Surprise! UGA gains ground with 5-star DE Jordan Jenkins after visit — “too close to call”

UGA is now a serious contender for AJC Super 11 DE Jordan Jenkins after his official visit with the Bulldogs this past weekend (AJC)

Jordan Jenkins, the 5-star defensive end from Harris County High School, liked his official visit to UGA so much that the Bulldogs may be sneaking up to join his longtime frontrunners, Alabama and Florida.

It was some surprising good news for UGA, which had been given up as all but dead in the fierce recruiting battle for the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder who is considered one of the nation’s top overall athletes. Jenkins nearly canceled his official visit to UGA on two separate occasions before finally making the recruiting trip this past weekend.

UGA’s chances for the AJC Super 11 selection who is ranked as the state’s No.1 prospect by at least one recruiting publication have dramatically improved.

“Jordan told somebody that Alabama and Florida are on top, and that UGA is right there with them,” his father, Ronald Jenkins, told the AJC. “But it’s really too close to call right now, I will tell you that. UGA really did impress us, and we didn’t expect them to impress us like they did. We almost canceled this trip a couple of times, and we’re glad we didn’t. I know Jordan was glad he went over there. It was a real good visit and opened up our eyes about Georgia.”

After Jenkins and his family arrived in Athens on Friday, they met with UGA coach Mark Richt and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. They explained that Jenkins is being recruited to play outside linebacker in similar roles as Jarvis Jones, and that UGA’s logjam at the position isn’t really what it appears to be.

“Coach Grantham explained how he planned to utilize Jordan, as well as some things on the depth chart that would open up some early playing time for him as long as he keeps working hard,” Jenkins said. “There are some guys in the mix at outside linebacker who are outgrowing the position. They are going to be moved more toward the line in the near future.”

The opportunity to compete for early playing time is important to Jenkins, as is coaching stability. The elite recruit and his family like Richt, but heard so much speculation about his coaching future that they briefly considered canceling the official visit. UGA’s eight-game winning streak, along with a heart-felt conversation with Richt over the weekend, helped calm the concerns.

“We had a long talk with Coach Richt, and it was good,” Jenkins said. “We’ve talked with him before, and we know he’s a good man. Another thing that was holding us up with UGA is that we wanted to see how the season went because we knew there was speculation that if things didn’t go right that Coach Richt might not be there at the end. We feel confident now, based on how their season has gone, that Coach Richt is going to be back. That’s a thought on the minds of a lot of recruits when you start talking about Georgia. Is Coach Richt going to be there so you can play for him? We feel like he will be.”

UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has made quite the impression on 5-star Jordan Jenkins (AJC)

UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has made quite the impression on 5-star Jordan Jenkins (AJC)

UGA freshman linebacker Sterling Bailey served as Jenkins’ recruiting host on Friday, taking him to the basketball team’s season-opener, while UGA freshman linebacker Ray Drew took over the entertaining duties on Saturday night. “They couldn’t have picked two better guys,” Jenkins’ father said.

The highlight of the weekend for Jenkins was meeting with Grantham to review pre-game strategy, listen to the Georgia assistant explain it to his players, then watch them perform it to near-perfection in the convincing 45-7 win over Auburn.

“Jordan enjoyed watching Georgia’s defense play,” Jenkins said. “There were some things that Coach Grantham discussed with his players prior to the game, some things to look for and how they wanted to execute. And everything Coach Grantham broke down and talked about, they executed it in the game. It was impressive to see how he was teaching and passing down the knowledge to his players in a way they could grasp and use on the field immediately. We all know, coming from a guy with 11 years of NFL coaching experience, the guy knows what he’s talking about. We’ve always been high on Coach Grantham. Jordan has always liked him. He has always been a big plus for UGA.”

With Jenkins being such a high-profile recruit, he was recognized almost immediately at the game by other prospects and Georgia fans. “People had a lot of good things to say to Jordan in Athens, such as ‘Hey, come to UGA’ and ‘We need you,’” Jenkins said. “When they might’ve been getting up to walk to the restroom or to get something to eat, some Georgia fans would see him and make comments. His hostess was smiling every time that happened. It’s a special feeling for a kid to know that there are people outside of the coaches that want him to be a part of that team and university.”

