Carver-Columbus DT raves about former teammate Isaiah Crowell

Isaiah Crowell has “left the building” at Carver-Columbus High School, awaiting the opportunity to save the world at UGA.

Crowell left behind plenty of talented teammates at Carver-Columbus, which is known for producing college football prospects on an annual basis. Carver had 20 seniors sign last Febraury and expects another strong batch this year.

One of Carver’s top 2012 prospects is Derious Bennett, a 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive tackle who said he has around a dozen offers, including Arkansas, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Southern Miss, Duke, Houston and Marshall.

Bennett has nothing but praise for his former heralded teammate, Crowell.

“Isaiah is an amazing football player,” Bennett said. “He has tremendous character and is real humble. I think Georgia fans are going to be excited about what he does for them this season.”

Asked if there was anything that Georgia fans would be surprised to learn about Crowell as a person or football player, Bennett replied, “No, not really. Isaiah doesn’t leave much to figure out. He speaks his mind about things. He was a  great leader for us, with both his actions and his words.”

Back to Bennett: He visited Southern Miss and Auburn this summer, along with attending camps at Wake Forest and Duke. He is favoring Southern Miss, but will likely wait until the middle or after his senior season to make his college decision. He is happy with his list of offers, but wouldn’t mind being evaluated by UGA, Clemson and Florida.

Bennett has a 3.0 and plans to study Marine Biology.

I’m sick and tired of hearing Mutt fans bragging that Crowell will BE … THE NEXT Marcus Lattimore. Get real. Crowell couldn’t even finish the deal at that one stoplight Class A high school. Crowell is THE NEXT Caleb King … PS Dawggies, it was George Rogers and N-O-T Herschel Walker who won the Heisman in 1980. GO COCKS!!!!

Time to stop the pettiness and let the kids enjoy their time to shine. Personally, I wish all these guys well; they’ve done a terrific job earning their way to collegiate football scholarship and education due to their hard work in high school.

Here’s hoping they stay healthy and end get something out of college other than time between the chalk lines.

That’s right ATL Gamecock … Rogers did win the HT in 1980 … But UGA won the game thanks to Walker’s amazing 76 yard TD run!

ATL Gamecock: Chill out, brother. You’re the preseason SEC East pick by the media. Enjoy it and quit whining about what another fanbase is saying (actually, it must be your buddies ’cause Georgia fans I know are cautiously optimistic with Crowell).

SEC East will be decided in Athens vs. the Gamecocks. Winner takes division.

Your right ATL cock, the only thing a UGA player won in 1980 was a National Championship! Herschel then went on the win the Heisman in 1982, became he greatest RB in college history, and had a incredible pro career. What esle did George, or South Carolina ever do???

@BANKS what else did South Carolina do???? 1 We whooped the Dawgs last year on way to Atlanta for the SEC championship game. 2 We are pretty much getting any recruit we want out of Georgia this year. 3 Garcia is back which means another trip to the Dome! 4 Spurrier is a member of Augusta National Golf Course while your coach is a member of ESPN’s HOT SEAT club. Life is good as a Gamecock. GO COCKS! COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOO!!!!

Anybody that tries to make the argument that Rogers was better than Herschel is smoking crack. Just like, at this point, trying to make the comparison between Crowell and Lattimore. Crowell aint there and may not get there. Gotta get on the field and see. Just ready for Sept. 3

Give me a break… all these chicken fans are delusional. Last season was the best season you’ve had in decades, and how many wins did you end up with? NINE?!? You have been the redheaded step child of the SEC East for YEARS, and although you may have a run for a couple of years while the real programs (Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee) have been down. This year is S. Carolina’s best year to win, and my guess is this… they will choke in the big games. Just like last year… Only South Carolina fan’s would beat their chests after a 9-5 season.

P.S. I thnk you’re QB is still at the bar…

Atl Cock…………Let me tell you what your fans are tired of. 100 years of football and not one damn conference trophy to show for it. The best of nothing. Now, you got a chance this year, but as usual, when late fall comes, beach chairs aren’t the only thing in Carolina to start folding. Wait till you win something before you start crowing…..no pun intended. Go Dawgs.

Atl gamecock who is sayin that I.C. Will be the next marcus lattimore? Nothing against lattimore he is a great back but when s.c. needed him down the stretch he was nowhere to be found. And lets not talk about the fsu game. Go look at the stat sheet and look at his production in the games that they lost. If I want him to mimick a true fr rbs production I want it to be michael dyer. Dyer shared carries with 2 other players (cam, mccaleb) had about 70 less carries that lattimore yet lattimore only had about 150 more yds. Oh yea while cam didnt play his best game vs oregon dyer stepped up and was named, mvp of the game. Again not taking anything away from lattimore but dyer has a ring and an mvp trophy so thats the kind of year I wouldnt mind ic having

One more thing for you “cock” fans. Lattimore is a very good tailback but yall were giving him between 25-30 carries a game. I think he had 32 against UGA. Keep doin that and hell be too beat up to even get drafted and play on Sundays. And yall can brag about Harris but we took your states number one prospect in Terry so that stupid conversation could go on all day.

I hope IC can help us.

Comparisons to Lattimore at this point should not be made because Crowell hasn’t played college ball yet.

Spurrier is so desperate to win, he will do anything to re-instate a drunk QB who showed up to a character counseling session with alcohol on his breath.

Crowell needs to take lessons from Lattimore and get in the weight room and do the running that Joe T requires. My guess is he will.

Calhoun Pride

I’m a Dawg fan and I was not impressed with Crowell as a “5 star runningback” or as a leader. The SEC is going to be maybe a little tougher than Georgia High school Class AA football.

The Game Cocks have got to get sober before they can even get on a football field. Their incoming freshmen are drunks (Edward Muldrow), their quarterback is a drunk (Garcia), and probably more than one coach needs a portable latrine.

Did anyone on here actually comment on the blog?

I hope Crowell and all these young men do great things in college and especially in life. Football is not the end and make sure remember that, study and build relationships. You have escaped from Carver and the thugs you grew up with. Take a new path and make a life for yourself. Cut off these people who can drag you into the gutter from your past. Caleb King? That is cold, Caleb King doesn’t even respect Caleb King.

Spurrier IS a member at Augusta National. He is just viewed as a “Cock.”

I like the Cock fan beating his chest about how they “went” to the SEC Championship. How did that turn out? Oh and your bowl game? Congrats on the 9 win season and BARELY getting into the SEC Championship game. Two sorry as heck UGA and UF teams were in the running all the way to the end. Just remember Cock fans, “wait til next year.”

I do believe I saw Garcia in Five Points last night around 3 am. Good luck with that.

I agree DawginLex… comparing IC to anyone at this point is useless conversation. He isn’t Lattimore. He isn’t Hershel. He isn’t anything but a highly recruited freshman out of high school right now. He may prove to be as good or better. He may also be the next King or Sanks. Who knows. Just let the kid show what he has and then have a reasonable debate about just what kind of player he is…

Marcus Lattimore has played against elite competition since the 9th grade.
Crowell has played against weak competition his entire high school career.

High School football in Georgia is a lot stronger than HS football in South Carolina. Triple A schools in Georgia are equivalent to Four-A schools in South Carolina.

Also, Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, Knowshon Moreno, Mark Ingram, just to name a few all played at smaller high schools that play WEAKER competition. With that said your statement has no relaevence.
