Kenyan Drake, Alabama RB recruit, stars in upset over No. 1-ranked team

Kenyan Drake, who is committed to Alabama, carried 24 times for 187 yards to lead Hillgrove High School to a 12-10 upset over McEachern, which was ranked No. 1 in the state’s largest classification. Drake also had a costly fumble.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Drake is an AJC Super 11 selection and committed to Alabama over Georgia Tech and UGA, among others, last February.

Here’s video of Drake …

He better watch Saban. It makes sense that Ohio State goes after him, he played college ball in Ohio and grew up on Big10 football coaching wise. If they’ll match the dollars and he doesn’t have to live in Tuscallosa, he’ll jump, he has every 5 years his whole career.

Why won’t the AJC write about Mark Richt being forced to keep Mike Bobo on his staff because he is Vince Dooley’s nephew by marriage?

Bama needs a great RB this year. This kid could get playing time next year if he does select Bama. Congrats to UGA for taking out the Vols.

After landing this Kenyan Drake and Brandon Greene, Saban will be sending Richt a Christmas present. I know you “can’t get them all”, but who in the world at Georgia decided not to go after these two – FULL BORE and in a TIMELY manner?! Why sign Greg Pyke instead of Brandon Greene? Pyke can’t be that much better. Heck, Greene was just named to the ARMY ALL-AMERICAN game, after being previously named an UNDER ARMOUR ALL-AMERICAN ! You have to wonder what it is about Pyke that Uga favors over the in-state kid? I think we all know the answer to that, don’t we. Anyhow, thanks Richt, thanks Bobo and THANKS UGA. We appreciate the studs. ROLL TIDE!

And the problem is by the time Richt decides to legitmately recruit a kid like Brandon Greene,it’s too late. There’s Alabama telling him “We were here first; We offered you first”. That means a lot to a kid, and is very difficult to overcome. Where is Richt when everyone else is completing their evaluations, and submitting their offers? I would guess the competitions’ take on Richt and Bobo is that they’re slow to react and that, if you move quickly, you can preempt them and beat them on these prospects.

I’ve seen Drake play three h.s. games. He is a fine young man who is faster than most high school players he competes against and can outrun the defense whenever he gets an opening.

However, UA has at least 25 players with the same speed. Kenyan is too small to play tailback; he’s not cut in the mold of UA backs who can take the SEC pounding. So where do you move him? He’s never played defense and Hillgrove doesn’t have a passer, so he’s never been a receiver except for screens and five yard dump-offs.

UGA has 15-20 players with the same or better speed. Let’s look at Justin Scott Wesley, fastest player on GA’s team. Why is he buried on the depth chart? For the same reason Drake will be buried on Bama’s depth chart for the next five years. You gotta have more than speed and Kenyan just doesn’t have the body frame to bulk up to Bama running back strength. I could be wrong, but it will take several years in the weight room to look like Trent Richardson.

There a lot of places this young man could go and enjoy playing a lot of college football, including many D-1 programs but not Alabama. He’ll be a great young man to have on the roster, never giving a moment’s problems, practicing well and making great grades, but he won’t be playing on Saturday. And that’s why UGA didn’t offer.

That said, I have no doubt the young man will do just great in life and that’s the most important thing.

Achtung… it’s the same lame posts every week.. your just the latest milkbrains to come along. Alabama won Championships (12 National 21 SEC) before Saban and will continue to do so long after he is gone. Stop acting like a woman and man up. Instead of hoping he leaves you should hope the UGA program continues to elevate its game and gets to Atlanta. Then they’ll have a shot to beat Saban and you’ll right run that pie hole. Roll Tide

I have been following Mceachern football for about 30 years and Drake is the best running back I have seen.He took a real beating by a very good defense ,but,he put a major hurt on the tacklers. We will be watching him play in the big SEC games the next few years. He reminds me of Adrian Peterson of the Vikings.I can’t believe Ga. let him get away.