Jordan Jenkins, John Theus

UGA’s only 5-star commitment so far this year, offensive lineman John Theus of Jacksonville, also made a recruiting pitch on behalf of the Bulldogs. The two had an epic head-to-head battle at UGA’s Dawg Night prospect camp last summer. “He had a good conversation with John Theus, and Quayvon Hicks came up to him pushing UGA,” Jenkins said with a laugh. “Those two are definitely good recruiters for the program.”

Jenkins and his family met with UGA coaches again on Sunday before leaving, with Richt and the elder Jenkins talking about the pair of secondary NCAA violations involving the two from last May. Here’s what happened:

The elder Jenkins texted Richt to ask about summer camp dates, and since Richt did not have the number programmed in his phone, the text was identified as “unknown.” Richt intended to forward the text to a recruiting assistant for identification but accidentally replied to Mr. Jenkins, which was a violation NCAA Bylaw 13.4.1.2. Richt immediately reported the inadvertent violation to UGA’s compliance director, who subsequently asked if Mr. Jenkins had replied. In an attempt to forward Mr. Jenkins’ response to UGA’s compliance director, Richt accidently replied to Mr. Jenkins again, hence he had to report another text violation.

“We laughed about the text message thing; that comes up every time we see each other,” Jenkins said. “When we’re leaving, Coach Richt says ‘You’ve got my telephone number? Oh, that’s right, you texted me.’ We laughed about it. He remembered I had his telephone number, based on the past texting issues that occurred. That was so ridiculous for it to be all over the Internet like it was.”

Back to recruiting: What’s next for Jenkins? He has already made official visits to UGA, Alabama, Tennessee and Auburn. His final recruiting trip will be to Florida on Nov. 25. He will announce at the Under Armour All-America game on Jan. 5.

“Realistically, like I’ve told Jordan, until we’re done with the visits, we don’t know where anyone is at [as far as having a favorite school],” Jenkins said. “We want to finish the visits and then sit down as a family to talk about it. Then we’ll start looking at academics, the depth charts, the relationships with coaches and players, and which place is the best overall fit. It’s going to be a tough decision.”

  • In case you missed it, one of the most talent-loaded teams to ever take the field in the state of Georgia lost in the first round of the playoffs. Stephenson, which has 11 seniors committed to D1 schools, lost 7-0 to Lowndes on Saturday. How will this Stephenson team be remembered? Express your thoughts here
  • UGA is making a late push for the state’s No. 1 WR, Sandy Creek’s Ja’Quay Williams, offering him a late scholarship last week. Williams is a longtime commitment to Auburn, and made an unofficial visit to UGA on Saturday for the Auburn game. Williams had some fun with a little smack-talking on his Twitter account during his visit, tweeting “imma do Brandon Smith from UGA sooooo wrong next year #wareagle.” Note: Branden Smith plays cornerback for the Bulldogs. We assume Ja’Quay is pretty solid with his Auburn commitment.
  • Allatoona RB Miles Jones said he still hadn’t heard from Georgia Tech on late Sunday night. There was speculation that Georgia Tech might offer a scholarship after another RB target, Liberty County’s Shadrach Thornton, made a surprising commitment to NC State over Georgia Tech on Friday night (click on story link)

The younger Jones is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver at Central Gwinnett High School and also has sparked curiosity from UCLA, UMass, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.

Why would any young man want to play for Coach Todd Grantham? He is no role model. He makes silly gestures to teenagers that kick for the Florida Gators and tries to bully poor old Vanderbilt. I wish Grantham would try to pull that kindergarten stuff on our Coach Saban.

Down the final stretch for recruiting – a lot of needs to fill – and a lot of positions to fill as well.

The Richt speculation has hampered efforts – and has been used against UGA is gettting recruits interested – making a wait & see approach.

Fair enough – IMHO – UGA would do the same against our rivals if in the same situation.

Mr. Jenkins: Saturday was a preview of what Grantham’s defense is becoming. Be a home state hero and be prepared for the NFL by the best. And don’t forget to compare the character of our head coach to anyone else’s head coach. CMR is the best. He don’t oversign and cut like some.

You know why this is happening? For the first time in years, the team played as a complete team, a state of Georgia team, by smacking the opposition in the mouth on both sides of the ball. Add the fans in the stadium, who for the first time in forever, actually gave Sanford Stadium a home field advantage. The atmosphere was more electric than I have ever experienced. This makes “elite” prospects, not just good ones, turn their heads.

