Keith Marshall, nation’s No. 1 RB, will make official visit to UGA for South Carolina game

Will the presence of Isaiah Crowell help or hurt UGA's chances at landing a top RB prospect?

  • BREAKING: Top Georgia LB commits to Auburn (go here)

UGA has a shot at the nation’s No. 1-ranked running back.

Keith Marshall of Raleigh, N.C., said UGA will be one of his three official visits, along with Notre Dame and Florida, he announced via Twitter.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder will make his recruiting trip for UGA’s  game against South Carolina on Sept. 10.

What about Isaiah Crowell at UGA? Wouldn’t that scare off any top RB prospect from even considering UGA? Surprisingly, the answer is “no” from Marshall, as Crowell’s presence is actually a positive. Marshall explained his perspective recently to UGASports/Rivals.com’s Radi Nabulsi:

“I do not want to be the only guy. I would love to play with another back because I do not want to take a beating. Especially in the SEC, if you want to have a long pro career, you want to split the carries with someone else. I saw Isaiah Crowell from last year and he is very good. I would like to play with a guy like that.”

Marshall will take all five official visits and wait until after his senior season to announce his college decision. He is ranked the No. 1 RB by Scout.com and the No. 1 all-purpose RB by Rivals.

  • Tray Matthews, one of Georgia’s top college football prospects for 2013 (that’s next year, not this year), committed to UGA over Alabama. No one is really quite sure what to make out of UGA’s 2012 class. But 2013, despite being far, far away, is shaping up rather well for the Bulldogs (click here for story link)
  • Basketball: North Clayton small forward Marcus Hunt may be Georgia’s top available prospect left on the board for the perimeter. The 6-foot-5 Hunt has narrowed down to eight  schools: Georgia Tech and UGA, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. “I really don’t know yet if I’m going to sign early [in November] or wait [until spring]. I might just keep the list at eight or trim it again. Right now, I don’t know,” Hunt told the Clayton News Daily’s Derrick Mahone.
  • Lincoln County OL Charles Folger (6-5, 220) was offered by Tusculum, and has serious interest from Carson-Newman.

I bet Drew is smarter than you.

He wrecked a scooter and that makes him stupid?

That’s some mighty fine logic there Calculus Boy. Use a slide rule to figure that one out?

What are the Techies trying to prove by coming on here and talking stupid? I think I remember a platoon from the not so distant past in Alabama working out really well for Mr. Richardson and Mr. Ingram. That’s what the kid was referring to. The question that Tech fans should be asking is why the top running backs in America are not beating down the door at Tech since you have a running offense.

We gotta get those in-state top prospects to stay & play at UGA. I understand K.Marshall’s desire to play for a top SEC team known for running backs. Please come to UGA Mr. Marshall !!! Go Dawgs !

The analogy of Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams would be better
served by an analogy of Worley and Henderson or Terrell Davis and Garrison Hearst or
Frank Sinkwich and Charlie Trippi, or Lars Tate and Rodney Hampton,
and on and on.

sounds like McCluskey, Henderson, Tate and Worley in late 80’s. All that team missed was a top qb. Hard to put that type of talent together these days. Good luck though!

Probably should pick a game you have a chance of winning to host such a high profile recruit. After the show Lattimore will put on, he might want to play with the real thing, and not some idiot thug who stumbles to read or write anything remotely intelligent. Oh well, at least he will be able to watch one good back. Maybe he can learn something.

Not a Dawg – Florida might ought to do the same thing, if Marshall is
going to the Florida State vs. Florida game.
Me thinks UGA has a better chance of beating the Cocks
than the Gators have against the Noles.
We’ll see how good Lattimore is against this years’ group
of linebackers and Nose Guard. Better have some
misdirection cooked up, cause he ain’t gonna run it up
the middle. Could be held to less than his 70 yards.

UGA kills me. Bobo says he’s pleased with the offensive line. I would guess so. It’s only the four most physical and athletically gifted offensive line starters in the history of your mediocre program ! The frustrating thing is UGA could have had FIVE backing them up with equal or greater talent. And all in-state kids! JUNIOR OFFENSIVE TACKLE JASON PEACOCK, MILLIDGEVILLE BALDWIN (ARKANASAS!), JUNIOR OFFENSIVE GUARD CHANCE WARMACK, ATLANTA WESTLAKE, (ALABAMA!), JUNIOR OFFENSIVE CENTER A.J.HAWKINS, ATLANTA MLK (OLE MISS.!), OFFENSIVE GUARD ROKEVIOUS WATKINS, ATLANTA CREEKSIDE (SOUTH CAROLINA!), and SOPHOMORE OFFENSIVE TACKLE JUWUAN JAMES, ATLANTA N.GWINNETT (TENNESSEE!). And here ya’ll are trying to make true freshman or redshirts with injuries your 6th or 7th off the bench. Richt/Bobo had every opportunity to establish a 5-man 2nd unit ready to compete,, AND these guys would have been ready in 2012 as well..These are the very athletes they needed to get them to the next level, and they simply neglected to take advantage! I think Bobo should line up at QB with Richt in a single back set, and let them run behind your 2nd team offensive line. After being subjected to that, you’d see a sudden change of heart and a serious effort to turn BRANDON GREENE (ALABAMA!), JOE HARRIS (SOUTH CAROLINA!), and VIDAL ALEXANDER (ANYWHERE BUT UGA!).

RRTDawgs – Unfortunately for you, the pundits and people that type on message boards do not play in games, and contrary to popular belief have no effect on the outcome. Eventually, the dawgs will have to line up and play against some real teams with real coaches. Once this happens, they will be exposed to be the frauds that they are, just like every other season. A weak, underachieving team that continually deisappoints its fanbase.

@DawginLex:

Your not getting it, if team has depth and coach choices to rotate player that one thing and fine.

My only difference is in this case the player is saying he doesn’t want to play because he’s scared to get hurt.

If you look back at last year class for Georgia, most of those player committed to UGA because they wanted to play, felt the had more of a shot at playing “more”. My hats off to those player. Yet this player says he would like to play less, just seems a little off to me.

Marshall knows the reality of playing every down in the SEC.

Sounds like a smart kid to me. Also humble enough to not spout off about “being the man” and “I want to be the featured back”.

We have had enough of that lately.

Nothing he said indicates to me he doesn’t want to play. He has aspirations of being a pro football player so doesn’t that indicate that he wants to play????

He understands the reality of violent collisions and the reality of a limited shelf life for a running back in the NFL.

I’ve followed UGA for about 50 years. Over those years, up until CMR’s era, UGA always had a dee, talented crew of O linemen. Almost ever year, UGA had one or two AA or ALL SEC linemen but CMR believes in FINESS ball and in the SEC that will yield 5-7 or 7-5 or break through year of 8-4.

LSU and Alabama and now Arkansas and Florida, SC and even KY and MSU know this. Duh ……look at their records.

Cure this HUGE deficit, then UGA will be on the mend.

Glad to see we are in the hunt for a top rated running back.

We actually have two five star players at RB now for UGA in Crowell and Samuel. Obviously, Samuel hasn’t lived up to that yet, but lets see what he does this year.

QB is about the only position where a recruit needs to worry about 1 other player already being there. If Marshall were to come to UGA, he might just redshirt though it is unlikely… he might be the featured back or he might be 2nd banana for a year or two, but there is certainly enough room for 2 very good running backs on a team.
