UGA offers football scholarship to ‘The Finisher’ … Alabama, Florida and SC may be next

BREAKING NEWS: Lane Kiffin flashbacks? Vanderbilt coach recruits Atlanta in a helicopter! click here to read

The mean and nasty offensive lineman nicknamed “The Finisher” got his “dream offer” on Saturday.

UGA coach Mark Richt offered an early football scholarship to Walton High School’s Brandon Kublanow, who is likely the state’s No. 1 junior prospect on the offensive line. UGA offered the 6-foot-3, 280-pound Kublanow at the center and offensive guard position.

“As soon as we got to Georgia on Saturday, they said Coach Richt wants to see you,” Kublanow told the AJC. “My mom and I talked to Coach Richt for about 45 minutes. At the end of the conversation, [Richt] said ‘you have an offer from us and we really want you to come here.’

“I was a little surprised. Some people had told me that I might be getting an offer, but I was still surprised. And I’m really excited about it because Georgia was my dream offer.”

Did Richt try to get ‘The Finisher” to commit? “He said he knows it might be a while before I make a final decision. But whenever I’m ready, they are ready for me do it.”

Did Kublanow consider committing? “I thought about it a little bit during the game. But I want to look at other schools and check out my options before making a final decision. It’s still early, and once I make my decision, it’s over for me.”

Kublanow also has early offers from Georgia Tech and Duke.

Who will be next to offer? It could be Maryland this week. He is also a scholarship candidate at Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, Vanderbilt and Alabama.

“The Finisher” earned his nickname in recruiting circles after video circulated of him making pancake blocks, staying on the top of the defenders while on the ground, and then shoving the players’ helmets back into turf to make sure they were down – even though the play had passed by.

What do I think? You know how you might go to a high school game for teams you don’t care about just to see a top prospect at QB or RB? Kublanow is the only offensive lineman I can ever recommend who is worth the price of admission. Most high school offensive linemen quit on the play after initial contact. Kublanow is trying to destroy anybody and everybody he can until the whistle blows. I’ve never seen anything like it at the high school level. He is super nasty. He lacks prototypical height but more than makes up for it with his devastating blocking skills.

Congratulations on your scholarship offer from the University of Georgia, Brandon Kublanow.

When you do make your final decision, I hope it is to play for UGA.

Best wishes in your high school career, Brandon, and I hope to see you play in the Red-and Black, and Between-the-Hedges! .. Go Dawgs!

@Blackoutanyone?…I’m sure a lot more offers are coming his way before too long…Congrats on the win, or should I say the smackdown…No doubt about it, the SEC West is much stronger than the East in my opinion….Our dawgs are improving in many areas, but still are lacking up front on offense…Murray is getting killed and is being forced into some turnovers that will absolutely kill us as we get into the meat of our schedule….I don’t see anyone that can hang with you guys, other than LSU, and still not sure they can…I think in reality next season the dawgs will be closer to championship material, but the schedule gets tougher…But we have a shot this year, thats all you can hope for, so if we take care of business on the field, good things could happen…My honest opinion, though, no one in the East can handle Bama nor LSU up to this point….Again thanks for beating the gators…gives us a little help for now…go dawgs

Scout.com says he is 6/3 283 and that he holds offers from Duke and Vandy besides GT and UGA.
He attended camps at UGA and Vandy. I would assume they have the inside track.

“He lacks prototypical height…” Interesting comment. His height is perfect for GT’s offense. And if his height was a problem Richt would have never offered him.

dawgster… I’ve noticed interior linemen tipically don’t get offers this early in the process so I would imagine he is a stud. I think it’s a good omen for UGA fans for two reasons. One Richt is pulling the trigger on an offer to a 2013 kid. Would’ve never happened 2 years ago. Have to be able to evaluate talent and in many cases project talent several years before these kids ever step on campus. Richt has always crossed me as a great recruiter of skill positions. As you known…you win and loose in the SEC at the line of scrimmage. You need stud O-linemen and as much depth at that position as you can get. If UGA beats UT I think you guys run the table. SC will lose @Arky. UF has problems if Brantley is out. UGA vs Bama in Atlanta would be alot of fun.

If UGA is his dream offer, then it sounds like he is a lock for UGA. Now it is time to play the game to count the offers and visit other schools on their dime. Then stick it to em in the end and commit to the school everyone knew you were going to commit to anyway – UGA.

@Blackoutanyone…you are right, the dawgs inferior play on the O-line and D-lines are troublesome, we addressed some of issues last recruiting season, but are still behind the 8-ball with the O-line…some of it was just bad luck and attrition…but alot of it had to do with the evaluation of some…Of course you really never know until they get on campus, everyone we recruited were pretty much recruited by the top programs, but we haven’t done a great job in coaching them up for some reason, and that really is unexcusable….On another note…in an interview with K. Marshall the nations #1 RB, he says he has always been a dawg fan since middle school and wanted to play for the dawgs, but at this point he will do what is best for him regardless of the school….I believe he is someone we desperately need to add depth at RB and based on his quotes, us having Crowell makes no difference…Sounds like he has no problem with competition…What a 1-2 punch that would be…There are still some other players, but from what I have heard from several people and basically some things that he says, he will be a dawg…but still along ways till NSD…He is planning to make his decision in Dec..Also carries a 4.3 GPA…very intelligent young man, would be a great addition to any school….go dawgs

@really…you sir are the one that should go sell that somewhere else..I can assure you most true dawg fans support this coaching staff…yet you would have us believe that the few on these blogs that make negative comments about Coach Richt are the majority…’really”…There are 92,000 fans in Sanford Stadium pouring their heart and soul out for this team with their support, but because you make absurd remarks based on blogging comments, that is supposed to carry weight…What I will add is yes there are some concerns from many of us alumni and former players, but I can assure you its not going to get resolved on an AJC blog…..When the season plays out, then and only then will the program be evaluated….Now go sell your absurd stuff somewhere else, please….go dawgs

@really…please tell us someone at UGA that has come out and said that Coach Richt is on the so called “Hot Seat” What i have heard from Greg(AD) and President Adams is that all our programs are evaluated at the end of every season….Yes, there are many fans that believe it would be better for Coach Richt to be dismissed, but not sure where you get that the majority do…Perhaps the people you run with do or based on some AJC article from a so called journalists whose job it is to stir up the pot….Maybe you can actually take a poll and see what his numbers are….At the end of the season we will know if Coach Richt’s seat is/was hot or not, but not based on some blog comments….Not sure why Coach Richt cannot get the support and respect from some if not for anything else, at least for the record he has had at UGA…Do you even have a clue of where we were or the last time we won anything before Coach Richt took over the program….Perhaps ;you do and just have forgotten….Is everyone happy about the past two years…NO….neither are the players or coaches…there have been several things done in effort to turn things around, but for gosh sakes see how the season plays out before you continue with your bashing of the program…The one thing I do know is that you are the type of ‘FAN” that will jump right back on the bandwagon when this program gets things turned around..Why not at least support the team and coaches for the remainder of the season and then I will be more than happy to have you come on here and tell me and others “you told me so”…but we are still in the SEC East race and have 7 or 8 games left to play…..go dawgs
