quality education from a big name school. I remember reading during the recruiting last year, a coach who played against Drew in high school saying that he thought Mitchell was at the time a better player between the two. He seen them both play, he made that ranking so to speak and he was right to this point. The high school coaches are the best evaluating talent and scouts who see many games. These ranking services, are probably the 4th or 5th best on reliability and that is why people do nto need to get caught up in rankings as much as they do. A top 15 class could be better than a top 5 class easily.
Back to Crowell Tampa, he obviously has serious running ability and escapability and speed. He IS a true freshman in the SEC in a time where conditioning and strength are unmatched anywhere in the country unlike never in history, not to mention talent and skill. Its a big adjustment and while you put Crowell down, he led UGA in rushing despite his injuries and played through them all he could. Think what UGA would have done WITHOUT him this year?! AND next year. He might have led the conference in rushing this year who knows, he has that kind of ability and you have to be blind not to see it and to see that he definately is and was a 5-star recruit.
You just like coming on here and being negative post after post after post after post after post? Go root for any of the 3 sorry Florida teams you woule like and leave our SEC East Champion Mark Richt coached UGA alone.
You are right Pulpwood Smith, it ALL starts on the lines. That decides if you can be dominant or not. That can make running backs great and average offenses can get the job done and on the D-lines, it can just close the door on the other teams rushing game and pressure the QB without a blitz. Its a no-brainer really and has wrked extremely well for Saban his entire coaching career and other teams would be stupid not to copy that IMO.

How can “Every Kiss begins with Kay” Richt and his sidekick, Bumbling Bobo, allow for JUCO Offensive Tackles James Carpenter, Rokevious Watkins, and Jason Peacock to go to Bama, S. Carolina, and Arkansas! These are in-state kids! Hell, Peacock served cokes as a kid at Sanford Stadium! Then to make matters worse, Richt/Bobo counter these blunders by bringing in the 9th rated offensive line class in the SEC. Combine this with this years commitments(i.e.Pyke), and losses such as Bean Anderson and Cordy Glenn, and you guys are headed for trouble again. Someone needs to tell Richt he needs to sign,(like yesterday!) a JUCO offensive tackle the caliber of those Georgia boys mentioned above! And do it before he heads out to JARED’S

Tide Roll, I’m a graduate of Cedar Grove HS which is in Dekalb county and not Atlanta by way. As for Brandon Greene, he ain’t all that bro…..he’s aight. 2007’s recruiting class is what got us into the mess that we are in. By not pulling Eric Berry, Cameron Heyward, Cameron Newton, Allen Bailey and Morgan Burnette….this is what put us in the hole the last 2 years. The players that we DID sign turned out to be busts i.e Caleb King, Israel Troupe, Chris Little, Neland Ball, Walter Hill, and John Knox. How do you let Cap’s little brother go to your arch rival GT? They have a jacked up philosiphy in Athen to recruit out of state players first then fall back on the instate players latter. As you see, they are now all over Dillion Lee….which is great….only problem is you’re about 10 months late. It sickens me to hear so many top instate kids echo the same complaint ” I like UGA they just waited too late to offer” Josh Dawson from Tucker is another one. Man you talk about a stud! How do you let him go to Vanderbilt? They were that close to losing Blake Tibbs as well. I think they will have a good class but they have to recruit harder and earlier in the recruiting cycle to stay on top. You can’t fall asleep, recruiting is serious buisness.

David Pollack was a 3 star rated player when we got him. Boise State is full of 3 star and less players. Here’s the rub. Boise State players, because they are not future NFL draft picks will be there playing as 5th year seniors. More elite players are redshirted one year play two and are gone. I’ll take a team that has been together for 5 years over a team filled with players that will redshirt one year, play one year, and then just go through the motions their third year until they are drafted. Recruiting is a pony show these days. The tail is wagging the dog and the press is to blame. We were all so excited to get Ealey and King . How did that work out for us? Don’t get so riled up over the recruiting circus – we’ll get what we need and make it work. All of this crap about Richt losing this or that recruit – listen, if a kid doesn’t want to be a Dawg, why should we want him if he doesn’t want us? Forget about recruiting for now – look where we are! Let’s enjoy the moment and celebrate the SEC Championship! Go Dawgs!

Brandon Greene is going to be “All THAT” and you’re right about Josh Dawson. Grantham needs to turn him. Georgia’s staff is apparently going to replace Bean Anderson with Watts Dantzler, Move Kenarious Gates to left tackle. Replace him at left guard with Dallas Lee, and stick this kid from “THE” Weslyan School at center. The athletes they have slated as back ups are worse. Almost all aren’t SEC caliber. They go out of state to land them because they would not be ranked in the top 100 in Georgia. It’s incredlble. You’ll never get there with richt/Bobo. The only reason they’re playing who they’re playing on the Offensive line this year is to save their jobs.