Why would Jenkins want to play for Grantham you ask? I guess you have not been paying attention. Georgia is building a dominating defense that will be better than LSU and Bama next year. Georgia is on the way up. Tennessee, Florida and Auburn are on the way down. Saban is on the way out – good for about 5 years per school and is talking to Ohio State as we speak. Muschamp is in over his head at Florida and Urban Meyer isn’t coming back…. Tebow is long gone. It all starts with a dominating defense. Also, Georgia has the best QB in the SEC back for two more years with LeMay,( a former 5 star QB) waiting his turn. Anchored by John Theus at OT and Avery Young (hopefully) also at OT, with young talent like Malcolm Mitchell and Isaiah Crowell back for at least 2 more years, the offense will rival Arkansas for the best in the SEC. Education? Georgia is far better than Alabama. Summing it up – Musvchamp is another Zook, Saban will be gone in 2 years and Georgia will be the place to go if you want to LEARN defense for the NFL.

Destin Dawg…impressive! 3-2 against Saban? Wow. In the time Richt has been at LSU, Saban has won 2 national championships. He has won 3 or 4 conference titles and he has BAMA ranked #3 in the nation right now. Knowing that, do you think he would trade any of that for a winning record against an average coach in Mark Richt? My guess is no. As for his 3/4 year streaks, you are aware he is in year 5 now aren’t you? You are aware that his name is not even being mentioned for the Penn State job. Just want to make sure you know the facts when you make these lame predictions. But keep it up. You will be in the one who looks ridiculous when he is still at BAMA over the next several years.

Jenkins seems like a smart young man if he was able to follow Grantham’s pre- game instructions. I’m impressed. It is very obvious that Alabama was filling him and his family with a lot of doubt’s about Georgia. For me that would be important because I would think Alabama would feel they don’t have to bad mouth another school to get recruit’s to come there. They should be able to stand on their own merits. Them resulting in that kind of tactic would be a huge negative if it was me they were recruiting. If Jenkin’s can find his major at Georgia I hope he will give us serious consideration.

Jenkin’s visit proved that other schools are using CMR’s status against us. It is time for McGarity to step up and give CMR a long extension, at least 5 years to show recruit’s he will be there a long time. Tough choice for the kid….Bama, Florida, Georgia (probably in that very close order right now). I think Bama has the edge right now, but his visit to Gainesville for the FSU game should have a very positive impact for the Gators (like it just did for the Dawgs)….as he is the ideal fit for the #1 need for the Gators (he would start at DE/Hybrid LB) in year one. Plus, he and Ronald Powell became close friends when he first visited Florida. Him coming to Florida would allow Powell to move from that postion to inside linebacker, where he would be a better player.

Bull Dawg…….

Your post type is the reason so many non-Georgia posters on here have such destain for so many Dawg posters on here. Florida played your team and South Carolina’s team toe to toe with very little playmakers at WR this year….and with a QB that can barely walk. The young Gator defense is very good, and the offense will get a lot better next year. And a lot better offense would have meant wins over Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina this year. You can enjoy your season without trying to insult another program and its coaches (especially since many of you have spend almost the entire year insulting your own coaches) ……the Gators aren’t going to be down long and Muschamp and Weis will be coaching up the Gators for a long time in Gainesville.

After signing Richt to a 5 year extension it is just as important to give one to Grantham also. To give a 5 year extension to a coordinator is just not done but I think Grantham is that important to our program going forward. It is very important to keep Richt and Grantham together. I don’t know what it would take for Grantham to sign a long term extension, 1 million to 1.5 million a year but it would be money well spent.

7576DAWG, I don’t think “it needs to happen now.”

What if we had an ‘09-type game vs KY and lost, then lose to GA Tech, then a bowl loss?

At 8-5, should Richt get 5 more years?

Now, I don’t believe we will lose more than one more game, likely the SECCG, and even in that game we’ll have a chance, mostly because of Grantham. In fact, I think it is Grantham, more than Richt, who has saved Richt’s job so far.

If the Dawgs win the games we should, 11-3 doesn’t sound too bad, and McGarity will do the right thing with Richt.

