Tennessee vs. Mississippi State for Norcross WR Jason Croom

One of Georgia’s top football prospects at wide receiver will announce his college decision before Norcross High School’s season-opener against Dacula on Thursday.

Jason Croom will decide between Tennessee and Mississippi State among his 17 early scholarship offers around 3 p.m. on Thursday. Croom was a member of Norcross High’s state championship basketball team last season but will focus on football only in college.

“The colleges love his ability,” Norcross coach Keith Maloof said. “He’s big, he’s 200 pounds. He’s 6-foot-5 and he can run. He can get behind the secondary. He can run the possession routes. He can block outside on the corners. Just about everything he does is good.”

Croom talked about his two finalists. “With Mississippi State, I like the coaches, the players and facilities. It’s like one big family. They are in a spread offense and they feel like I could do some big things in it.”

“With Tennessee, when I first went down to visit, I really liked it in and out. My mom has been in contact with them throughout the whole recruiting process. When they finally offered, we went down there and really enjoyed it.”

Note: How good is Jason Croom? You can watch him yourself on WSB-TV “Thursday Night Football” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. It’s Norcross vs. Dacula on Channel 2.2, WSB-T ’s second digital channel. You can also watch games live on wsbtv.com and watch the rebroadcast Friday nights at 1:06 a.m. on Channel 2. No offers from Georgia, Florida, and surprisingly Alabama. Must be some red flags if Saban didn’t offer.

Any minute now folks are going to start crying about uga not offering this kid! Nevermind the fact that the #1 wr in virginia has uga in his top 10 and will be on campus this weekend, or the fact that the top juco wr has uga in his top 3!

I really like this kid….sick that he won’t be a dawg…well at least a Ga Dawg. Hope he picks Ms State. Would hate to face him if he is a Vol. Good kid and top athlete.

Is it just me or is Tennessee getting all the 6′4 or 6′5 receivers with sub 4.5 speed? From the look at his offers overall, there must be an issue with either grades or SAT/ACT scores or something else.

Tennessee is North.

Get some sleep tireddawg. You shouldn’t lose sleep over a 17 year old. FYI UGA will not sign about 150 D1 athletes from the great state of Georgia. They will sign around 20 and they will be gooduns.

Cmon Man, I agree. Probably the same ones who griped and complained about UGA not going after Markeith Ambles. Guess what guys? Markeith Ambles is academically ineligible at USC. He has been nothing but trouble at USC.

Come on slydog. Ga has again erred on not offering to Croom. Not sure if he would have been a dawg or not but don’t knock this ked about sat’act when you know nothing. He has an impressive list. Florida State, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Illiois, Louisville, Connecticut, Michigan, Michigan State….yep must have problems with the grades. Grow up. This is a good Ga kid.

Here’s the deal. I have seen film on this kid and I wish Auburn was getting him…not that I am complaining about the class we are getting. But I see him being a very special player for Ms State or TN…whoever gets him. I do find it amusing when a Ga player signs elsewhere….they just don’t need him. Or he must be a problem kid or grades….whatever. Good kid from all accounts. Why can’t you guys just wish him the best and not result to 1st grade mentality.

How many damn receivers do you people want? UGA signed 4 last year and are potentially signing 4 this year (Lonnie Outlaw, Blake Tibbs, Nelson Agholor, and Joel Caleb).

Hate to agree with an Auburn Tiger but you’re right on aubie tiger. I do wish this kid the best of luck and to say that he wasn’t offered by GA because of his grades or character flaws is simply baseless. With that said, all schools have negative fans but it’s important to realize that we’re talking about a kid and his future here; not what he can do for your beloved football team. UGA will get our players and we don’t need to be concerned with landing “every” recruit.

You people are amazing. Do you think people here in Arkansas went nuts when Petrino didn’t land Zac Brooks (4 star WR from Arkansas committed to Clemson)? No they didn’t post all sorts of non sense saying UGA is a sleep at the wheel, or they are losing recruits left and right.

At the risk of ATL Sports Fan losing it over another fan wishing we could get Croom…I will go ahead. No, we can’t get them all. And we don’t even know if he would take our offer if given…we do lose some don’t week. BUT, I like everything I have heard about him….and everything I have seen about him. He will be very good. But I am mostly happy with what we are getting….whether we can coach them is another story.

I don’t think Dooley (Vols) would be recruiting someone right now with grade or behavioral issues…..but not so sure about MSU. Also, maybe the kid just wasn’t interested in Florida, Bama, Auburn, etc….and told them so….or maybe his mom told them so.

P.S. Words from Jaye Howard, Florida’s potential all-SEC DL, when asked by reporters on how Brantley is looking in practice:

“John Branley has been tearing it up in practice. It would not surprise me if he won the Heisman this year.”

Well….maybe not the Heisman, Jaye, but his improved play at QB could make the difference in the Gators winning or not winning the SEC East. Time, only, will tell.

TampaGator

I know all the Georgia fans are excited this summer….but Bray at Tennessee, I think, will end up being the best QB in the SEC this year. He is very talented and a for sure future NFL QB, I think. I would also think WR recruits would be very interested in teaming up with him, particularly after this year.

I am, personally, very worried about the Gators not taking the Vols seriously in THE SWAMP. The Vols are going to pull some upsets this year….and I think Dooley is a very good HC.

The top recruits from Georgia are now mostly going to schools outside of the state. What does that tell you? UGA has serious problems and is on the way down to the level of Kentucky and Vandy.

Tim H.

Bama only wants to make offers to the cream of the crop and although Croom is good he isn’t at the level Saban looks for. Any recruit knows if he goes to Bama he has a very good chance of winning the NC and he is playing for the best coach in college football.

Atlanta Vol

Typical Ga fans saying something must be wrong. Here is the deal . Georgia is only great in the minds of Athens fans. Go outside the state and your dogs are no better than Miss State bulldogs. Kids outside of Ga dont see them on National TV unless its against UF where you lose every year since the recruit was born.

@reddawg Grow up? I’m a grown azz man. Let me be more specific then. If he is one of the best in the state, then why no offer from Alabama, Auburn, or Florida? All of those other schools are not bastions of academics, and for most of those schools, winning football either…lol. Maybe he has family or other connections to the respective states these schools belong in. It was just an opinion based off of analysis of other players who have committed so far. You act like I dissed the kid or something… hahahhaha Troll the haters, not me.

TampaGator I hope you are right but Bray has a lot of Vol fans REALLY worried right now. Word is he has not looked good in the scrimmages so far and had an awful spring game.

Hopefully he is more of a “gamer” than a practice player but that’s why they play the games.

Anapooolisys Really? Tradition at UGA?

August 18th, 2011

The UGA tradition is accepting anyone regardless of grades, remember the S from Statesboro, that couldn’t get out of high school and uga was trying to play him in colllege games, Ealey, King…….50% in remedial and still 6-7. The preseason bragging and the in season excuse making, lol.
And the greates tradition of all, LOSING TO FLORIDA.

Murray is better than Bray, I like my cornerbacks tall, but my quarterbacks short, easier to swallow. I need a raise, after all I held the best Florida offense in 50 years to 35 points and I totally shut down that high school offense of GT only allowing 34 points. All this with an apathetic (sorry dog fans, that means not enthusiastic) fan base, bad recruits, no facilities and lack of well paid assistants.
