Football is a family activity for UGA’s first commit for its 2012 recruiting class, CJ Curry.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver is the son of veteran high school coach Felix Curry, who recently accepted a job as an assistant at Flowery Branch High School and moved his family there. The elder Curry played football as a free safety at Mars Hill College (N.C.), where his wife Trina also played college volleyball.
CJ’s younger brother is one of the state’s top prospects for 2013. Darius Curry (6-1, 180) is a rising junior cornerback at Flowery Branch and already has early football offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma State and N.C. State.
With Darius at DB and CJ at WR, it makes for some interesting games of backyard football.
“They go at it like dogs,” the father told the AJC. “Darius is a lockdown corner and loves to press in man [coverage]. CJ loves being pressed. That’s what probably contributes to both being better — CJ going against a good corner all the time, and Darius going against a good wide receiver.”
And there’s one more Curry projected to attract attention from college scouts down the road. Justin Curry is a rising freshman who plays running back and safety. He’s 5-7 and 165 pounds. “He’s not as tall as us [either of his two older brothers] going into the ninth grade, but he’s stronger and pretty fast,” CJ said.
OTHER RECRUITING NOTES

On Thursday, there was some spirited debate on the message board (click here to read it) about the optimal height of a college prospect at cornerback. Carrollton High School’s Jonathan Jones aka “Georgia’s fastest football recruit” is 5-10 1/2, according to his coach. The state of Georgia has a strong national reputation for producing talented DB prospects, and this year’s crop is another stellar one. Here are the sizes of some of Georgia’s other elite 2012 defensive backs (both cornerbacks and safeties because some may play either), courtesy of Kipp Adams of UGASports/Rivals.com (click here for his complete list from May):
* – denotes may play safety in college
Finally, some sad news out of the recruiting world on Thursday: The mother of Henry County High School defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson passed away. Dalvin is one of the state’s top prospects for this season.

While UGA’s “NFL guy” pulls out his tape measure, if you’re a pure baller come to Auburn!!!! Don’t forget the same clowns in Athens recruited the best QB in college football (won that shiny Heisman) and the #1 draft pick in the NFL draft ($$$$$$) at …..,, PAUSE FOR EFFECT ..
They recruited a Legendary QB at … TIGHT END! wth??? Great talent scouts, those Athens boys. HAHAHA

Yep, if you are a paid mercenary with a sketchy past and want to play one season, Auburn is probably the place for you. Scam wasn’t a “legendary” qb until his one and done at Auburn. I’m guessing you are a young Georgia resident that hates Georgia because you couldn’t get in.

Legendary for being a scandal. Legendary after 1 year on the field? Only to Auburn fans becasue they paid him so much. UGA had SEVERAL QBs Auburn didn’t have a pot to piss in. WHY RECRUIT ANOTHER QB? UGA had so many had to put them in other positions, redshirts, let them transfer, whatever. DID not NEED HIM! Auburn needed him so BAD he was paid. Their championship will ALWAYS be tainted because they had a PAID PROFESSIONAL for a QB. UGA does it honest. Auburn is a joke. They have been paying players for the last 20 years steadily. The only way they can compete with BAMA! Thank GOD he did not come to UGA for one season with all his baggage. Auburn BOUGHT a championship. Bout damn time they BOUGHT themself one! What you gonna do this year? LOL, Where is Cam? Who did you buy this go around? LAST YEAR IS OVER. Better relive last year during this season. Its going to SUCK for Auburn fans and you…

All of you Curry’s look and seem like good young men. The kind that UGA wants, not the thugs at Auburn or Tennessee or South Carolina. Stay home at UGA so your parents can see you ALL play EVERY SATURDAY! Dad wants to be there to see his boys in the SEC and yeah you can go somewhere else, but that would be great for him, convenient. Never have to decide on which sons game to go to or if there is enough time or money. Away games already cost enough to travel and stay overnight and then visits home etc. Give dad a deserved break. Come to UGA and win the National Championship in 2012 and 2013. Welcome to UGA and the DawgNation. It’s our time but we need players like you. The best of the best….We need all 3 of you. Crowell will be gone and Justin you can come in and take his place. C.J. and Darius, we need both of you NOW!

I always thought 5-10 5-11 was the perfect height for a college cornerback. That was before some college coach told me how wrong I was! I guess all those great players I have been watching for years just were not any good. Who knew?

WTF?

Quite a family of athletes the dad has there. Hope his son turns out to be a great , and I also hope that UGA offers the younger brother as he seems like he is a game. I just hope the Dad doesn’t control them as much as the recently departed OL’s father was.

Oh, dear. I agree with Tech Fan. I don’t understand not looking at JJ when GS has been offered but indicates going elsewhere.
Name, you must be a real youngster. I was in school when UGA won the NC. I went to the FL game that year and had a hangover for about a week after “Lindsey Scott!”
Guess you never heard of him, either. If you’re a FL fan, let me remind you there’s a reason UGA still leads the all time series. We used to own you, and will again one day. Perhaps sooner than later. AU doesn’t even merit smack talk, and we’ll see what happens at Alabama. Saban’s about due to jump ship again now he’s got his statue for fans to worship.

Must be something in the water in Alabama…….Auburn had a great year last year….Key word is year. now they think they are God’s gift to college football. Even little ole poorly coached Georgia beat them 4 years in a row before that. Georgia is in a place as of now where BAMA was for 3-4 years before Saban showed up. Very Average. Things go in cycles. Auburn will see this year, and we are another bad season away in Athens for some historical changes ourselves. The haters better hope Richt wins this year. Dawgs might slip up and hire someone to keep all this rich talent at home and make like miserable for you.

It’s funny to ready UGA fans lament “all of our instate players”. How many scholarships do you thing they can offer? There are hundreds of very talented players in Georgia and they all can’t go to UGA. It’s also funny to see SEC schools accuse each other of being dirty. Is there no honor among thieves ? LOL

UGA is 6-4 last 10 games, 6-6 last 12 games against AU, far from dominating but i guess by UGA standards these days, that is domination. Guess you’re comparing uga’s success against FLA and the success against AU .Let’s see, FLA has won what 18 out of 21 or something like that..So yes, i understand why you said UGA has dominated AU last 10 yrs.

Gamecock fan……Hats off, you have a good team……….question…What kind of grief would Richt get for starting an experienced senior QB would had been suspended 6 times in his career? Richt is held to a pretty high standard by this newspaper ( by running story after story about any problems) I think Spurrier is a great coach, but he’s also a win at any cost coach also.
