It’s Crowell time! UGA 5-star recruit Isaiah Crowell reports to college

Isaiah Crowell, UGA’s new big man on campus, arrived on campus on Tuesday, according to his high school coach.

The 5-star tailback from Carver-Columbus High School was the crown jewel of UGA’s heralded “Dream Team” recruiting class. He is projected to compete immediately for the starting position in Georgia’s offensive backfield.

Few Georgia recruits have arrived with greater fanfare or expectations. Crowell was hounded by autograph seekers, including fellow recruits, at Georgia’s spring game last April.

What advice did Carver coach Dell McGee give the star-studded prospect before he departed Columbus? The coach said he kept it simple: “I told Isaiah to just enjoy college. It’s a great experience.”

Crowell reported to college with his high school teammate who will also play football for Georgia, defensive back Quintavious “Cootie” Harrow. Crowell and Harrow have both met NCAA college entrance requirements and are listed in UGA’s student directory. They will both begin summer classes this month.

I hope that this recruiting class lives up to the billing, in the classroom. in the community, and on the field.

Gamecocks sec…….who is clowney? And why will he enjoy hitting Isaiah? Is there bad blood from High School playing days? i assume clowney plays for USC and he must play defense? You don’t give us much to go on here pal.

Paddy, he is a cock fan, they never have much to go on in the first place. Ever been to Columbia, SC and spoke with the locals? Not pretty my friend.

@ Kramer, LOL I had a couple of friends ( one gator and one seminole ) go to columbia to watch the UF vs USC game. They pretty much said the same thing. As for Tom E. Gunn how would you know if he has the head to play in the SEC? I’m pretty sure they actually interview these kids and before they even offer them a scholarship. You sir are a genius!

Clowney better be more concerned about passing classes than hitting anyone. There’s a big reason he committed to USCe. It’s because it’s one of the schools that would accept him and not have to go to prep school. It’s those high academic standards the Cocks have. Now that’s funny right there.

Why is this news worthy? Aren’t all freshmen that signed with teams expected to be on campus this summer? How about some actual recruiting news?

@Beast From East, thanks for your post. Crowell is newsworthy because he is one of the nation’s top-rated recruits from 2011 and signed with a local college. If you want other recruiting news, there are a few links at the bottom of his page and more in the top right corner. Thanks.

I hope Crowell exhibits better sportsmanship than he did when his team visited Calhoun last season. I dont think he expected to get hit as hard and often as he did. Good Luck

Too bad the Carver OL did not report to UGA with Crowell. UGA will be improved this year only because this is year 2 in the 3/4 system – and they now have real Nose Tackles.

Crowell is in for a shock – NO LINE and will be frustrated.

UGA will be battling Tennessee for the #3 or #4 spots in the SEC EAST and #7,8,9 spots with AUBURN and the Vols.

Just not high on this program – but wish UGA best of luck this season.

Roll Tide With Pride,

Did you happen to watch Carver last year? He had 1 good offensive lineman. He made most of his plays on his on.

Our O-Line will be just fine.

Your post is why I have tempered my enthusiasm on IC. I know several Dawg fans who are level headed DGD fans who attended the game and they left the Calhoun game very unempressed but actually very turned off by the young man. The last time they gave a report that bad? Washaun Ealey last game in the Georgia Dome where he was taunting and on the sidelines acting like a complete fool. Lets hope this was simply a isolated incident, but the irony of the reports should just be tucked away for future reference perhaps.

LOL. Only would the Athens Journal Constitution get all pumped up for a guy who’s never played college football before.

I don’t get it. How is this news?

He’s not going to make it behind a once again patch work OLine. That’s why Richt has swung and missed on Ealy and King, also comparable RB’s to Crowell by recruiting stars.

I am going to laugh my butt off at you UGA fans this year. Hell even Lattimore couldn’t make it one whole season in the SEC carrying the load and USCe had an OLine.

Can’t wait to see bulldog nation up in arms…again. 30 years and counting. LOL.

Way to be classy Tech Fan.

Nobody with a brain is expecting Crowell to be another Herschel. In fact, the closest thing we have to Herschel in the SEC is Lattimore. He has add 20 pounds of muscle and is going to be one tough dude to tackle.

I expect Crowell, King and Malcome to share the carries along with Carlton Thomas and the fullbacks. It remains to be seen how much difference a new offensive line coach makes. Richt has always strived for 50/50 run/pass but with little depth on the OL, he might not be able to grind it out as much.

I disagree with the tide with pride dude, our 1st team OL is as good as anyone’s. It is the lack of depth that is the problem.

Rushing ranking in the SEC is a major overrated stat. We were 10th in 2002. More important stat is defensive PPG allowed. Get that down to BVG levels and the SEC East is winnable.

This kid is going to do good things at UGA. He is a stud. I think it was pretty much set in stone that he would be the day 1 starter as soon as he committed and Richt proved that with the missing RB formation. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. Good luck to the young man.

1962,

Good question. The others already suspended have layed low up to know. They participated in Spring drills but have stayed out of the news

The OL guy is the only one that is projected as a 1-2 round pick.

I’m not worried about running backs and losing Boom Herron – the stable is full.

Posey would leave a hole in the receiver corp.

If we’re rid of the infections, we’ll surprise some folks. Young team, young coach, a new day in Columbus.

Steven….while you may be right, dont you think there will be a big difference in playing against college guys as opposed to a bunch of high school kids, few of which were recruited to play D1 football. I am not saying he wont do well but if you think he will replicate at UGA what he did at Carver against an SEC D, you will be disappointed.

@ Tech Fan – that’s kind of how a “Recruiting Blog” works!!! Everyone whips themselves into a frenzy over 18-19 years old that may or not make a big splash in college. Crowell’s arrival is news because all the “haters in the know” said he would never make it out of Columbus because he was a bad seed who was constantly in trouble. They said there was “BIG” news about to come out of Columbus last week that would derail Crowell’s future. Oh well, haters love to hate.

Leave the kid alone. Until he has gotten into trouble, which I don’t think he will, quit with the bad seed, thuga trash talk. He is a young kid and nobody on here, UGA or Anti-UGA knows how well he will do. You recruit kids for potential, and considering his high school career, there is no reason to assume he will not perform at the next level just as well.
Tech. fan, you need to just keep quiet. Until you have a consistent winner over in Atlanta, just give it a break. Nobody is interested in your opinion, if they have even the slightest knowledge about football. You obviously fall into that category.

All juvenile rhetoric aside, (1) don’t you think Lattimore was welcomed with similar hype at SC last season and look at how that turned out (won the East,) (2) the OL at UGA is a legit concern, as is WR, (3) Tech Fan, it’s pretty bad when you have to spend your time on a blog about a rival school, sort of sounds like there isn’t ANYTHING to look forward to at GT. Sad….

There is a 9 minute youtube of Crowell’s High School highlights. Watch it and come back and tell me what you think. If anyone has a chance of being a stud, it’s him. I was not on the bandwagon until I watched the entire film. Holy smokes. The kid has game. Hate on if you will. See you on the field.

Buckeyes! Gamecocks! Give me a break! Buckeyes win until they step outside the “Big” 10. Gamecocks finally win 9 games in a single year, then choke when they see the bright lights of Atlanta. Gamecocks = flash-o in pan-o and the Buckies should stick to the wolverweinees of Mich and the mildcats of Northwestern.

Tech fan,

We could greatly improve our record if we scheduled Tech. for 12 games a year. Would not be much good for a BCS standing, since it is partially based on quality of opponent, but would look great in the record books.