I’ll catch flack for asking this, but who is more important for the Dawgs success next season, Richt or Grantham?

I say Grantham.

I do think Georgia will be the team to beat in the SEC East next year.

But South Carolina is returning a lot of players and will have Lattimore back….and Shaw will be much better.

And Florida just needs to fill 2 or 3 postions on offense (their very young defense is already very good and will get even stronger, faster, and better next year)……a power blockingTE (to be filled by Colin Thompson, 5-star recuit at the position and 6′5 and 260); power runners at RB (Matt Jones and Mike Davis are both on the way next year), big WR (Kent Taylor is on the way)…….and Brissett and Driskell are going to be big time QBs at Florida….one or the other….maybe both. Brissett is the real deal and just needs to learn the entire offense under Weis this coming spring and summer…and gain a little more exprerience. He is very talented….and has the innate QB skills and athletic skills that Brantley does not have.

Georgia will have their hands full next year with both SC and Florida. Vandy will be tough as well. And I think Tennessee will be much better too. The SEC East will be stronger than this year’s SEC West…..next year.

Gator fans are seeing a lot of improvement in the Gators this year (especially on defense where Muschamp spends most of his time….and especially with all the freshmen and sophs in the defensive secondary, where Muschamp really spends a lot of time)….and that is from good coaching. Florida’s problem this year has been on offense where a lot of injuries, a lack of depth on the OL, and a lack of experience at key positions has really hurt them….

What Gator fans have no more patience for is…….John Brantley at QB. We are looking forward to a new day at that postion…..and Brissett is looking and actiing like a future star at that position….and will be backed up by another good one in Driskett. Yes, the future is bright in Gatorland.

Meyer resigning from Florida had nothing to do with talent at Florida…etc. It goes all the way back to why Gonzalez suddenly left Florida for LSU…..but that is all in the past now and no need to focus on Meyer’s issues anymore.

To answer your question……if Meyer had returned (which he couldn’t), Brantley would have left and Driskell or Murphy would have been the spread QB. Brissett would be on the Miami roster. Florida would have struggled either way on offense this year because of the issues or lack of talent on the OL. Xavier Nixon, a five star recruit, has not lived up to billing. Matt Patchan, a five star recruit, has not lived up to billing. Chaz Green has, but he has been hurt since the first quarter of the Auburn game. The Gators have no center. They have one good guard in Halapio. The Gators have to get bigger and stronger on the OL if the new offense is going to work….and the players they have have to get bigger and better this spring and summer….Muschamp has recruited two outstanding players in Humphries and Dunker on the OL….and he has to add one more big time recruit on the OL this year. He also needs to recruit two big time recruits at DE….and that gives the Gators a selling point with Jenkins…he would start right away. Muschamp is also making big inroads with Donte Fowler, another 5-star defensive end that is currently committed to FSU. Fowler will be at the FSU/Florida game….in Gainesville and…from all reports….is giving the Gators a serious look. This could be the Tim Jernigan deal from last year in reverse for FSU (the Noles stole Jernigan away at the last moment from the Gators). Most Gator fans are not unhappy that Meyer left….because of the actions that caused him to leave and his lack of interest in coaching his final year in Gainesville. Most Gator fans remain excited about Muschamp and his staff. We are seeing a lot of improvement and know that injuries and a lack of talent have hurt the Gators this year….and the Gators still nearly beat Georgia and South Carolina. Things will be much better next year for the Gators. Muschamp is recruiting very well and he has an excellent coaching staff to build for the future. I think you might see a couple of minor coaching changes during the off season. Weis does not have the horses at WR this year, and Brantley has been too injured. But I think those issues will be addressed in the next couple of years and the Gators will again be challenging for championships…..as will several teams in the SEC East.

trupert…..

Receivers want to play in Auburn’s offense and they lack talent and depth at the position. Auburn is in the running for a lot of very good receivers…..and are fighting with Florida for several of them….

They are also strong for Avery Young, the OL out of Florida. In fact, the lead for him right now, I here, replacing Florida. Chizek is an outstanding recruiter…..and a good coach. He will also have Auburn back in the SEC West picture very quickly, I think.

[...] UGA makes big impression on 5-star DE Jordan Jenkins after his official visit with Bulldogs. Do Alabama and Florida still lead over UGA for Jenkins? [...]