Brandon Greene has potential but those in Dekalb county will tell you Kenderius Whitehead from MLK ate him alive in the Jambore. Whitehead is another must have for UGA. If they can hold off Clemson and convince him that at 6′5 and 215 he is not a NFL DE body type. His future home is at OLB in the 3-4 defense where he will blossom into a first round pick. He’ll top out at around 260. If they can finish at LB with Kenderius Whitehead, Josh Dawson, Leonard Floyd, Josh Harvey Clemons, Jordan Jenkins and Kent Turene we will be fine. Other than that I think they’ll be fine at OL. Offensive Linemen have to be developed more so than anything. Every now and then you’ll see a kid like the Cyrus K. kid that Bama signed last year. Even he wasn’t ready to walk in and start. Andre Smith may be the best OL I’ve seen in the last 15 years….Brandon Greene is not either of them.

So using your logic mc, the falcons shouldn’t be able to get to the super bowl because they aren’t going to win their division. Enough with the winning your conference crap. Uga won’t be lsu but let’s say lsu suspended some players and they won. They LOST 2 games. Bama has one loss to the #1 team in OT. Lsu would have one loss. if you don’t like the way it is, then complain to the right people to get a playoff. If we had an 8 team playoff and ga did win out, then they would be in the mix. If Uga didn’t play the easiest sec schedule in sec history you may have a point. But you will play one game against a good sec team this year. Win that and enjoy a bcs bowl. But lsu isn’t going to lose. It will be ugly.

Richt would have zero problems getting the 5 star recruits if he had just been winning some of those key games over the years. Obviously, those top players want to play on a team that wins the big games more often. He needs to focus more on his oline recruits imo, in state or not. Their one key issue right now is the oline and could continue to be if he doesn’t add some elite players to the OL soon. The oline needs to always be stocked with as many talented guys (for depth), to help combat all the injuries we see these days. Guys who can step in and help the offense not skip a beat, who are disciplined and pass protect as good as they run block. This could wind up being a huge season for Richt, recruitment wise, if his team keeps this winning streak going the rest of the way, he just might see a whole lot more 5 star recruits wanting to come to UGA. Then if he stays in Athens, he just has to keep winning those big games consistently and recruiting keeps getting a little easier each year, like it must be for Bama and LSU these days.

___________________________________________________________________________
hate to tell this guy but the way things are breaking the ONLY way Bama misses out on THE BCS game ( the one with the crystal trophy ) is if the Tide loses to Auburn .
In fact … IF Arkanasas does beat LSU … that puts Bama in Atlanta … not Arkansas . If LSU wins … that leaves Bama with “only” the National Championship … see how this works ?
As a Tide fan , I’m not that concerned with WHAT Arkansas or Georgia do as far as it affects Bama . The Tide is NC bound regardless . Ain’t it grand ?
Neither the Dawgs or the Hawgs have any say at all on Bama’s destination UNLESS Arkansas manages to beat LSU . THEN Bama ends up in ATL to remind the Dawgs what happens when your program plays a team with a record above .500

Awww shucks Dawgin … you got me … I guess I should be thankful you didn’t whip out some devastating “momma” joke from your 3rd period alternative cooking class
As far as memory issues go … I would say Tide fans have a memory that easily exceeds any Dawg fans . Most Dawg fans I know seem to cling to a brief period in time … and NEVER want to talk much about any span of time that involves a sample size that might be statistically meaningful … like say a record that paints Jawja as a lifetime loser to the Tide in games , division championships , conference championship , national championships … bowl games won , bowl games attended or basically ANY meaningful category in college football . Nah … why would THEY want to remember things like that ?
Now granted … Georgia isn’t alone in their high grade amnesia . You have lots of company , including your brethren … THE University of Auburn .
Just remember this if you still have trouble remembering anything else … just because a decade makes up more than half your lifespan doesn’t make it a particularly long time for those of us who have been alive long enough to watch MULTIPLE coaches win National Championships at Bama .
You are probably still too young to realize it yet but the word FAIL is one you will hear associated with your program far more often in your life as a Dawg fan than a Tide fan ever has or will

The only reason we are getting a second look by some of these very good defensive players is because the hard work Coach Todd Grantham has put into the NEW Georgia defense. If we loose him to another assistant coaching position (college or NFL) that would be a huge misstep imo. I know he may be offered a Head Coaching position and at that point it would be up to him weather he stays or not. But, that being said CMR has also got to remind him Athens is a beautiful place to raise a family.

Recruiting is big, but recruiting isn’t the only thing that matters in sports. The coaches ability to devolp players and graduate them is far more important, these experts rate players on who they belive to have the most upside, however you those experts don’t account for the players attitude or will to get better after he has been told he is the man since he was in middle school. If it was all about recruiting then only 15 teams a year would be good, and teams like Boise, TCU, and so many others… But all in all Coach Richt is great at what he do, so let him and his staff do what they do. South Carolina joined the league in 1992 and has managed 1 divisional championship. After winning the East last season they commenced to gettting hammered in the SEC Championship game. This season, all South Carolina had to do was beat Auburn at home…..with a healthy Lattimore…….and couldn’t do it. Georgia was not a great team at the beginning of the season, they may not be now. We’ll see. Some years you catch a break and don’t play the best in the west, some years you play all three. But Georgia won the games that mattered and SC didn’t.
Until the chickens win the SEC, they should really consider putting a muzzle on the “crowing”. This is not a single iteration. We have 100+ years of sample size.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz … wrong … in that ONE area … Jawja has the lead on something … Athens has found themselves on the wrong end of the penalty stick in SIX different major infraction reports . Bama … only five .
You would think that a school that racks up violations at Jawja’s rate would at least be a bit more historically successful on the field … wouldn’t you ?
I guess if the Dawgs had down years during the penalty phases it would have been more memorable to the you if the program actually had up years worth speaking about from all that cheating .

