Creekside’s Josh Holsey, one of Georgia’s top defensive backs for 2012, said Auburn was second to none after committing to the SEC school on Tuesday.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound cornerback picked Auburn over UGA, LSU and Virginia Tech among his 24 early scholarship offers.
“I just thought it was the right school for me to go to and pursue my future, and do what I want to do in life and be the best person I can be,” Holsey told the AJC. “Auburn is the right place for me to go.”
Who finished runner-up for Holsey? “I really don’t know. I’ve had my mind set on Auburn for a minute so … Auburn was 1-4.”
What about UGA? The Bulldogs were his childhood favorite but the last to offer out of 24 schools. “They were serious contenders. I figured they recruited me too late. I wasn’t able to get over there and talk to the coaches as much as I did at Auburn.”
Holsey said he committed early because he wanted to shift his focus to his senior year of football at Creekside.
Creekside coach Johnny White said Holsey was “the best we’ve had since Eric Berry.” Holsey has 19 career interceptions, including 9 last year as a junior.
