Geno Smith, Alabama DB commit, still hearing from UGA, LSU, FSU and Auburn

AJC Super 11 pick Geno Smith of St. Pius (AJC)

AJC Super 11 pick Geno Smith of St. Pius (AJC)

Alabama DB commit Geno Smith is planning an unofficial visit to archrival Auburn but it’s not why you think.

Yes, Auburn was the runner-up to Alabama for the AJC Super 11 DB’s commitment but his trip to Auburn would be to go see Alabama play. This year’s Iron Bowl will be played at Auburn on Nov. 26.

“Other than the Iron Bowl, I don’t plan on visiting any other schools than Alabama,” said Smith, who still hears from Auburn, UGA, LSU, Arkansas and Florida State on a regular basis.

Smith has kept an extremely low profile since committing, focusing on his senior season at St. Pius, which is 7-0 and ranked No. 2 in Georgia’s Class AAA. Smith stars on both sides of the ball for St. Pius, also playing tailback.

Smith has flourished under the incredibly high expectations that were put on him for his senior season. “I know the expectations are high, but I don’t really think about it that much because I’m confident about what I can do. So far, so great for our team this year. We have a big game on Friday against Grady.”

What about Alabama? Smith will make his first visit there this fall for Saturday’s Tennessee game, and will likely return for the LSU and Georgia Southern games also. He will take his official visit to Alabama sometime in January.

Parkview S-LB Patrick Flowe

  • Georgia Tech is taking a close look at Parkview LB-S Patrick Flowe, who has early offers from Georgia State, Air Force, Furman, Georgia Southern, Troy State and Samford. The 6-1, 200-pounder has a 3.96 GPA and has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.4 seconds. Patrick is the son of Parkview coach Cecil Flowe.
  • Ohio State assistant Taver Johnson stopped by North Gwinnett High School this week to check on defensive lineman Jordan Washington (6-3, 260), who has narrowed down to the Buckeyes and Mississippi State. Said Washington, “I got the offer letter from Ohio State a few days ago, and he said they are really interested in me and hope to see me up there soon.”
  • Louisville offered Lassiter LB-S Kenny Orjioke on Wednesday. It was No. 13 for Orjioke, the senior transfer from California.
  • Walton offensive lineman Harrison Davis, the son of former Georgia Tech All-American and NFL player John Davis, got his first offer from The Citadel.

GT might be onto something. I wish UGA would look at this Patrick Flowe. If he runs a 4.4 I am sure he can play somewhere. Plus being a coaches kid can’t hurt.

Flip side think of the inside track you will now get by doing this. Smart move

Jeno is looking to get into the NFL thus Nick and Bama is his choice. If he wants to get 5pm news then go to auburn and be apart of breaking into homes,,,make that trailers. UGA…nobody has a clue what he gets their but it will not be discipline and coaching and that anyone can see.

@Roaddawg80…NOoooo!!! C’mon son. This Parkview kid is getting recruited by D1-AA schools. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. That means he’s a step too slow, an inch too small and maybe a couple of other things. Do you think they think like that at Bama? LSU? Let this kid go play on one of the other schools and enjoy his time playing in college and not being next year’s “Rudy.” UGa fans have seen their share of kids coming to campus that are D1-AA or D2 type talent (Ealy and King come immediately to mind). Plus Parkview hasn’t been relevant on the football landscape since more Gwinnett high schools started snatching a lot of their talent.

Well let’s just say what most people think about the University of Alabama. Its football pursuits justify its identity with an uneducated backward population and symbolic link to the Lost Cause. It is truly ironic that the exploitation of a less-powerful racial group serves to inoculate the U of Alabama from pressure to improve the state or to stimulate change. Football “success” has stalled its transformation into a modern university with intellectual, aesthetic or humanistic concerns.

Also the University of Alabama’s misplaced priorities (football fluff over economic substance) harm the state’s growth and development as the Crimson Tide football team is outlet for the lunatic fringe and a venue for them to be recognized. Too often though the holy crusade of Bama football acts as an umbrella under which the range of political and social opinion is from Y to Z. Thus when a university simply reflects the attitudes of its football fans….. It is no longer a university in the true meaning of the word.

The NCAA would actually be doing the University of Alabama a favor by handing down a ‘Death Penalty’ for its football team. It will be only then that its faculty, alumni and students will appreciate the scholarship and learning that mark a university with intellectual fiber and integrity. Indeed until that happens “roll tide” is the mortifying apology for those without individual self-esteem or dignity.

