Mike Bobo travels to scout UGA’s QB of the future

UGA QB commit Brice Ramsey (Camden County HS)

UGA QB commit Brice Ramsey (Camden County HS)

Where was UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo when the Bulldogs were off this past weekend?

He traveled to South Georgia to personally scout UGA’s quarterback of the future, Brice Ramsey, the junior from Camden County High School who committed to the Bulldogs last summer.

“I talked to Coach Bobo like every day on Facebook, and he was down on Friday at the game, which was good because it was one of my best showings of the season,” Ramsey told the AJC.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder led Camden County (7-0), which is ranked No. 1 in the state’s largest classification, to a 56-7 win over Jenkins.

Ramsey and Bobo talked on the phone after the game. “Coach Bobo said I throw the deep ball well, along with the short and intermediate passes.  He also said I could run. He told me that he can’t wait to coach me after we win two state championships at Camden County.”

Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis also stopped by Camden County earlier in the week to check on Ramsey. The Gators haven’t given up on their pursuit of the strong-armed quarterback, who visited Florida’s campus for a game last month. Ramsey will also probably attend Florida’s game against Florida State on Nov. 26.

What about UGA? Ramsey has been to a pair of Georgia games, and will be in Athens when the Bulldogs play Auburn on Nov. 12. He and a few buddies also have tickets to see Georgia vs. Florida on Saturday in Jacksonville, which is located around 40 miles south of Brunswick.Brice-Ramsey-3

“I’m committed to Georgia and their football staff,” Ramsey said. “I’m staying committed. It’s solid and strong. The reason I still talk to Florida is to have a backup plan in case something drastic or crazy happens with Georgia, which I don’t think is going to happen. They’ve been really looking good.”

Ramsey was one of five UGA recruits to commit at Dawg Night prospect camp in July, picking the Bulldogs over Florida, Florida State and Clemson. Recently, wide receiver Tramel Terry of Goose Creek, S.C., backed off his early commitment to UGA and re-opened his recruiting. Ramsey and Terry developed a friendship on the camp circuit, with Terry spending part of last  summer at Ramsey’s house to train for football.

What did Ramsey think of Terry’s decision? “I haven’t talked to him about it. I think he was caught up in the moment,” Ramsey said. “I can’t disagree with him but we’ll see what happens down the road. I’m going to stay after him for Georgia for sure.”

Brice, son, you are the star of our “DREAM TEAM II” recruiting class for 2013. We had an average year in recruiting this year only because of the 0-2 start but we’ll be whooping everybody for recruits in 2013. Look forward to having you in Athens Brice!

Keep the recruits coming. Bobo is not going anywhere. He is a good QB coach. Look forward to him and Coach Richt coaching for years to come. We haven’t seen the best yet. Next year and the next will be very good. A win over Florida, Kentucky and Auburn will win the East and play Alabama/LSU in the Championship game. Anything can happen there. Go Dawgs.

In todays college and pro game, its all about the qb. Get a good one and you have a chance to be very successful. Make a recruiting mistake or don’t sighn a good one, you are in the middle of the pack in any league you play in!

@ William…
SC would have to lose again before Georgia’s winning out would make any difference in the SEC East.

By the time he comes to UGA, I hope Bobo is the QB coach and we have a new offensive coordinator. For anyone who thinks a new OC does not make a difference, just look at Clemson (they hired a new one this year) and Auburn (they hired their new OC last year).

Border,

S.C. has an appointment with Ark. in Ark. Nov. 5th. I think that will be the deciding factor for S.C. UGA’s fate in in it own hands. S.C.’s is in Arkansas, so I have got to like UGA’s chances. If UGA beats Florida this weekend, I think they can handle Auburn at home and then the SEC East champ will be UGA. No doubt any SEC East team will be a big underdog to the SEC west champ in the conference championship, but the fact that UGA, is in the hunt, with almost nobody predicting they would be there shows that these young DAWGS are for real and they are improving as a team every week. The fact that they had a down game at Vanderbilt, and still won the game, shows that UGA is improving. The key to the DAWGS remaining games will be offensive execution and play calling. The skeptic in me, says that they O play calling get’s them beat at least once down the stretch, but the optimist in me says that they will have a solid enough game plan, and play even better than their experience level would dictate they play and they will keep improving and win out for the season. As long as they don’t try to play, like they are walking on egg shells, due to poor offensive play calling and do some better work in the red zone, UGA will get the SEC East, and a decent bowl game for the season. This year is a building block to which, should be a very good UGA team next year and who knows what the future holds.

