Wonder Twins! Eric Berry’s younger brothers will ‘definitely be a package deal’

Eric Berry’s twin brothers have been headliners in recruiting circles since one of them reportedly committed to the Tennessee Volunteers while in middle school.

Flash forward to two years later: Evan and Elliott Berry completed their freshman year of high school last week, and somehow have found a way — so far — to meet the great expectations that come with being the siblings of an All-America defensive back and NFL first-rounder.

The Berry twins say that they are at least two years away from making their college decisions. No, neither has committed to Tennessee but both like the Volunteers, which was where both their brother and father played college football.

There’s really only one thing they have decided on this early in the recruiting process — they will “definitely be a package deal” in college and both sign with the same team.

Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Virginia Tech, Nebraska and Wisconsin are a few of the schools that have let it be known that the Berry twins “both” will have football scholarships waiting for them, according to Creekside High School coach Johnny White. They have trips planned to Alabama, Auburn and UGA this summer so far.

“We’ve played on the same football teams our whole lives and want to do the same in college,” Evan said.

Many predict that the Berry twins are “locks” for Tennessee because of family ties but they claim it’s not true. “My brother is his own person; we’re going to make our own decisions,” Elliott said. “Our brother and our dad want us to pick the school that is the best fit for us. It may be Tennessee or it may be another school. We’ll just have to see.”

Auburn gained major ground with the Berry twins after the recent commitment of Creekside defensive back Josh Holsey, who picked Auburn over UGA, LSU and Virginia Tech. Holsey considers Eric to be a mentor and “like an older brother” and the Berry twins consider Holsey to be “like an older brother” because of the closer proximity in age.

  • Evan Berry is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, and being recruited at safety and defensive back. Last year as a freshman, Evan played QB and had 80 carries for 973 yards and 10 TDs, while completing 89 of 136 passes for 1,789 yards and 23 TDs with 7 interceptions. On defense, Evan had 30 tackles and 4 pass deflections.
  • Elliott Berry is 6-0 and 200 pounds, and being recruited by most at linebacker and some at tailback. Last year, Evan had 71 carries for 799 yards and 6 TDs, while registering 64 tackles and 3 sacks on defense.

2more Georgia athletes that almost certainly won’t play in Athens. We couldn’t land Eric after rolling out 3 consecutive All-Americans at his position. These guys will find their way to UT.

If you bet against them going to UT you will probably lose. I will be shocked it they end up anywhere except Tennessee.

We dont know if ya’ll will come to UT. It is YOUR decisions. But if you do, know that you are FAMILY!
The Berry family has long been a tradition at Knoxville and has brought the school and our fans great excitement for many years. We would welcome these young men to K-town if they so choose. I hope they do embrace the Vols and our mutual tradition. We will be ready.
That being said, we respect that all young men and women must make their OWN choices.
GO to UT or NOT the fact is your family are VOLS FOR LIFE! And we support you!
And GO CHIEFS!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Berry twins. I saw Eric Berry play for the 1st time his sophmore year against Sandy Creek. Sandy Creek won but Eric Berry was unreal he was so good. I did not know or had heard of Eric Berry before that game. He was so good I remember calling and telling my friends and family out of state that love football to remember his name since he was only a sophmore at the time. I’ve heard and read that Evan and Elliot will probably be better than Eric was. That is amazing. I definatly have to get out and see them play this coming season since I saw Eric play a hanful of times.

Everybody griping about were their going to commit you can’t blame them if they go to UT. I hate UT with a passion but can’t blame kids wanting to go play for a school were their dad and older brother both played. I also think their mom ran track for UT but not certian. Like I said I hate UT but will pull for both of them to shine even if they choose to go to UT or wherever. Smart money is down the rode they are vols.

The compare to Marcus was just based on the photo of these two outstanding young men. There will always be some hate for these kids because that is what some people do on here. They have a lot of family support so they will be fine and well grounded. So let the goobers hate, who cares.

I am sure these two young men will make their family and their high school proud over the next three years. And I sure hope that, when it comes time for them to make their college decision, they decide to “make their own way” (a la Peyton Manning going to Tennessee over Ole Miss) and choose the Auburn Tigers. We’d love to have’em down on The Plains. Wherever they choose, I feel they have a great future.