TampaGator

November 14th, 2011
2:13 pm

I also think the fact that the Florida coaches are looking more for bigger, stronger OL is hurting them for Avery Young. He probably is a better OL fit with Auburn than with Florida, Bama, or Georiga. He currently only weights about 260 lbs. Florida already has enough of those “spread” type OL.

slydog

November 14th, 2011
2:13 pm

IMHO, Florida’s struggles has everything to do with Meyer, save 10%. He recruited a bunch of “athletes”, while superb, but they are not pure “football players.” They fit in a certain scheme and they played that way. Florida’s defense is just very, very young. They will be a force to reckon with next season. The offense has 3 QB’s suited for a spread option scheme (Brantley actually fits Gus Malzahn’s scheme better), small running backs, WR’s who don’t possess good route running ability or get separation from DB’s, and an OL not built for pass blocking or a pro style running game (like GT). Muschamp has decided on a complete culture change at UF: No more spreads, No more Fun’N'Gun. It takes time. Remember UGA last year? Alabama during Saban’s Ist year? The defense will come around next year and will have to carry UF for two years until the players are acquired to fit the current offensive scheme. UF will be 8-4 at worst next year, 10-2 and best. Hopefully, UGA can beat them twice in a row before they wake up again.

Maby he’s smart enough to realise he would just ride the bench at Ga for the next three years and is just looking for playing time. Auburn could use the help.

TampaGator

November 14th, 2011
2:17 pm

I think Bama is still in the lead for Jenkins. He was there for the LSU game. But Florida will have a major say when he visits for the FSU game….and let me tell you…..THE SWAMP will not be half filled for that game. It will be a sell out and it will be very loud….it would be if Florida was 0-10. Recruits will be impressed. And Jenkins has become good friends with a lot of current Gators and current Gator recruits….including Matt Jones. But I still think Bama will get him in the end…..just a feeling. But I also have a feeling the Gators will steal Fowler (5-star DE commit to FSU) from the Noles.

slydog

November 14th, 2011

As far as Alabama is concerned, Saban needs to find himself a QB, and he needs one soon. They can’t continue to be successful without having the ability to pass the ball vertically. That’s why they lost to LSU. Playing the Power I is fine, but that means your QB has to be that much better throwing the football. We will see if AJ McCarron is the answer next year. He wasn’t ready next year. LSU has Zach Mettenberger and a young defense, so I expect them to be just as good, if not better next year.

Guys talk all you want, but I can assure you if Coach Richt is here and I expect him to be, Theus will not flip…you can bank on that…But hey, anything is possible….Still believe Jenkins is Bama bound, but we still have a shot….Picked up a very good athlete from Florida today…QB, F. Bauta…6-3 225….probably will project out as a FB or TE, possibly LB…Has played these positions until this season…All around great athlete……The dawgs are not there just yet, but appear to be heading in the right direction…Still need to bring in some O-line help….go dawgs…

TampaGator, thanks for the good info. You sound very close to the program. I just saw a bit of the USC game, Brantley must have been out for some reason and I believe they had Driskell in and he looked very good, nice touch on the ball, so the future looks pretty good at least at QB..

Do you think the change in scheme means there is no longer a place for a Rainey or Demps?

IL Jacket….Correct, with 17-18 yr olds, no there is no gurantee, but I’m pretty confident that Theus will be a dawg, can’t say that about all the recruits, but with him I’m pretty confident..And yes we have lost some and will probably lose some more that we thought we had, but J. This season they (the recruits) have a very good reason to stay around, unlike the past 5 years. The class of 2011, the mis-named ‘Dream Team’, was actually a shock to fans and the staff at UGA, although they would never admit it.

