Cameron Fordham, who played at Northview High School, said he both requested and received a release from the LSU football team. Fordham, who is a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, declined to take questions but released a statement:
“I want to begin by thanking Coach Miles and his staff for affording me the opportunity to be a part of the LSU football program.“
“I’ve grown tremendously because of the time and experience that I’ve had at LSU and for that, I’m grateful. I will sorely miss my teammates and all those that make it work behind the scenes for the program.”
“I also want to extend to the fans and the people of Louisiana my personal appreciation for all of the support they provided to me from day one.”
“This was a personal decision that I made that best fits my current and future career.”

Maybe it’s just me, but can someone tell me the Relevance of Mattenberger to this whole story? I mean there’s his picture without a trace of the story, but that’s the writers at AJC for you

Agreed Mett has zip to do with this story, but the AJC does like the zingers. Also how is it the AJC does not have a article about Texas Gov. and possible Presidential candidate Rick Perry commenting on the speculation of A&M joining the SEC? IMO that is some serious news regarding the best conference in College Football. I imagine the AJC though would rather spew garbage about how CMR is on the Hotseat, how many victories does UGA need to keep Richt safe and the like. A blog about teams joining the conference might actually be fairly entertaining.

The statement from the young man is all about class! Wish the kid well with his new team (whomever).
Gov Perry was only stating what he had read in the paper about A&M and the SEC. The Gov was a leader on the cheer team (give me a break) for A&M.

It was a numbers game for Cameron. It was apparent he wasn’t going to get much playing time. Those things happen unfortunately.
I wish him the best of luck and appreciate his contributions while at LSU.

Far be it for me to defend the wacko Governor Perry, but I have to point out that Texas A&M was an essentially-military school back then (Army designation), 1 of only 6 in the country at the time.

Athens ain’t beautiful, look around. It is a junky little Georgia town with a college. Seriously bars and thugs and what most folks call beauty.

Cameron didn’t get a scolly from LSU out of high school. He was offered a scolly and then a gray shirt because of oversigning by Miles. He didn’t get one until one became available at the first of this year.
Somehow, I don’t think that he was treated too fairly by Les and the boys. But, that’s what oversigning does.

I can only assume you didn’t read the article nor the 1st sentence of the statement Fordham put out. He was very happy in Baton Rouge and had no problems grey-shirting. Miles isn’t the only coach to oversign and most people have no problem with the practice.
