Brandon Morris commits to UGA over Auburn and Arkansas

UGA added another homegrown talent from the state of Georgia on Monday.

Brandon Morris committed to UGA after making an official visit with the Bulldogs over the weekend. The 6-foot-7 small forward from Miller Grove High School also had Auburn and Arkansas as his finalists.

“I had a list of things that I wanted in college, and Georgia was a great fit,” Morris told the AJC. “I fit in perfect with the roster they’ve got, and I have a chance to compete for early playing time … This was a good decision for me.

“After my visit to Georgia, I didn’t see the need to take official visits to anywhere else. Why go far away to play college basketball when there’s a great program this close to home? I called Coach Fox to let him know, and he said I made his day. He was really happy about my commitment, as am I.”

UGA now had three commitments for its 2012 college basketball recruiting class and all three are from Georgia. The others are a pair of guards, Whitefield Academy’s Kenny Gaines and Milton’s Charles Mann.

Georgia has at least one more scholarship spot available and is trying to lure one of the “Big Three” – three power forwards from Georgia who are ranked among the nation’s top 25 overall college basketball prospects: Southwest DeKalb’s Shaq Goodwin, Miller Grove’s Tony Parker, and Shiloh’s Robert Carter. Out of the “Big Three” only Goodwin has scheduled an official visit with UGA.

Fox is a genius. Too bad he’ll get snatched up by a big-time program in the next two years.

Oh yes. Great commit. Fox is doing a fantastic job rebuilding the program. Can’t wait for the season to begin. People are ging to take notice this year, even without Trey and Leslie.

I dont think Fox is going anywhere for a while. He has not even won anything of significance at UGA yet.

Morris is an outstanding player and knows what it takes to win. I like this trend of signing top in state players from very good programs. These players will play with a little more pride being from Ga. Caldwell is aso a big time player. Watch. One of the big three makes this a great class for 2012.

Glad to see some of the best talent staying in state. Best of luck to the young man (except that one game a year against the Jackets). Architecture is no joke, but if that is something is he interested in, I wish him the best in his pursuit of both. Talented individuals like this are worthy of praise.

I’m pumped Morris decided to stay in state and play for UGA. The kid is very talented and I believe under rated. I had a chance to watch him throughout the state playoffs last season and he dominated. He outshined Tony Parker in my opinion. He ended up beating my alma mater Rockdale high school for the state championship. Can’t wait to see you in Red and Black Brandon! Good choice!

Way to go Brandon. I think a lot of schools slept on this kid because he is a smooth, slashy lefthander that is very hard to defend. I got a chance to watch these guys for the last couple of years and even throughout the summer. Brandon and Tony make a great combo and it would be nice if Ga had a Fab 5 but I think Tony is going on to Big Time basketball like an Ohio St or Georgetown because he is a beast. Once again congrats Brandon!!!
