One of Georgia’s top college basketball prospects visited Georgia Tech on Saturday, was offered a scholarship by Yellow Jackets coach Brian Gregory and liked it so much that he committed by the end of the day to the ACC school.

It was quite a day for Chris Bolden, the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder who is being recruited by Tech as a “combo guard” — to play both point guard and shooting guard. Bolden originally committed to Miami last year before his junior season of high school, but re-opened his recruiting after coach Frank Haith left Miami for the Missouri job last April.

Bolden picked Georgia Tech over offers from South Carolina, Virginia Tech, USC, Boston College, Miami, Ole Miss, and Harvard, among 20 schools.

“It doesn’t get any better than Georgia Tech,” Bolden told the AJC. “It’s a great college, it’s close to home so my friends and family can see me play, and they play in the best conference in college basketball [the ACC] … It had everything I was looking for.”

Bolden said  he wants another one of the state’s top basketball stars to go with him to Tech — North Clayton small forward Marcus Hunt. “Marcus and I play on the same AAU team, and we really work well together as teammates. When I was committed to Miami, we talked about playing together there … We’d be great at Georgia Tech together.”

What is Georgia Tech's biggest recruiting need in basketball?

What was Bolden’s impressions of Tech after his Saturday visit? “It went really well. Coach Gregory told me all the things he looks for in a player … character, responsibility, dependability, good guys — guys he thinks he can trust in and believe in. He said he trusts and believes in me, and wanted to offer a scholarship.”

Last season as a junior, Bolden averaged 15 points while leading Norcross High School to the state championship in Georgia’s largest classification. Bolden scored the game-winning points, sinking four consecutive foul shots, in the 59-55 win over Milton in the Class AAAAA championship. Bolden said he has transferred to North Gwinnett High School for his senior year. “I know you hear about this or that basketball player switching high schools because of basketball. Mine is opposite. It had nothing to do with basketball. It was because of family and financial hardship reasons.”

  • Robert Carter, who is considered one of the nation’s top 25 college basketball prospects, has transferred from Thomasville High School to Shiloh for his senior season, according to CourtCred.com. Carter is a 6-foot-8 power forward with around 40 offers.
  • Greyson Lambert, who is considered Georgia’s No. 1 QB prospect, committed to Virginia on Saturday. Lambert plays at Wayne County High School.

UGA needs a combo guard as well as every other position. They have no talent what so ever on their roster.

If I read the above link right, Greyson Lambert signed with Virginia? Wow. And Jason is right, UGA needs all the talent they can get from spots 1-12. They need similar guys of good talent who can come in and push each other hard each and everyday in practice and in games.

Ok I get it!…CBG is going to sign all the 2nd and 3rd tier player in the state..I have seen both Bolden and Hunt, both play for WORLDWIDE, a team we ran off the court, and i was not impressed at all..Both have potential I guess, but neither would start for our 17u team!

So UGA gets Charles Mann and Hewitt Fan proclaims “I told everyone that Gt will never ever get another top in state player..”. Now it looks like GT will get a player rated higher then Mann and Hewitt Fan tries his hardest to downplay it. It’s pretty humorous to see.

LOL, Mann is rated the 21st PG in the country, Bolden is not ranked at all, if you read my post i said he is a 2nd or 3rd tier guard in Ga but he has potential.i seen him play, The GREAT ATLANTA CELTICS gave WORLDWIDE(his aau team) a good old fashion butt whooping, but he has height and maybe he can develop, kind of slow though..He would not start for our 17u or our 16u team…GT will not get any of the top 15 players in Ga.

HewittFan, I’d rather have top 100 players with fundamentals for four years vs top 15 players for six months any day. CBG will give us a program we can be proud of, I feel confident in that. And no, I’m not kin to him.

You must be using scout Hewitt Fan. Im using Rivals which has Bolden at 126 in their top 150 players in the country. Mann is 140. They are both listed as shooting guards on Rivals, with Bolden being a few spots higher then Mann. How you can consider Mann a top player and not Bolden is pretty stupid.

Hewitt fan, If Brian Gregory can teach the players how to do an inbounds pass, it will be an improvement. If he can get the players to focus on the classroom and on the court, it will be an improvement. And let’s look at your inaccuracies. 1. “GT fans let mark Bradley make them think that they were going to get a better coach than Hewitt!” You make it sound like Bradley has mind control over every Tech fan. In fact, I don’t care for his writing, but my blind grandmother could tell Tech basketball was awful, she didn’t have to read Mark Bradley’s column to know that. As I listed before, if he can accomplish those things alone, it will be an improvement. 2. “GT will not get any of the top 15 players in Ga.” I could have sworn you last mentioned Tech wasn’t going to get anyone in the top 50, and that has now been retracted. You were incorrect about the huge news that was going to be revealed after Oliver left, and you will be incorrect about this statement. 3. “I am knocking the kid, I have seen Mann and i have seen Bolden play several times and Mann is 20x better.” If I remember correctly, you have a nephew on the “great atlanta celtics”. Are you a coach? A talent evaluator? Team manager? Not to be negative here, but your opinion is biased and lacks sufficient credentials. A neutral view would be more accurate than yours… Gregory seems to be a guy who is well prepared and covers his bases. If he thinks this kid can play, I will trust him. Until he becomes a disgrace to the program and a running joke among alumni, I will support Gregory. He can’t be as awful as the last man in his position.

Don’t forget free throws Outside Observor. I was a season ticket holder for years before I gave up on Blewitt. I’ve never seen a more pathetic free throw shooting team than Tech became under Phew.

I saw a former “Great Atlanta Celtic” miss the entire apparatus more than once. Total airballs from the free throw line. The last three minutes of the 09 -10 NC State game was the last straw for me with Blewitt. I was embarrassed to be a Tech fan at that game.

I’ve seen all the “Great Atlanta Celtics” I need to see. Give me Price and Harpring and some kids that can get it done in the class room. Things can only get better without Phew.

Hewitt’s time is done no matter what you say! Go cheer for George Mason, I honestly wish Hewitt luck. He was done at Tech and he many chances to right the ship. Ozzy, I will never be able to forget the free throw shooting. That NC State game was an embarrassment. I almost left with 4 minutes to go when we were up sixteen thinking we had the game in hand. I should have left to save myself some major headaches. Hewitt Fan, face it. You are supporting a coach who crippled an entire program because he wasn’t willing to step down from the job when he couldn’t live up to his paycheck, and forced the program to pay him to leave. If he was a good coach, he wouldn’t produce so many raw prospects. I don’t think Udofia sucks (I’m guessing you do since he didn’t play for Celtics). I think he played under an awful coach who doesn’t know how to coach up a point guard. I think a guy like Gregory can improve his game and give him some confidence. Why did Paul Hewitt only have 1 winning season in the ACC? Could it be the lack of fundamentals in his players (free throws, turnovers, ball movement)? Or would that fall back on the AAU programs for not teaching the players fundamentals in the first place? I will let you decide on that one…

It was embarrassing to watch/ be part of. He couldn’t capture the magic and none of his teams ever played like the 2004 team.