Paul, Do you really think everything Auburn does is wrong? What about the multiple times Alabama has gotten into trouble? Your quote, ” If he wants to get 5pm news then go to auburn and be apart of breaking into homes,,,make that trailers.” That just shows your ignorance. Get over yourself and bama. Quit trash talking Auburn and whoever else you put down and be a fan. Maybe Bama will beat Auburn this year, they have struggled to do that recently. Bama has their share of criminals and they pay players like many schools do. If you don’t believe that, do some research before you post onto blogs.

CMR Character Conflict

Like I keep saying – I really question St. Mark’s character and integrity. He has often said that he questions the character of player that would break his commitment, verbal or otherwise, from one school to attend another. And has stated before that “I don’t know if I want a player playing for me who couldn’t keep his word”. Well – CMR is doing the VERY SAME THING when he and his recruiters continue to go after players who have already committed to other schools – even verbally. So – I guess that makes St. Richt a huge hypocrite. No wonder his teams lack character and discipline.

As long as Saban stays at Alabama he will take the cream off the top with DB’s. Guy has a major reputation developing secondary. Now with that said, Georgia MUST do a better job of keeping our top 15 players in state. Yes, we did a GREAT job last year. And yes, this year SUCKS.
My defination of sucks is we finish outside the top 10 in recruting.
If we are going to be a NATIONAL POWER we can NOT have spotty recruiting years. I fear this HOT SEAT stuff is going to continue and it will effect our recruiting next year. I hope I am wrong. lET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR…..I do think our coach deserves to be on the hot seat this year.

McDawg…unlike Richt, Saban doesnt have an off season. He spends like 2 week a year on Lake Burton. He is too busy building championship teams at Alabama because that is what he is paid to do. Richt should try it. Geno is going to BAMA because he wants to be coached by a great DB coach and HC in Saban. You guys can tell yourselves whatever you want but everyone knows he made the right choice. Just another top 20 instate kid who has zero interest in the dawgs!

dap01……………………………..How does this recruit know that he won’t be one of the 5 players who magically disappear each year due to Saban’s oversigning? Saban has oversigned every year, yet no one dares do anything about it. It’s not ethical.

WRONG AGAIN………………………….Nothing like proving TUGA wrong every time.

The SEC has allowed 28 scholarships per year in Football…………………………Only this coming year will they drop it down to 25.

Here is the average scholarships for the last 5 years per school and how they rank.

The bigger problem is that UGA has a depth problem and if they would have signed the allowed number then they would not have this issue with having to play so many FRESHMEN.

The only offenders have been OLE MISS and AUBARN

OLE MISS………………………………………29
AUBURN………………………………………..28.8
MS. STATE…………………………………….27.6
ARK……………………………………………….26.8
KY………………………………………………….26.8
BAMA…………………………………………….26.6
LSU………………………………………………..26.2
SC………………………………………………….25.8
FL…………………………………………………..24
TN…………………………………………………..23.6
GA…………………………………………………..22.6
VANDY…………………………………………….20.8

CMR is not playing with the rules he has been given. If the SEC states you can sign 28, then why is CMR SIGNING 23 or less.

Get the facts straight before you start the lies to make up for UGA short fall.

Houston NUTT is the main habitual offender, but no one talks about a losing program in OLE MRS. , or MS. ST. Below are some of his comments.

I understand everyone hates BAMA, FOR GOOD REASON.

BAMA is the winniest program in the SEC and the 6th overall program in college football.

In 2009, Nutt signed 37 players, which is why many dubbed the SEC limit as “the Houston Nutt rule.” Nutt explained he knew seven of those players were going to go to junior college and two were headed to military prep school.

“You knew the ones who were going to make it and you knew the ones who had a backup plan,” Nutt said. Heading into signing day, Nutt said that he tells those players who may have to gray shirt this: “Right now you don’t have a scholarship. Here are your choices: You can go sign with another school or you can wait and sign with us, see who becomes eligible then if there’s a slot and someone doesn’t become eligible, you’re the next guy up.”

Last August, wide receiver Collins Moore from Bob Jones High in Madison, Ala., said he would sign with Mississippi after considering LSU and Kentucky. According to Bob Jones coach Kevin Rose, Moore was asked last week to grayshirt. Nutt told Moore that he no longer had space in the class to offer him a scholarship for the fall. However, Moore signed with Ole Miss on Wednesday anyway.

01Hawk….come on man. Dont come on here stating facts. That is not what UGA fans want to hear. You are supposed to talk about how mean Saban is and how he is breaking recruiting rules (even though he really isn’t). UGA fans are rightfully pissed because their class is going to be average this year and because the top players in the state have no interest in playing there. However, they dont need to blame Saban or Chizik or Miles or Muschamp or Fisher or Golden or any other coach for that matter. They need not look any further than those who have office in the Butt Smear building on the campus of the University of Georgia for not playing by the rules that are given to them.