As far as Aaron Murray vs LSU, it would be idiotic for UGA to not take advantage of the biggest OL in college football and run play action all game. You know how these games go when the defenses are almost even: The team with “just” a little more offense wins 8 out of 10 times.

slydog

November 14th, 2011
4:06 pm

Also, I said they always will prefer UGA, as long as they receive the same love back. You’ve read these blog many times when UGA late offers a recruit or misses out on one they could have had: “I never heard back from Georgia” or “It’s been a year since I heard from them but now they are coming on strong.”

slydog

IL Jacket

There is a place for Demps and Rainey but the offensive line and the receivers are holding the entire offense back. But to truly run their new scheme, a bigger, durable, between the tackles runner is needed. They have already signed 2-3 of these already. Don’t forget Mack Brown from MLK here in Atlanta

IL Jacket

So slydog, does that mean Muschamp is going to use the Saban model-ferocious defense, pound it out running attack and servicable, but not great, quarterbacking? Does that open up the recruiting wars for FSU to get better wide receiver recruits because the passing game is not as much a priority at UF? Changing coaches could have a real impact on types of recruits each school pursues.

slydog

November 14th, 2011
4:33 pm

@ IL Jacket… Yes, except maybe at QB. I believe Weis will not only groom Driskel or Briskett( I know, wrong spelling) well, but he will bring in top rated passers. ‘Servicable’ QB’s just don’t suit him. Muschamp has always been around top QB’s: Jason Campbell, Colt McCoy, Vince Young. However, the days of blow outs are far and few. Saban, Muschamp, and Richt have the same philosophy as an NFL team: Get a lead and hold it. FSU, UGA, Clemson, and Auburn, schools who have had success getting WR’s out of Florida, will have a harder time now. This is going to be a complete re-tooling job at UF.

Slydog…

Mack Brown at Florida is almost a total bust. I am not sure he is even dressing for games anymore. Scout team player. Matt Jones, a very big power runner, and Mike Davis are coming in next year….and Trey Burton will move to running back and the Gators still have Gillessie at RB. No future for Brown at Florida, it seems, unless something drastic changes for him in a Gator uniform. He has been very disappointing.

IL Jacket….

That was Jacoby Brissett you saw at QB…..6′6″ and 250 lbs with great, natural instincts and a great arm. He just powered over the SC LBs for that TD on the goal line…..and almost made another great play on the 2 point try…..and would have if Florida did not have such horrible WRs (one being the most disappointing WR prospect in Florida history…..the 5-star, 4.2 speed…Deonte Thompson. He has done about the least possible with the most talent possible in Florida football history…..sometimes…..it does have a lot to do with brain power……and watching him just stand still in the end zone while Brissett dodged one SC player after another trying to make a key play….was simply dumbfounding to me. He is just a stupid football player.

Some of you think you have Muschamp pegged……..

Well, good luck with that. Muschamp does not believe in the present defense. Says he will never play it….and got very upset in the Vandy game when the DC called it or the players called it during the game and nearly let Vandy back in the game. He also strongly believes in the vertical passing game to get quick scores and a power running game to set up the passing game. Right now….he does not have a single down the field receiver he can rely on to run correct routes or even catch the ball if it were thrown. Jordan Reed is going to be a great weapon in the SEC next year and the year after that….if he does not go to the NFL early. He is just learning how to play TE…and he ate SC up Saturday. And Brissett will be able to avoid the rush and get the ball to him…and others. Florida is also bringing in the nations #1 TE in Colin Thompson….6′5 and 255 and Florida #1 TE/big WR in Kent Taylor….6′5″ and 215. Add Matt Jones and Mike Davis to that combo….along with Hunter Joyer blocking from the FB position…and the Gators are already on their way to fixing their offensive issues. And the 3-star WR recruit, Pittman, is Weis’ type of great hands, possession type of receiver. Dunker and Humphries will add depth to the OL next year (along with one more OL recruit to come).

And….the Gator D only loses Jaye Howard…..and it is already good and fast.

Speaking of the Gator D…..I just read that it took a hit today when it was announced the Marcus Roberson (who will be freshman All-SEC at CB this year) has been lost for the rest of the season due to injury. It has been a rough year injury wise for the Gators. This injury probably will make it impossible to upset FSU……if they had any chance at all before the announcement.

Speaking of FSU……they will be the Bama and LSU of the world next year. My goodness….they are young….very deep…..very talented….and ready to roll next year. Florida has some making up to do with them in the future as well. But Muschamp will get it done.

UGA is back and now, we just add some talent here and there and keep that train rolling on. Floirda is in the tank, UT has no talent and no coaches, Alabama will see Nick move on to Michigan or some big school, like the REAL USC. LSU is in the west and uGA love to play them so come on to Athens and let us do it.

SC is a joke and they are toast anyway with Lattimore leaving them next year and then, they will snooze again for 25-50 years.

Blackoutanyone?…..

