Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory never gave up on recruiting Tony Parker and it has paid off.

Parker, who is ranked among the nation’s top 25 college basketball prospects, will take an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech on Saturday. The 6-foot-9, 270-pound Parker is a senior power forward from Miller Grove High School.

“Tony has never discounted the local schools,” Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC. “You have to give a lot of credit to Coach Gregory and his staff with sticking with him. Tony will be going over there on Saturday, looking around campus, and listening to what they have to say.”

Parker is also in the process of setting up a visit to UGA. His Miller Grove teammate, small forward Brandon Morris, committed to UGA a couple of weeks ago.

Duke and Ohio State are considered the frontrunners for Parker, who was scouted in person by Duke’s Coach K on Monday. Parker has already made a recruiting trip to Ohio State, and has official visits set up for Duke and UCLA within the next month.

You have to like what you see so far out of the new coach; of course we have not seen the team play as of yet but I am very encouraged thus far…

It would be nice if you had a headline about Tech without a mention of UGA.

Curious about the in home GT visit with Carter, in whose home will that visit take place? Isn’t Carter living with his AAU coach? Isn’t that AAU coach’s son on scholarship at GT? That’s the rumor so perhaps Michael Carvell might inquire and let the readers know.

How about the lad’s scholastics? Is he qualified to do the Tech load? I know, I know, Duke wants him, but even Duke has some majors less-than-exceptional students can handle.
Unless everyone has just assumed he’ll play a max of 2 years and ship out for the NBA.

Still laughing you’re an idiot. We may not get Parker but we’ll get Carter…UGA has no shot at either and will always be irrelevant.

Tech has a slim chance...but

Georgia Tech and Georgia will have a slim chance at signing Tony Parker. If you know Miller Grove, both UGA and Tech, have former high school teamates of Parker. UGA has power forward Donte Williams, who redshirted last season as a freshman; while Georgia Tech has former Miller Grove point guard Mfon Udofia on its roster. Both players are expected to start or contribute significant minutes to their respective teams this season. Don’t be surprised if Tony stays in state. My thoughts, it will depend on where Shaq lands. I think he will go to OSU or UGA.

GT71 @11:59
Please, are you kidding? Stop it with the academics BS, that’s wayyyyyyy old and proven to be bogus. “is he qualified to do the Tech load?” Is he breathing? Good grief buddy, GT took Crittenton, GT admitted a footbal player in the current Fr class who couldn’t enter Auburn a year ago due to not meeting NCAA minimum eligibility standards. You GT supporters DO NOT have any higher academic entrance requirements for athletes than Georgia, Auburn, Alabama nor anyone else.

If GT signs Carter it may have something to do with his AAU coach whose son left FSU in June after riding the end of the bench for 3 yrs, and was then put on basketball scholarship at GT. Carter is from Thomasville yet suddenly transferred to Gwinnett Co and Shiloh HS, at the recommendation of his AAU coach. Prior to that GT was not on his list, not even on the horizon, nowhere to be found. Something smells a bit with this situation. Thomasville is 30 mi from the FSU campus, a school he clearly favored, now he’s 225 miles away at a new HS for his Sr yr. Strange.

Coach Gregory seems to be working hard in recruiting. That’s good to see. I was a little worried of a recruiting drop off after Hewitt left.

Coach Gregory and his staff seem to really be working hard at recruiting. There is little doubt that this coming season is going to be a struggle. That being said, it is very encouraging to see Coach Gregory hitting the recruiting trail so hard. Good to see and GO JACKETS!!!!

I would much rather have Goodwin over parker. Parker right now is just bigger than everyone else and i ‘m worried about how he will play against guys that are his same size, While Goodwin is a way better athlete…. But only time will tell. I still think the Parker kid goes to Duke, Goodwin to UGA and maybe the Fumble bees get Carter. That way everyone wins. As a Dawg fan give me one of the big 3 and i’m content. If we get two i’ll be shocked.