Still bewildered why so many on here want to bash another team, coach or player for really no reason….As soon as you do that…what do you expect?…the supporters are going to defend their University, as they should…@Blackoutanyone…you should know by now, as well as I, that many of these guys that run their mouth on here have little knowledge of football or how to be respectful…As far as Coach Richt’s and our staff’s evaluation methods…yes we are somewhat different in our approach…doesn’t mean one is better than the other, just different methods…I think we have been pretty successful, but obvisously too many didn’t work out as the coaches thought…I don’t really believe its such a great issue as to who offers first, or last…In my opinion, a young man should be honored to have the opportunity for a Div 1 scholarship and shouldn’t really care who offered first..If that is really important to the young man, then I would say that he would not be much of a team player and be a “me” first player…Don’t know about you, but our program doesn’t need any more of those type….go dawgs….I hope we can handle Vandy as well as you guys..Will be a little tougher just based that it is their stadium and their coaches will have them fired up…Always do against the dawgs, regardless of their or our record…..

Oh, and for the guys that are worried about our offering or not offering some guys…the #1 Rb in the country…K. Marshall will be a dawg if Coach Richt is the dawgs coaching…I’d say that looks pretty good for now…Also, we have probably the #1 RB out of Florida committed to us also, yes, that could change, but from everything I have heard and been told, he is pretty solid to UGA….Coach Richt and staff will just fine in recruiting…We may be a step behind Bama at this point, but string together a few top recruiting classes in the same mold as last year and add the changes that have been made to the program in coaching, S&C, etc…and I believe there will be some very good results that are starting to emerge…No, we are not there yet, not in Bama’s or LSU’s class, but not many are at this point, are they?….go dawgs

@Achtung..not saying that “blackoutanyone?” is not a dig at the dawgs…see plenty of that on here..my point is that trading insults with fans that really love and support their University servea no purpose, regardless of the reason…I have had many conversations with “blackoutanyone?, and while i may not always agree with him nor he with me, I have no problems of defending the dawgs to him, as i have when i feel it is warranted, but I do no that he is and has been always civil and I enjoy reading his comments..He is all Bama, just as many are all Dawg, so to put Bama down or other programs, seems like a real waste of time….so don’t be shocked when they defend their program…

As far as Saban goes, I too get really tired of seeing the comments about him leaving all the time, just as I do about Coach Richt is on the Hot Seat and won’t be back next season…In my opinion those have become real old…If Saban leaves, I’m sure the Bama program will do just fine…they won’t lay down, neither will the dawgs or others, such as the gators, Tenn, SC….and if there are coaching changes, perhaps there will be some drop-off, but you can be sure these programs will do what it takes to get back to that level..point being here…Lets just shut-up about Coach Saban being out of here in 5 years…I mean who actually knows that…I sure don’t and I suspect neither does anyone on this blog….go dawgs….

Okay, I have thought about my earlier comments and have changed my mind. If the young man wants to go to Alabama, then I wish him well and hope he has a great career there. But I hope he is getting some wise counsel from his family and coaches. He has a future somewhere and he says in his video he really isn’t making the NFL his top priority, a refreshing change from most high school stars. I can think of a dozen great universities where he would have a fabulous football and academic career, but Bama is not one of them (academics?). Bama should stick to signing athletes only (and the best ones) because they don’t care about anything but football and this kid is better than that.

@Achtung…I beleive you might have misinterpreted my comments or I didn’t do a goo job of stating them….The civil and respectful comments I was pointing out had to do with many of the conversations between bloggers on here at times that that go overboard…..Not aiming this to any one person, just an observation from reading comments when one fan of one team says something about another and not expecting that a negative comment will be thrown back at them…then the process starts…Anyway, agree that Saban’s track record has been what you said, but Bama may be where he wants to stay…He difinitely has been put up on a petastal their, and has a good thing going….go dawgs