My preseason prediction for the Gators was 9-3 or 8-4. I was wrong. But I did not expect Brantley and Demps to go down with season altering injuries, the OL to have no depth and have injuries (Chaz Green did not play against SC or Georgia and missed most of the Auburn game)…..and the two freshmen OL to get hurt and miss the entire year. The lack of depth on the OL really hurt the Gators this year. Also…I did not expect Jeremy Brown to go down for the entire year at CB…or freshman WR Quinton Dunbar to have such a great spring and fall off the charts during the season. It has indeed been a strange and difficult year for the Gators. But……the future is bright. They are still very young and very talented, and Muschamp is putting a great recruiting class together that is going to fill a lot of current needs.

IL Jacket……

The only freshman on FSU’s team is a safety….the #1 safety recruit in Florida last year. He is big….and not super fast. But he is quick and is a great cover safety. I refuse to watch FSU unless they are playing Florida…..so I have no idea if that was him or not…..and simply….don’t care…..but….FSU is going to be a powerhouse football team next year….and probably will demolish Florida in a couple of weeks. They are healthy and deep at most positions. Florida is very unhealthy and currently lack depth everywhere. Not a good equation for the Gators. But it is in THE SWAMP…and it will be at night. You never know. John Brantley might turn suddenly into Peyton Manning and Andre Debose might suddenly turn into Jerry Rice. But I doubt it.

You were already smacked around in the Dome in the season opener by a mediocre Boise team so either of the above mentioned teams would definitely continue the beat down….SEC West hasn’t been decided yet and there is a slim chance you will see the Tide in the Dome…..Slim chance but it could happen!

The fact is Saban had the team prepared and in position to beat LSU by 10+ but a lack of execution in the red zone and mental mistakes allowed LSU to hang around and once you get into college OT it’s anyones game. If you disagree you either didn’t watch the game or you just don’t really understand football. My money is on the latter. I would recommend a name change for you sir.

Bama bound, book it, early playing time is paramount, one true jack on roster, Dickson from Griffin, and Hubbard who alternates between Sam and Jack, Major media and the Georgia fan base are primary culprits for the prior apprehensiveness about Richt’s job stability, not Bama’s coaching staff, who according to just about every major recruit they’ve landed from GA have been quoted in the AJC as saying bama doesn’t negative recruit check your own depth chart. And you’ll see multiple jack types signed in the last 3 classes, ditto at Fla, wishful thinking, once again knowledge of Depth Charts will save you a lot of disappointment!

I will say this much: UGA is not on the same level as LSU, however, that does not mean that UGA does not possess the ability, the athletes, the speed, or the fire power to beat LSU. Let’s look at the only team that went punch for punch with LSU, Bama. Not to beat up on Bama, but AJ McCarron is no Aaron Murray, at least not this year. Apparently, McIlwain does not have enough confidence in McCarron to pass the ball vertically. UGA is not a one trick pony. When T. Richardson is in the game, guess who is getting the ball 60% of the time? Malcolm Mitchell is every bit as good as Marqis Maze.Unlike their match up with Bama, LSU will be forced to play against the vertical passing game. I know they have a superb secondary, but I think UGA’s OL can hold their own against LSU upfront. Lest we forget, T. Richardson had 98 yards before he was dragged back by three bad running plays. UGA’s play-calling will not be as predictable as Bama’s was. Is there any doubt that UGA’s defense can take a hit early, but then hold a team late? LSU will have to beat UGA running the football. How does that match up look against UGA’s defense? However, LSU has better over all athletes at most positions and more game breakers. No doubt, Boise was better than TCU, but TCU took advantage of small match ups and pulled off the victory.

Signing multiple jack types is why Florida is in trouble in the first place. The type of “multi” athletes they recruited are different than the ones on Bama’s roster. Florida recruited a lot of athletes with speed, hoping to coach them into football players. Bama recruited football players who play multiple positions. A big difference.

slydog… that’s some pretty good analysis you got there. You forgot to mention the defenses in your UGA/Bama comparision. Spare me the #4 ranking and lets get real. The only two decent teams (Boise St and SC) you played dropped 35 and 45 points on you. As for “predictable” play calling. That’s what you do when the other team has a great defense but isn’t as good as your own. LSU couldn’t move the ball on our D and Saban knew that. The McCarron INT set LSU up inside our 10 and they still couldn’t get in the endzone.

