Maryland WR commit AJ Liddell transfers schools, on UGA’s recruiting radar

Wide receiver AJ Liddell, who is committed to Maryland, is on UGA’s recruiting radar.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder said he talked with UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner after the Bulldogs recently lost a commitment at wide receiver, with Flowery Branch’s CJ Curry flipping from UGA to Oklahoma State.

“I was surprised to hear from Georgia; I thought they were done recruiting at wide receiver,” Liddell told the AJC. “Coach Garner said he likes the way I play wide receiver. He said I have the size and speed they are looking for, and that they like how I catch difficult balls. They didn’t offer me a scholarship or anything. He pretty much just wanted to let me know that they are paying attention to me.”

What if UGA offered? “I don’t know, I’m committed to Maryland. Georgia is a good school, I’d listen to what they had to say.”

Other schools are still actively recruiting Liddell, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds and has a 3.0 GPA. He recently got written scholarship offers from Vanderbilt and UConn, among others. Liddell said he talks to Maryland every other week, and plans to attend a Terrapins game next month.

Liddell started his senior season at Chapel Hill High School, but said he transferred to Westlake last week after his family moved. Liddell said Westlake officials told him that he can begin practicing with the team on Tuesday and that he will be eligible to play later this week.

Glad to see he’s open to listening to UGA for a position-of-need. .. Go Dawgs!

I’m not surprised to hear about the Dawgs looking at AJ. He’s legit. If he had played as a junior for a High school with a higher profile, he’d have 20 offers. He’s a big kid who can run, and is already qualified. Good luck to Maryland with keeping him.

WOW, I can see why the state of Georgia education system is terrible. It’s reading comprehension people!!

cadawg- CJ Curry de-committed a few weeks ago
ATLDawg, ya dig?- UGA was full at the WR position therefore there was not an avaliable scholarship avaliable until CJ Curry de-committed.

The kid reminds me of another WR about that size. Good hands, elusive, high draft pick.

Georgia needs to stop waiting to the last minute to offer good kids scholarships. I’m a UGA fan but we need to get out front so that these kids feel the LOVE so they will stay in state. to many kids say that UGA and gt wait to long to make an offer which turns them off.

Destin dash. You post that comment what 10 Times a week. If you are going by a ranking from parade magazine (from what ten years ago) to validate the educational value of UGA your school is in trouble.

Why don’t you Google this years just released rankings from the USA Today that parents, students and every U.S. academic mind use. I saw were thereof state schools rank and I don’t think you want to quote it
