South Carolina still leads for DB Chaz Elder, followed by UGA and Vandy

Chaz prediction?

Remember about a month ago when Chaz Elder was scheduled to announce between UGA and South Carolina and decided at the last minute to delay?

Fast forward to now and things are just about the same: The defensive back from Banneker High School has South Carolina as his leader, followed by UGA and Vanderbilt. Elder will likely pick a school toward the end or after his senior season.

“For the most part, it’s the same three schools with everybody chasing South Carolina … nothing has changed,” Banneker assistant Ryan Andrews said.

UGA had a chance to plead its case when Elder made an unofficial visit for the South Carolina game. That was likely Elder’s only recruiting trip during the season because Banneker has construction at the school, forcing it to move games to Saturdays at a neutral location.

Elder is back to health after missing two games with an ankle injury. In three games, Elder has 18 total tackles, 2 pass breakups and an interception he returned 25 yards for a touchdown.

What about the rumors about Tennessee jumping into the picture? “That’s just message board rumors, nothing there,” said Andrews, adding that Arizona State is trying to break into Elder’s top three.

Calling all Recruits…UGA has plenty of positions for immediate playing time. But only if you want to play with heart, tenacity, and stamina. Let the best of GA’s high school talent…be represented at our instate institutions!! Hunker Down in school, life, and the gridiron!!

First, let’s get this out of the way. This blog is NOT the reason a kid won’t come to Athens. This blog does not coach the team. This blog doesn’t decide who to recruit to Athens. This blog is not responsible for any aspect of the management or running of the Georgia program. But, In this new world of 24/7 info, I would say that 80%, maybe more of what you read or hear about the Georgia program is NOT positive, from ANY source, local or Nationally. Until we start winning big games or get some resolve to Richt’s future, you will see stories like this weekly. That’s where we are in Athens, like it or not.

Come to UGA and Transfer when Richt gets FIRED.

Kid what is the RUSH. Wait until the season is over and see what happens. All coaches say they only have 2 slots for scholarships at your position. Don’t buy it. Coaches want the BEST they can get, If that is you they will make room. The rate UGA players are jumping ship you will have the dawg coaches BEGGING you to come to Athens.

What championship has South Carolina’s football program won? Surely you are not referring to the ACC championship in 1969.

5150, this is a serious question. I know for a fact that there has been a direct pipeline to Baggage handling jobs for ex Tech football players at Air Tran ( good paying jobs by the way for those guys, like 18-20 bucks an hour) when their eligibility is up. Has the purchase of them by Southwest Air messed that up. My brother tells me there are 15 or so Tech guys there.

Georgia has better DBs still on the their board. If he wants to go to Georgia he should wait and see how things shake out and if there will be a scholarship still available for him.

harold, south kakalacka hasn’t won championship 1. How can you say that? Spurrier won championships at UF but hasn’t won anything but a division (once) at SC. Don’t get too excited until you actually WIN a championship son.

When did SC when a Championship? Are you counting a 4 loss season that got you to the Championship game where you were crushed. Spurrier is gone in a couple of years and you then become even less relevant than you were with Holtz!

11:21 am

The cocks barely beat Navy and Garcia threw 3 picks last week and was never replaced. Why? Because they don’t have anybody else. They’re doomed next year without him and Jeffrey. This is Spurrier’s last chance at glory and then he’ll take his dyed hair, visor and play golf now that he qualifies for Medicare. Garcia has been suspended 5 times but Spurrier is so desperate to go out on top, he keeps giving him chances.Compromising on discipline will doom him this year for a championship.

harold get back with me on your lille common sense breakdown after the season is over. My question is why would Georgia even be recruiting a player that is considering SC over Ga? Crap if it is coming down to beating him out for the like’s of SC and Vandy, I say good riddence. Bon Vor Ache. Tell mama help ya pack your bags. Son if you are from Georgia and are having a hard time choosing between SC and Ga, then you just need to move on and go to SC, because we sure as heck don’t need players at Georgia like that.

This is typical since there is uncertainty with Richt’s future. If UGA makes a change causing a 17 year old to panic and go somewhere else, fine. Getting the right HC for one recruiting class is a bargain. Besides, there are enough good players in the state, and I’m sure the Georgia staff (either current or new) will be able to find 25 kids who want to be at Georgia.

@xl dawg – you are correct – USC has become a very competitve program – but, being USC, we still have to win more consistently. Look at last year – we played amazing at times and won the SEC EAST! Beat then #1 Alabama – throttled Clemson – which is always fun – but choked in the SEC Title game and was not prepared against FSU.

Also, Spurrier maybe gone in a few years – but the footings of our program are in much better shape – thanks to Lou Holtz and now Steve Spurrier.

In fact, our program is in much better shape than the one in Athens. Beating UGA 2 years in a row – getting more national publicity – and being in the mix is a lot better than UGA’s current situation of moving backward. USC is more respected – yet, I know that can change.

So, what about UGA?
I personally think UGA will beat MSU this weekend – and go on and win 8 or 9 games this year.
I think UGA’s potential losses will be
I think UGA will get blown out by Florida.
I think USC will have a hard time against Florida.

However, that is down the road – this Saturday – it’s all about Auburn – and I think the GAMECOCKS will win.

How I would recruit for UGA

September 29th, 2011
1:39 pm

My top needs for UGA in 2012:

Head Coach
Offensive Line Coach
Offensive CoOrdinator
QB Coach
Receivers Coach
Special Teams Coach

Fill these slots and UGA ought to get well.

UGA class of 71 & 73

Harold….We’re still laughing at your statement about Columbia and S. Carolina….its clear you don’t get out much….This kid has no clue if he’s been led to believe that S.Carolina has “turned the corner” and is a championship program…just what the hell have they won? They barely beat a Georgia team that everyone agrees is not very good right now. Come see me when you win on a consistent basis..until then your program is second tier in the eyes of the majority of the SEC and Nation…..Championship program…LOL..LOL..LOL..LOL

If he wants to be a Dawg, then he will be. If not, the good news is we have 2 extra scholarships available it looks like to offer to players we want and pickup another OL or that receiver from SC or NC if we want him or somebody else. Wish Malcome would stick around but its all GREAT at RB the next several years without injuries. Thats why he’s leaving.

ok, truce.

Whatever happened to the run Samuel/Crowell behind the big FB Figgins on the sweep? That’s a lot of meat coming at you for 60 minutes.

What happens when Crowell gets hurt? If his attitude is right and he is willing to work, I think that I would like to have a Malcome option rather than have to depend on Shoestring Sam and Mighty Nat for a running game. At least it gives some more interesting options. I also like using Boykin in special situations and am not at all opposed to Branden Smith or Malcolm Mitchell on wilddawg/end around (noticed what FL is going with Rainey and Leaks-a couple of gnats at 5′ 7″ and 5′ 8″).

It also seems that the pass can be used to set-up the run and I would like to see a short passing game developed with the tight ends. Orson is a beast. We need to put the ball in his hands. Figgins also looked good catching out of the backfield. I also like Crowell getting the ball in open space. Lot of options but not much depth (which is what Malcome could provide until we get some help at rb next year).