Gerogia’s defense sucked in those first two games. There were individual great efforts (Jarvis Jones, Branden Boykin, Abry Jones, Cornelius Washington), but overall, they played soft. For some reason CTG had them playing the VanGorder/Martinez soft zone in the first two games. After that, press man ever since, the SEC way…lol. Anyway, I hate to sound like a homer, but 3 players have made me believe this defense is right behind Bama and LSU: Rambo, Ogletree, Sanders Commings. They have stepped up their game in a serious way. Rambo is no Mark Barron, but he’s a better ballhawk(he doesn’t drop balls anymore). Ogletree hits and creates fumbles. Commings is either playing safety or corner and he seems to be in on almost every play. Difference between UGA and those other two: Depth and a known mean streak. But CTG may have taken care of that. If you think about it, name one position that UGA does not have an excellent player on defense? How much better is Upshaw over Jarvis Jones? What about upfront? I’m willing to bet UGA’s is better than both Bama and LSU on the defensive line. What say you?

I like your spirit even though it is totally misguided.

Is Pee Wee really going to Penn State???????????????

GA will get to play against Jenkins in 2012. He will replace Courtney Upshaw at jack linbacker for 3yrs., then the pro’s. You should follow his career. RTR

blackout: was pulling for y’all against LSU. my buddy is a bama fan and we’ve vowed to get to the dome no matter what when GA and bama go at it. hell it still could happen this year. i’ve been watching my dawgs very closely all year and was not surprised by what happened on saturday. we’re definitely not where LSU is at (fwiw i think we’re every bit as good as the hogs), but i think we match up pretty well with them and are capable of making things very interesting. our defense is for real and the OL has improved drastically.

i noticed bama attacking the honey badger, and that’s what we ought to do too. the worst kept secret in the SEC is that he’s their third best corner. he makes a lot of mistakes, and if claiborne, brooks, and reid weren’t so sound he’d get exposed much more often. running game has to be north/south, and the QB has to be phenomenally accurate–the windows in that secondary are very tight.

and yeah, i think jenkins is going to bama. we almost got him at dawg night, but it’s all about playing time and we’ve just got more bodies at the jack/will position. bama’s the right place for him this year, just like UGA was the right place for mitchell last year. win some, lose some.

UGA fans kill me with play for your “state” school..these kid only get on chance at college and if they want to head to Cali,Texas,Fl or Ok then it about what they want. Jenkins isn’t from GA. He was born in WA…not that it should matter but wtf? is this “stay in state” beg. His parents have been part of the process from the start and they have great relationship with Saban, Chiz, Muschamp/Brayant and CMR/TG, this won’t be about a “state” but about what’s best for Jenkins.

cadawg… UGA should come out and play like they have nothing to lose. Take a couple chances and you never know. Sure would throw a monkey wrench into the BCS. Like most Bama fans, I will be pulling for you guys.

Grant Park Gator: Why does it matter one iota to you what UGA fans do or don’t do? Maybe a little begging would help you and Muschamp field a competitive team next year

Blackout: Thanks. We will need all the support we can get IF we get past Kentucky. I just hope they have all our players under 24 hr. survellence(or however you spell it) including drug dogs. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers yesterday. Good luck from here out unless y’all show up in the SEC Championship game.

Brainiac…. Like u and many others on here this is just a way to waist some time and have a little fun. I created my name a few years ago to respond to UGA fan talking trash. I only use it now because I’ve had it so long and some people recognize it. I talk a fair share of trash on here but its usually in response to someone. UGA has great fans. Some of the best I ever tail gated with at Bryant Denny. If you guys play LSU I’ll be rooting on the dawgs from my mancave. Hunker down and lay they wood to em. Woof woof woof Roll Tide!!

Blackoutanyone….for what it is worth we deserve your name. I for one hope we NEVER see another blackout. Georgia team has made some real progress on defense and the Mitchell kid is a giant playmaker. My gut says we see the Tide in the BCS when the smoke clears. My money will be on Bama no matter who they play. I did feel, probably like you, that Bama’s kicking game could cost them a close game. Best of luck the rest of the season and GO DOGS.
Are you going to get Landon Collins out of LSU’s backyard?