Bloggers on this and other ajc sites make a big deal of UGA’s 2011 football schedule and the role this schedule has played in UGA’s 2011 success. Not sure when the 2011 schedule was made but don’t think it was on 9-1-11. I think it is made years in advance with some flex. A lots can and does happen between the time schedules are made and when they are played. Most of these happenings cannot be predicted or anticipated.
A high percentage of the time, when you have Tenn., Florida, Auburn and now S. Carolina to go with “trap” teams like the Mississippi and Miss. St., Kentucky & Vandy on the same schedule…you will have your hands full. Could UGA schedulers have predicted Florida, Tenn. and Auburn would be trying to rebuild their teams the same year?
Most years, I think these 3 teams would be as difficult as the current three west division powers of Al., Ark., and LSU. During Richt’s tenure, UGA’s record against these 3 western powers have not been that bad, in fact our worst problems have been with Florida.
When it comes to scheduling “cup cakes” like UGA’s 2011 games with Coastal Carolina and New Mexico St., UGA is behind most of the SEC teams.
Has UGA benefited from it’s 2011 schedule? Sure, did Auburn benefit from the one year services of Cam Newton and Nick Farley? Sure. My point is that there are more factors contributing to UGA’s 2011 success than their schedule.

All you dawg fans forgive me for butting in on this conversation. I usually stick to the high school blogs.
I think it is very important for UGA to not only sign some big tough OL players, but also sign 2 or 3 RB’s. This business every other week of not having experienced ball carriers available sucks. (What’s with Carlton Thomas? Is it time to simply cut him loose?)

Pretty obvious Crowell didn’t have a clue coming into this season what kind of shape he’d need to be in to make it through the season. I think that’s why (if you remember from an article in the offseason), the upperclassmen and him had a come to Jesus meeting early on. I think his eyes are wide open now to the reality of what SEC football really is. UGA will thicken and toughen him up over the next few years. He’s a gangly puppy who just needs to be brought to true dawg form! As for a dream team, I doubt there’s a top 10 team in the country who’d trade theirs for ours, but we’re looking more for “fits” now than we are filling voids. We know what our systems are going to do, we now know how what we had when the system was put into place fits into that system. Makes the hunting and pecking for prospects a bit easier. I think this is one class in which star power really isn’t a huge deal for that reason. That said, Marshall as a pickup would be HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If there was one kid in the class I’d say is a must pickup for our beloved dawgs, it’s him.

JUST SAW KEITH MARSHALL’S HIGHLIGHTS… HE’S A GOOD RB, BUT HE HAS THE SAME SKILL SET AS ISAIAH CROWELL (QUICK FEET, FAST AND MAKING PEOPLE MISS) WHICH ARE ALL GOOD ATTRIBUTES TO HAVE AS A SKILLED RB. BUT WHAT WE NEED AND UGA RIGHT AND IN TERMS OF THE S.E.C IS A TOUGH NOSED BACK THAT RUNS DOWN HILL, RUNS PEOPLE OVER AND WELCOMES CONTACT. ALTHOUGH ISAIAH CROWELL IS VERY IMPRESSIVE SKILL WISE HE’S GOTTA LEARN THAT U CAN’T MAKE PEOPLE MISS ALL THE TIME ON THIS LEVEL….YOU GOTTA RUN THRU PEOPLE 70 PERCENT OF THE TIME AND MAKE PEOPLE MISS 40 PERCENT OF THE TIME…THIS ISN’T HIGH SCHOOL ANYMORE WHERE U ARE QUICKER THAN YOUR OPPONENTS 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME….THESE S.E.C DEFENSES ARE THE FASTED IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL……LOOK AT TRENT RICHARDSON AND LATIMORE FOR EXAMPLE….THEY ARE BOTH SLOW, BUT THE MOST SUCCESSFUL RB’S IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL BECAUSE THEY DON’T CARE MUCH ABOUT RUNNING AWAY FROM THE FIGHT OR MAKING PEOPLE MISS. THEY WANT TO PUNISH THE DEFENDERS…………..BUT IF SOMEBODY CAN GET IN CROWELL’S HEAD AND CHANGE HIS OUTLOOK HE’S CAN BE MAGICAL FOR THE DAWG NATION BECAUSE HE DOES POSSESS SKILLS AND VISION THAT U RARELY SEE IN A RB……