Story almost as similar to AJ Green and his commitment to UGA as a Sophomore. These Elite kids are going to get the “Pub” very early and with there last name plenty of attention is heading there way. Would be great to see them in Athens, but I would tend to think that UT land will be calling to them pretty strongly. Those two young men spent very impressionable years up in Knoxville watching Big Brother play some damn good football and hearing 100k cheer him on will resonate very strongly with them.

If CMR cant land this two mega stars this week then him and his entire staff need to be fired. They are both obviously the future of College football. Cast the championship rings now.

Fire Adams too and Uga… Throw in the entire GT coaching staff for good measure. I am really upset !!

The Holsey kid is special and Auburn has a really good one coming to The Plains. Good for them. I’m a hard core Vol, so I hope to see them in K-ville wearing Big Orange. Whatever they decide, they will impact a program if they are even close to Big Bro’s talent. He was one great football player and a young man with character. Sometimes the character takes a back seat. It seems that is not the case in the Berry house.

Auburn will be either in the middle of NCAA investigations or already on probation when these men decide which school to attend. Seems the infractions arm is now serious about ‘cleaning up’ consistently rogue programs and the OSU effort will not take long…Reports are that Auburn is the next target.

@NoGaGator, thanks for your comment. Yes, if they are special, we’ll write about underclassmen every now and then. The Berry brothers are most certainly special, good athletes and even better kids. They’ve been the focus of the national media since one reportedly committed to Tennessee before the eighth grade (later denied), and they will continue to be so.

dap01- Auburn has always had sufficient cash to outspend their competition and stay one step ahead of nuisance investigations. Their typical department response to getting caught is: cheat (sociology grade scandal, recruit bling gifts, $ handshakes, etc.), get caught, deny, ‘internal investigation’ while paying lawyers and media spinners, lay low and wait for ‘internal investigation’ results, continue the home cookin…..etc etc etc.

Quoting MikeP… “First, the school to be investigated must receive a Letter of Allegations from the NCAA. Auburn has received no such letter. End of story.”

Since you called me out……Let me just say you are wrong as per usual. First a school receives a letter of inquiry to inform the institution that a formal investigation is underway. This usually come months if not years after the investigation has infact started. A little research into the timeline of the UT, USCe, USCw and OSU cases will help you there. After enough evidence is uncovered a letter of Allegations is then presented to the institution. So Mikep just because the NCAA has not isssued the school the initial letter of inquiry DOES NOT mean it has not started or concluded the investigation. It also doesn’t mean that a letter of inquiry is forthcoming but in my opinion most people outside of the Auburn “family” believe such investigation is ongoing and such letter is forthcoming. I for one would rather beat the barn at full strength… but wont lose any sleep if you get the death penalty. I hope we can get back to talking recruiting…

Tiger, enjoy it while you can because it’s going to turn toxic and everyone outside Auburn knows it. Reports are that Hugh Nall, the ex OC for AU, who was run off by the same Auburn ‘family’ that tried to hire an already employed head coach, is the next singing canary in line after your HBO special exposing the corruption. You guys are like Ray Charles walking across and interstate….oblivious to the 18 wheeler running full gun at 70 mph and headed right at you…..there won’t be time for a scream before the splat.

In both your post about Auburn in this blog, you mention reports. Reports about Auburn being the next target and reports now about Hugh Nall.

Do you have a link to any of these reports because these would be a pretty big deal and I would imagine the media might have run with these by now.

Spoke with their track and field coach a few weeks ago. He says that the two of these kids are fantastic athletes as well as human beings. If you have ever met Eric or his father James, its no wonder. I like the chances of them landing in Knoxville but a lot can happen in 2 years. Regardless, somebody is going to stike gold!

Mike good point… and my bad. Alabama is unfortunately an excellent source of NCAA investigation knowledge. Our past NCAA problems cannot and will not be denied by this poster. As a common fan I just hope we stay clean and are doing everything on the up and up. That’s about all most of us can do because most of the violations involve boosters with more money than I will ever have.

He is ok with over signing and and having kids enroll in January if they know this up front. He is not ok with coaches over signing and not letting the kids know up front wether they will be able to enroll in June or in January or at all.

Holsey was partial to UGA…his favorite team all his life. It was the fact they were the 20th school to contact him that turned him off. He is going to be as good as advertised…nice, respectful young man with his head on straight. I hope he and the Berry twins have great careers at their respective schools…
