Ray Buchanan Jr., son of the former NFL Pro Bowler, committed to Arkansas on Saturday.

The 5-foot-11, 176-pound defensive back from Peachtree Ridge High School picked Arkansas over Ole Miss. Arkansas was the first school to offer Buchanan, and that made a huge impression.

“I talked to a lot of former and current players, and they all said they really loved it at Arkansas,” Buchanan told the AJC. “It’s an exciting atmosphere for college football, and a great place to get a degree.”

Buchanan said he has a 3.3 GPA and will major in Criminal Justice or Engineering.

Like his famous father, Buchanan plays defensive back. The elder Buchanan played college football at Louisville and then in the NFL for 12 seasons, including from 1997-2003 for the Atlanta Falcons. Buchanan famously exchanged trash talk with Shannon Sharpe before Super Bowl XXXIII against the Denver Broncos.

I congratulate the young man. I love his pedigree as a football player and hate that UGA limits itself on the CB prospects to height. Would have loved to had seen the young man in Red and Black. Hard to believe his Dad the former Falcon let his son go to a program that did the Falcons the way he did though. Integrity is not a strong suit of Petrino to say the least.

Congrats. But you sure could have picked anybody but Petrino to play for! Hope you become an All-American.

Very disappointed in GPTV for allowing this circus to go on during their broadcast. GHSA shouldn’t allow this to happen. Mess like this is why the NCAA is in trouble. The kid should have been with his teammates getting ready to play and not with his daddy making this announcement.

Love the RBJ commit! This kid is very talented. It’s funny how you Falcon fans act like you personally know Bobby Petrino. And every premier athlete commits to colleges like RBJ did. Please refresh me on how your boy Crowell committed.

Isn’t it against NCAA rules to talk to former players from a college? If I recall, former players cannot recruit high school students to their alma mater or am I incorrect?

Razor, a coach doesn’t clean out his office and not tell anyone and leave. He was unprofessional in the way he did it. Way to go Ray Jr. get a good education!!!!

It blows my mind that a parent would let their kid play for a miserable, unscrupulous, gutless piece of human garbage like Petrino. His repeated actions show a lack of class, honor, dignity, and courage that make it impossible to find any redeeming qualities what so ever!

Razor…….I didn’t know Ronald Reagen or JFK but I respected them. Leaving a photo copy note with a stamped signature to your team is a good clue to a coaches integrity. You either have courage or you don’t. petrino does not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am confused with these comments about his dad. This is a young man who has earned a scholarship based on his skill not his dad. Why is there even any discussion about his father on this blog. Congrats Ray Jr and good luck.
