You’re a pretty big deal if you’re a high school kid and the head coach of the reigning BCS champion shows up at your football game the night before his own team’s season-opener.

Jordan Jenkins, the AJC Super 11 member who is a candidate to be Georgia’s No. 1-ranked prospect, is a pretty big deal.

On Friday night, Auburn coach Gene Chizik made a personal appearance at Harris County High School to observe the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Jenkins. Tennessee assistant Lance Thompson was also in the stands for the game.

Auburn has gained ground with Jenkins in recent weeks. Alabama and Florida are the frontrunners for Jenkins, while Auburn moved up and is now “battling it out with UGA for third.”

Jenkins likes Auburn because of the program’s success, its proximity to his home (only an hour from Harris County), and the friendships he has developed with the Auburn coaches and players, including Georgia natives Gabe Wright and Jeffrey Whitaker. Auburn also scored points with Jenkins by offering his Harris County teammate, junior DL Jay Ellison. (read more)

Jenkins will return the favor to Chizik next week, as he is scheduled to make his first unofficial visit of the fall to watch Auburn vs. Mississippi State.

What about official visits? Jenkins has tentatively set up recruiting trips to Auburn for Oct. 15, Alabama for Nov. 5, UGA for Nov. 12, and Florida for Nov. 26.

As many may remember, Jenkins had an epic battle with UGA 5-star OL recruit John Theus at July’s “Dawg Night” (click on story link)

I think with the recruitment of J.J. Adkins, the DAWGS don’t have to spend as much time recruiting him now. It would still be nice to have him, but the young man that did verbally commit to UGA seems to me to be a pretty good player as well. If his buddies want him at Auburn, good luck to the kid. I think he is more concerned about what will help him get to the NFL than what degree he gets anyway.
The UGA band wagon isn’t going to wait for a player that ranks them 3rd or 4th, even if he is a homey. That is being realistic about this recruiting game. The offer is there and it is up to the kid.

Who was that guy behind Gene Gene standing in the shadows? Must have been the bagman or the fella in charge of payoffs? You know Gene is keeping Trooper away. The NCAA has a guy tailing him 24/7.

If we can add Watkins to the DL recruits we already have verbals from and Whitehead as our future OLBer pass rusher I think we would all be happy. I hope we signed a couple of ILBers.

Florida and Georgia have 36 guys in NFL, Auburn and Alabama only 26. Its a no brainer, Florida or Georgia.

Don’t go to Alabama unless you want to play for Smart as your head coach, Saban’s just a carpetbagger. Of course, if he loses to Auburn AGAIN, he may leave 1 step ahead of those brick throwing, tree murdering fans.

That’s what happens when you schedule Utah State to open up the season. Good luck with your decision Mr. Jenkins, just don’t believe the baloney that cheese-dip is selling. GO DAWGS!

Glad to see Coach Chizik is on the scene in person. Last year he only visited two HS player’s games in person. Top-rated DT Gabe Wright, Columbus Carver and the nation’s #2 safety, Erique Florence, Valley Alabama, both signed with Auburn,. Go gettum Coach Chizik!

The real reason Chizik went in person to Carver-Columbus was to try and get Isaiah Crowell. Fail.

Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and UGA? Carvell, you continue to label us as an initials school. Are you too lazy to type GEORGIA???? If Georgia is going to be UGA because you are too lazy to type GEORGIA why not save yourself some keystrokes by using these initials AU, UF, UA, UT, GT?

Auburn’s D is worse this year than last year, and they were BAD last year. One year does not make you a success either. Auburn will go 7-5 this year if they manage to squeak out a victory over the mighty UTAH STATE AGGIES.

Pick Florida or Georgia, young man.

Let’s all keep track of how long Coach Cheez-it keeps up the ‘all in’ thing. To me it’s the term they coined in response to their attorneys’ charge of ‘You have to act, in every way, every day, as if you are innocent. Otherwise people will ‘know’ you lied and are guilty as sin’. So he’ll show up and recruit, and he’ll meet with AU boosters, and the press, and the NCAA and continue to say, ‘All we know is that there’s no proof they we or the Newtons did anything wrong’…and, oh yeah, ‘We’re all in!’

Maybe Chizik should have been looking at Utah State film. What a joke he and the Auburn program are. They got lucky in finding a difference-making JUCO transfer who was simply one of the most dominant players in the history of college football. Chizik is hated by alot of people, especially the group in Ames, Iowa. I bet they are laughing right now.

3:35 pm

@RRTDawgs…Yea they do seem to have things go their way, but I expect this year is going to be a little tougher for them…but that onside kick was perfectly placed, but the Utah players backed up instead of taking on the Au players…allowed the Au player to penetrate and catch the ball…

dawgster

September 3rd, 2011
3:43 pm

Of course what we don’t know at this point in the season is how good Utah St is or will be so it may turn out to be a good win when all is said and done….I guess i got caught up in seeing all the Au fans leave and seeing how pumped the Utah St players were in being premature in my prediction that it was over…I should know better and I do, but it didn’t look very good….Teams like Utah St and others need to realize that you play for sixty minutes if you want to beat a team such as Au..I believe the last few minutes they found that out…

@Blackoutanyone?…Not sure what to make of that game, but won’t be any BCS or SEC championships for Au this year I believe…But right now, can’t really say a whole lot, the dawgs have a lot to prove this season but Au looks vulnerable…Bama looked pretty good, but the QB situation won’t be decided anytime soon….what do you think?…
