Georgia basketball star Kevin Ware says he’s visiting UGA this weekend, then Louisville

Kevin Ware will visit UGA this weekend and Louisville later this month, his family told the AJC on Sunday night.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Rockdale County High School is ranked as the nation’s No. 56 college basketball prospect by Rivals. He signed with Tennessee in last November’s early period, but was granted a release by the Volunteers following the firing of coach Bruce Pearl. Ware pledged to Central Florida last month, only to de-commit 10 days later after allegations surfaced that Central Florida was assisted by a street agent in recruiting him.

Last week on Twitter, Ware announced his list of schools as — in no order — Kansas State, Kansas, UGA, UCLA and Louisville. He said he’d also consider Central Florida again, explaining in a tweet “depending on what’s going on at ucf once everything cleared up will determine if there on my list.”

UGA Mark Fox did not return phone calls and messages from the AJC on Sunday to confirm Ware’s recruiting trip with the Bulldogs. Fox was likely on the phone with 2012 Union Grove point guard Charles Mann, who was offered by the Bulldogs on Sunday night.

Back to K-Ware: We do know that both Louisville coach Rick Pitino and Fox both made in-home visits with Ware last month before he committed to Central Florida.

Ware has kept a low profile since de-committing from Central Florida. Here are his last comments to the AJC. The following day, Ware’s family confirmed they had read the New York Times article alleging that Central Florida used a convicted felon to recruit Ware and declined comment, other than to text “We appreciate those who have shown support.”

Ware says he intends to visit Louisville sometime after his May 27 graduation from high school.

RELATED: UGA’s Mark Fox and Florida State offered Union Grove High School 2012 point guard Charles Mann (6-5, 193) on Sunday, following an offer from national champion UConn last week. His childhood favorite is Georgia Tech, which is seriously interested but has not offered. (Go here to read more)

Kevin Ware would be nice to get him but he is a little risky much rather have Ryan Harrow though i think are chances with Shaq Goodwin is real good .

Ware will be a great point guard but he will be gone in two years, if he stays that long.

@Remarkable.

I don’t care if Ware is only at UGA a year. As much as I hate it, the more often your players leave early, the more of a powerhouse your basketball program is. It’s the truth.

The more big time players we get, the more big time players are going to come in, the stronger the basketball program gets. recruiting leverage is better…win totals are better…publicity is better.

UGA has signed 5, has room for 1 more. As far as Ryan Harrow vs. Kevin Ware at UGA, if UGA wants them, I think UGA goes after both and hopes to get 1. If they get both (unlikely, but you never know), they still may be able to find room for both next year — pending on if the 5 current signees all meet NCAA academic requirements, player transfers, and who knows what else …

@Remarkable, there is NO chance that Kevin Ware is “one-and-done” … lots of potential but very raw. The 2011 Georgia player most likely to reach the NBA the quickest is — Milton PG Shannon Scott (signed with Ohio State)

NO NO NO. We have gotten away from this type of player. Let’s stay away. C’mon CMF. We are better than this gun for hire. He’s not even a gun. Stay away…

If Georgia can get him, okay, take the chance. The team needs immediate impact players this year. Look at espn.com and check out his strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn’t count him as a one and done given the scouting reports.

Didn’t he visit Louisville and UGA before he committed to UCF????? I don’t think the coaching staffs have changed, I don’t think the Xs and Os have changed. Why is it taking so long to choose from a list of schools that you have evaluated for a period of time. There’s an article about this kid every other day and nothing changes.

Updat me when he picks a school.

And the saga continues. I kind of feel bad for this kid. He backed out of going to UT for obvious (Pearl) reasons, then commits to UCF and has a change of heart because of the much publicized stories. He’s had bad luck picking schools.

@ MICHAEL CARVELL; Surely Shannon Scott was named Mr. Georgia Basketball, but he was not the best player in the 2011 class in the state. Everyone knows that award should have went to Caldwell-Pope from Greenville, who is by far the best player. As far as getting to the NBA quicker you have to go with Caldwell-Pope. He could be gone after year one if he puts up the numbers he’s expected to and add a few pounds. As for Scott, I do see him going to the next level but after 3 maybe 4 years.

@jumpin’ jackflash, thanks for your post. Shannon Scott was NOT named Mr. Basketball by the AJC; that honor went to GAC’s Malcolm Brogdon (signed with Virginia).

KCP is good, too. IMHO after watching all of them, Shannon Scott is my pick for the best shot at making it to the NBA out of Georgia’s Class of 2011. He has got the all-around skills, the work ethic, the pedigree (father played at UNC and in NBA), etc. Yes Scott did not look that good in the HS all-star games, but it’s hard to judge anyone in those games. Thanks

Go right up the road to UGA, play against the best in the SEC East, ride the wave of a program on the upswing with a great coaching staff and wonderful facilities, and then, have fun in the NBA!

Easy decision, Kevin!

This Ware reminds me of the “Nuke La Loosh” of the college recruiting world (a two-cent head). Just my opinion, but I think this guy would be a bad egg on the team. Let him go to UL! UGA’s B-Ball team needs unity and people that want to be there. This guy is all about himself. Let him go elsewhere!

What happened to that Gwinnett County UGA bound phenom of about 6 years ago? He went to the NFL and passed on an education and ultimately rode the pines, correct? His HS pal with the thousand tacky tatoos, and was so much trouble while at UGA …………. Mercer? Where did these kids finally end up?

They ain’t worth it. Do all the perinneal Sweet 16 schools sign kids like this? Doubt it.

Gooooooooooooooooo Dogs.

UGA DE Lott looked powerful in the G Day game. He weighs 305. That looks good to me. He ought to be superior than the Griffin kid Mayes, be causae Lott is a fred short frosh. He has that experience AND needed bulk.

OUR D line in 2011 IS MUCH BEEFIER. This will be a key for any success.

I am slowly learning to understand college basketball and try to get information about the game by reading these blogs. Instead they usually turn into pissing contest with people trying to cut down each others schools, or the players on the team.
So far I don’t know a lot about this young man, ecept mostly negative stuff posted on this and other blogs. How old is this kid? Do we really expect a teenager to not need to grow up a little? How many of you negative bloggers were mature adults when you started college. I would think he has a fair amount of pressure on him right now, since his first two choices bombed out for him. If the coach at UGA believes he can work him up and he can help the school, I say give him a chance if he wants to come to UGA.
