You’re a pretty big deal if you’re a high school kid and the head coach of the reigning BCS champion shows up at your football game the night before his own team’s season-opener.
Jordan Jenkins, the AJC Super 11 member who is a candidate to be Georgia’s No. 1-ranked prospect, is a pretty big deal.
On Friday night, Auburn coach Gene Chizik made a personal appearance at Harris County High School to observe the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Jenkins. Tennessee assistant Lance Thompson was also in the stands for the game.
Auburn has gained ground with Jenkins in recent weeks. Alabama and Florida are the frontrunners for Jenkins, while Auburn moved up and is now “battling it out with UGA for third.”
Jenkins likes Auburn because of the program’s success, its proximity to his home (only an hour from Harris County), and the friendships he has developed with the Auburn coaches and players, including Georgia natives Gabe Wright and Jeffrey Whitaker. Auburn also scored points with Jenkins by offering his Harris County teammate, junior DL Jay Ellison. (read more)
Jenkins will return the favor to Chizik next week, as he is scheduled to make his first unofficial visit of the fall to watch Auburn vs. Mississippi State.
What about official visits? Jenkins has tentatively set up recruiting trips to Auburn for Oct. 15, Alabama for Nov. 5, UGA for Nov. 12, and Florida for Nov. 26.
As many may remember, Jenkins had an epic battle with UGA 5-star OL recruit John Theus at July’s “Dawg Night” (click on story link)
