Top Auburn recruit plans visits to FSU, LSU … and maybe UGA

Auburn DB commit Josh Holsey, the AJC Super 11 DB from Creekside High School (AJC)

Auburn DB commit Josh Holsey, the AJC Super 11 DB from Creekside High School (AJC)

There’s something about former Creekside High School football stars attending games that brings out the best in Josh Holsey, the AJC Super 11 selection who may be the state’s No. 1 cornerback.

Eric Berry, the NFL defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs, gave a rousing pep talk to Creekside before Saturday’s game and then sat in the stands to watch Holsey score thrice in a win over Riverdale, including an interception return and two touchdown catches.

Last week, with Florida State safety Terrance Parks watching on, Holsey scored five touchdowns in the 45-7 win over Forest Park. The TD breakdown: 2 catches, 2 runs out of the Wildcat formation and a kickoff return.

Parks was so blown away by Holsey’s dominating presence that he went back to FSU and raved to his coaches about Holsey, who committed to Auburn. Evidently, FSU’s coaches liked what they heard because they are in now hot pursuit of Holsey, who said he will take an official visit with the Seminoles.

“I want to take official visits to Florida State, LSU and Auburn,” Holsey said. “That’s the only three I know right now. I might, I just might go on an official visit to Georgia. There’s nothing for sure yet.”

What about Auburn fans worried about Holsey visiting other schools? He said he’s still committed to Auburn and said, “I’m just going on the visits for the experience. I’ve never been to LSU or Florida State. I want to go and check out the campuses and everything.”

UPDATE: Kenno Loyal, a running back from Columbia High School, has committed to Ole Miss, according to Columbia coach Mario Allen. Loyal tried to commit to Auburn last spring.

Here’s video of Josh Holsey …

Todd Grantham is an embarrassment to Georgia, the SEC, and college football in general. No wonder he couldn’t last long in the NFL and had to take a college job on a sinking ship (working for a coach that will be fired at the end of the season). Last year, Grantham gave a choke sign caught on tape to a kicker during game like every mature 45-year-old (NOT!), then he tries to start a bench clearing brawl with Vanderbilt’s coach. Vandy’s coach? That’s REAL manly of you, Todd. That’s like picking on your little sister. He’s nothing more than a bully, and now you can see why Georgia’s players don’t behave, act like hotheads, and don’t play with any discipline (the penalty at the end of the SC game). It all starts with the clown at the top.

He did show a good bit of interest In UGA but we entered the race late after the Bonner incident. You got to show love to get love. Maybe we get 2nd chance.

Most of the kids aren’t in love with any particular school, they commit to the schools they have the best relationship with as far as coaches and players, who poses the best chance for playing times, who has the best potential for getting them in the NFL, and lastly education..
Everything else is secondary…

As a person who was honored to serve this country 18 years in the U.S. Army, I was very disappointed to read Coach Richt’s comments in the AJC this morning where he compared the game and the intensity … to “war.”

I have seen “war” my friends, and Georgia/Vanderbilt looked NOTHING like it. Bullets were NOT flying around while the teams we’re playing, and nobody was ever at risk of ending up in a body bag in a split second. I’ve always thought highly of Coach Richt, and that he was a good christian and family man. But comparing a sports game to “war” is dishonorable and disrespectful. He should make a public apology for those comments.

Both of you are wrong about what happened last night. The Vandy coach thought he’d give Shawn Williams a piece of his mind over a personal foul call during the game. Grantham heard it and told Franklin to keep his mouth closed. Franklin needs to leave the dressing-down of players to the coaches of those players. If anybody started anything, it was Franklin. All Grantham did was let him know he wasn’t going to stand for it. It’s called defending your players.

Mr. Fort Benning, Richt also downplayed his statement as he made it and referenced the fact there were not bullets flying around…..every high school coach in this country at some point in his career compares football to gonig to battle….it is obviously not the same thing, but in terms of teamwork the analogy is clear. With all due respect, sir, to call it dishonorable and disrespectful is a bit much. Remember that Richt visited the troops in Iraq in the offseason two years ago.

@ Fort Benning:

Get the shrapnel outta your eyes and stop being so sensitive. Richt did his best to qualify his comments as nothing compared to REAL war. He even stated something like not like with real bullets flying around. The comparison between football and war pre-dates any action you may have seen.

…me being a veteran, I find it odd that he says “I have seen war my friends….” Real veterans don’t brag about seeing war….the more I think about it, he said he’s seen it but not been in war that’s a HUGE difference in itself. I guess he watches CNN from his barracks.

RICHT AND BOBO are major donors to football programs. The problem is, it’s programs other than their own! No they don’t write checks, they just deliver players. Hey Alabama, need a couple of offensive lineman to lead you to a National Title? Well here you go. How about JAMES CARPENTER, an offensive tackle from Milledgeville, and CHANCE WARMACK, an offensive guard from Atlanta. They’ll enable you to take care of Texas, guaranteed! What’s that you say? Carpenter was taken as a 1st round pick in last year’s NFL draft? No Worries. Here’s 6′6″ 320 lb. Under Armour All American offensive tackle BRANDON GREENE, from Atlanta Cedar Grove. He’ll be another JAMES CARPENTER fot you. Hey Auburn, you say you haven’t won a National Title in a while? Here you go. Here’s the greatest Quarterback in the history of college football. Atlanta Westlake’s CAM NEWTON should do the trick. Coach Bobo and I evaluated him, and we don’t think he’s a quarterback anyway. We thinks he’s a TIGHT END. Coach Spurrier, You say you haven’t won the SEC Eastern Division Title in a while. Why don’t you let us help. Here’s Creekside’s ROKEVIOUS WATKINS, a 6′6″ 350 lb. Monster. He should help you kick our butts two years in a row, and will help you get to Atlanta! You say he’s going to the NFL after this year? Well let’s see what we can do to help. How about offensive guard JOE HARRIS aka “The Real Finisher” out of Lithonia? He should be a more than adequate replacement for Watkins, and should help you continue your dominance over us. Please contact me or Coach Bobo if we can be of further assistance . Sincerely, Coach Richt. P.S. It’s not just Crowell, I LOVE YOU ALL, especially Aaron!! It’s amazing all these so-called Bama (read Georgia Tech) fans on here criticizing UGA when they don’t even play each other. It’s pitiful that tech fans have to pose as fans of other schools. I suppose I don’t blame tech fans for being frustrated and hating on UGA’s coach. After all, tech is 1-9 against Mark Richt as a head coach and 0-9 against him as an assistant coach at FSU.

@Fort Benning IX,

You are seriously overreacting to Richt’s comments. He even went as far as to quantify that it wasn’t like real war with bullets flying. I too have had bullets fly over my head and around me as well in Desert Storm, Somalia, The current Iraq war and Afghanistan. So with 27 years of active duty and still counting, I think I qualify to say that you are wrong on this.

Hey Bama Fan, Please go back under the rock from which you crawled. Grantham was looking out for his player. That is what EVERY team wants from their coaches. Yours included. Alabama may win every so often but is the fact that they go on probation virtually more often than anyone else just coincidental? To sum up Alabama I am reminded of the spring game where donations were encouraged for all attendees to help tornado victims in the area. Over 90,000 people attended the game and $30,000 was collected. Do the math. That equates to about $0.30 per fan. Now that is true class !!!