For those that think they need to constantly put down the DAWGS based on previous records and whatever reason they can come up with to post negative crap,

Obviously, the kids don’t bother to read half of the garbage form people on the AJC blogs, so all the ranting and negative comments and in some cases just down right stupid comments by people on these blogs, aren’t having any affect on these young DAWGS. If you are a loyal and true DAWG fan, you will get behind your team now, and cheer for them, rather than post all this negative crap and useless statistics that some persist in posting.

And finally, for those that think non graduates have no right to be a fan of UGA,

Everybody that is a true DAWG fan, graduate or not, which really isn’t a measure of whether or not you can support your favorite team, should be darn proud of what these young kids have accomplished and for what the future for UGA football holds. Why some folks feel that a person can’t cheer on a team, because they did not graduate from that college is beyond me. How many falcons fans, have a monetary investment in the falcons, Braves or the professional Basketball team, located in the city of Atlanta? I guess they shouldn’t be allowed to be fans then, since all they do is support those teams by paying for tickets and seeing some of their tax money be used to favor professional sports, in stadium deals, special tax incentives and the like. Fans of UGA, be it a graduate or not, support their team when they support their team, buy team articles and such. Fans are determined by ones loyalty to a team, not to it’s affiliation by having graduated from that that school. UGA is a state funded university, and it is allowed to have fans, which by the way, are just as loyal as most of the graduates of UGA, as any other states university. Not everybody is in the position to get a degree from one university or another. It doesn’t mean we can not support our home state school. I personally, had no choice in where I went to college, but I got my degree, while making a career in the military. I support UGA and I feel I have earned the right to support any team I wish. For those of you who feel elitist and can dictate who can support UGA, I say, it was guys like me, that gave you the privilege of being able to go to college, in the first place. Since you have not walked in my shoes, or in most cases my boots, I think you just need to get off of your high horse and shut up.

Christain LeMay is preparing for his career at Georgia by being kicked out of his high school and skipping his senior season. His parents believe that this is the best strategy for landing the starting QB job in Athens.

paige…Ramsey is a junior in high school. He has 2 years before being on campus at UGA. If he is good enough he will have a chance to play at start after he gets there. Competition breeds success!!

I for one am thankful to see the change with stockpiling QB’s. One of the biggest reasons we have experienced a downturn in the program over the last several years is that we didn’t have anyone ready to play after Shockley graduated and Stafford left early. That was inexcusable for a program like UGA. As far as Lemay is concerned I think the QB competition next Spring should be very interesting.

Sorry, off topic here, but does anyone know what happened with Ray Drew? Did his scooter accident force him to redshirt?

And this Camden quarterback appears to be exactly the type of guy we need at the helm of our team. Very well spoken, a true winner that plays some of the toughest competition in the state, especially during playoff time. Very excited, and hope Camden County does well.

The 2012 class will look much nicer if the Dawgs can add Keith Marshall. Bryan McClendon was in Wake Forest this past weekend to see Marshall play in person as well. Winning this weekend in Jax will do wonders for this 2012 class… CMR needs this one bad. The only thing keeping the ‘12 class from making the jump from good to great is the uneasyness around the future of the coaching staff.

@Patrick, spot on. If we take care of business then our upcoming class finishes in the top ten in recruiting. Kids like excitement. So this weekend is big for our team and future players. As far as the east being down. I don’t see it that way. I just think LSU and ALA are much better than everyone else in the D1 across the board. I’ve said it on here before, the parody in college football has changed the level of competivness. So if you don’t think every game counts you get beat. Just ask Bob Stoops

Grantham’s biggest problem this week isn’t the Gators, It’s all his efforts being counteracted by the Richt/ Bobo braintrust (along with your special teams coach, Richt’s buddy – John Lilly). Stop Lattimore? No matter, Some 280 lb. defensive lineman is going to take a fake punt 70 yrds. for a touchdown! Intercept a pass to ice the Vandy game? NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. your special teams are going to give up a punt block that should have been returned for the winning touchdown. Feel a momentum swing when your defense gives you a 3 and out? Bobo will put a quit end to that with two low percentage passes, and a meaningless running play. The saying “THE DEFENSE NEVER RESTS” has never been more appropriate with Richt and Bobo at the helm. UGA- “WHERE DEFENSIVE COORDINATORS GO TO DIE” (or crazy!),

I would like to see this guy play, a coach commented he throws like Stafford, he kicked a something like 50 yard field goal earlier this year and Bobo says he can run it. He must be a tremendous athlete, he’d be good at the Punt, Pass, Kick competition they have before NFL games.
