One of Georgia’s fastest wide receivers committed to Maryland on Wednesday night.

Amba Etta-Tawo, a 6-foot-3, 178-pounder from McEachern High School, said he picked the Terrapins over Virginia out of around 10 football scholarship offers.

“Maryland’s offense is a great fit for me,” Etta-Towa told the AJC. “The type of scheme they run is perfect for the type of receiver that I am.”

What type of wide receiver is Etta-Towa? A fast one. He was a member of McEachern’s 400-meter relay team that finished runner-up for the Class AAAAA state championship and he has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.4 seconds.

“All the coaches were fired up about the commitment,” Etta-Tawo said.

Etta-Towa is the fourth Georgia player to commit to Maryland, following Marist OL Nick Brigham, Luella DB Alvin Hill and Chapel Hill WR AJ Liddell.

  • Lithonia High School’s Joe Harris will announce his college decision between South Carolina, Clemson, Mississippi State and Alabama on July 27. He also claims offers from UGA and Georgia Tech.

It’s time to shut this institute of crime down. Second time in less than 10 years they are forced to vacate wins for cheating. And we all know about the national news worthy crimes their crazy students have committed. Time to just end the misery and shut the doors for good.

I was wondering how a guy was 6′3 and ran a 4.4 and wasn’t being pursued by all the major colleges in the south. Then i went on another website and saw that his clocked time was 4.6.

regardless, great job by Maryland. they have an exciting offense. They were basically an option team first of last year, and were airing it out all over the place by the end of the season. look for them to make a run in the ACC

Thanks for heads-up “Yech…” Guess I’ll go over and give all the GT folks the bad news.

You got any other news for me to break to them?

I am starting to think recruiting Kitchen to get to Harris did not work.

mark my words techsters: the triple-option offense is killing your recruiting. even if CPJ is very successful, elite rb’s, wr’s, qb’s, and o-linemen will not sign. your best hope is on defense, but for some reason, the offensive system will play into that as well. in today’s climate, guys can make the league or get a good education just about anywhere. It is a long-term thing, so i am not hating.

Surprised UT didn’t get another commitment in the last 20 seconds.

The Dools and Tennessee landed two more bigtime players today who
have impressive offers from all over the U.S.

dooley at ut is just pulling the old “i’m a georgia guy too, so you won’t be a traitor” mackdaddy talk. and it’s working. He should be given some consideration if CMR is given the boot a year or two from now.

that would not apply here as Dooley landed a DE from Ohio over tOSU
and a LB from Louisiana who had a slew of offers.
Doubt CDD would leave – very happy up there with his young team.

Rogers D, at this moment in time it shouldn’t be too hard to pull a recruit out of Ohio. Not saying he isn’t a good recruit, just that it should be easy pickings with OSU about to get nailed by the NCAA.

IF Derek Dooley is ever offered the UGA job, you bet your life he will leave. It’s not that Tennessee isn’t a bad job, but the pull would be too great. If UGA athletics is #2 in revenue now, what do you think it will be if another Dooley walks in that door? Talk about re-energizing a program

Derek has ALWAYS done his own thing and would not want to live right
in his dads shadow. Even Barbara loves Tennessee now!

If UGA loses out on Joe Harris (not listing UGA in his top 4), Vadal Alexander (not listing UGA in his top 5), Avery Young (more than likely goin to FL), Cody Waldrop (committed to SC), Jessemen Dunker (committed to FL), Brandon Greene (committed to AL) and DJ Humphries (not listing UGA in his top 5; more than likely a FL commit, does it not make you wonder how good a recruiter for OL Rodney Garner and Will Friend are? Also, Garner was second fiddle to SC for Brandon Shell and second fiddle to TN for Antonio Richardson; UGA is losing the battle for a great OL (Theus was a given!!!); “Win, Baby, Win”!! “You Snooze, You Lose”!!

Most of the coaches at Georgia got complacent and lazy for a few years. I think 2010 and especially for the 2011 class things are improving but it takes years to develop a relationship with some recruits and with some of them we did not see their potential until it was too late where some of the other schools did a better job recognizing their potential early on.
It is definitely Garners job to be on top of who to approach as early as the 9th grade. It is obvious that he needs help with recruiting and I think McGarity has put everyone on notice that he expects to compete at a top 10 level. It feels like things are changing at Georgia since McGarity arrived we just have to be patient . He may tweak things a little more after this year but with the kids that are already interested in 2012 and 2013 shows the improvement and that McGarity realized the recruiting was not where it needed to be. I see a big change in urgency already at Georgia now we will see if it shows up in WINS.

With all the talent and quality student athletes with good choir boy ethics and morals plus the genius coach and great co-ordinators we have, anything less than a national championship would be 100% failure for UGA this year. But please gice CMR a lifetime contract; when it is all said and done, Richt will go down in history as the greatest to have ever coached the game!

Well Maryland technically is a southern state and southern school below the Mason Dixon Line with proximity to all that the deep south schools have. Maryland’s climate is very similiar to that of North Carolina and Virginia where the winters can get cold and a bit snowy but its not like the northeast where lake effect snowstorms are the norm in say New York, Vermont and Massachussets.
